Chapter Thirty-Six: As Old As You

Lin Xiaoxue subconsciously held her breath, thinking that the next second Lin Taozi would be just like her, unable to move or make a sound because of Xiao An.

"Okay, these are all for you."

Xiao An's gentle and clear voice came from inside the room. He didn't actually lay a hand on Taozi. Could it be because his second sister was there?

That must be it. Second Sister is strong, and that scoundrel Xiao An probably couldn't beat her, so she gave in. Lin Xiaoxue really wanted to go in and take a look, but as soon as she reached the door, she met Xiao An's cold gaze and chickened out.

Lin Xiaoxue hurriedly turned around and ran back to her room, her heart still pounding.

When Lin Chacha returned, she told her about the strange things Xiao An had done.

"Second sister, you must be careful. Xiao An is really a bad person. When eldest sister comes back, let's get rid of him."

Lin Chacha didn't believe her and thought she was deliberately making trouble for Xiao An, so she was so angry that she ignored Lin Xiaoxue all night.

In S City, Lin Xiazhu was picking out clothes at the clothing market while also haggling with people, and Yan Xin followed behind her to learn.

"...This dress is too expensive and not suitable for our rural area. This style is too flashy. This color is too white and will get dirty easily. This one will tear as soon as you pull it..."

Lin Xiazhu was very picky, saying this wasn't good enough and that she didn't want it. The wholesaler's face was already very unpleasant. The boss was a tall, slender middle-aged woman with a long face and heavy makeup.

He had a loud voice, and when he spoke, it sounded like he was arguing with someone. "Are you going to buy it or not? If you're not going to buy it, don't touch it. You don't look like business people. Get out of here and don't interfere with my business."

Lin Xiazhu was embarrassed. She was so focused on talking to Yan Xin that she hadn't controlled her volume and let the landlady hear her. She had been careless.

On someone else's turf, one should naturally lower their stance. When traveling, it's better to avoid trouble. Lin Xiazhu quickly smiled apologetically, "Boss lady, please calm down. I didn't mean to criticize your clothes, I just..."

"You've said all that, and you're still complaining? Do you think everyone else is stupid? Don't try to fool me. I heard every single word you said. How can you be so talkative at such a young age? You can't say a single nice thing."

The shop owner was formidable; she didn't swear at all, but she wasn't going to let them off so easily. She gave the two of them a thorough dressing-down, finally getting revenge for her clothes business.

"Why are you dragging me into this? I didn't say anything, what does it have to do with me?" Yan Xin was so angry that she couldn't find a chance to interject.

"Tsk, how dare you try to deny it? This child isn't yours?" The proprietress pushed Lin Xiazhu in front of her, speaking with conviction. "You still want to argue? This child looks just like you. I think her loose tongue is inherited from you, her mother."

That means she has poor upbringing.

Yan Xin was in a difficult situation and could not explain herself. She was not Lin Xiazhu's mother, and she did not raise this child. She had nothing to do with her.

But such words can only be shouted in one's heart; they have no persuasive power when spoken aloud. Yan Xin sulked with a sour face.

Lin Xiazhu didn't say anything more. After the proprietress finished venting, she said ingratiatingly, "We're here to buy goods. We've already picked out a few styles. Please check the goods, and we'll settle the bill right away."

But the proprietress was too strong-willed. She pointed to the door with a domineering gesture and said, "Get out! With your poor and shabby appearance, I'm not willing to sell you any goods."

This store is quite large, and there are three female sales clerks inside. The sales clerks not only help customers pack their clothes, but also try on various styles of clothes for customers to see. They will probably also be helping to chase customers away now.

"Let's go, let's go look at other places." Lin Xiazhu quickly pulled Yan Xin away.

Yan Xin angrily shook off her hand, "It's all your fault, you offend people with every word you say. How did you manage to live to be so old? Did Brother Zisong really like someone like you?" She was referring to her past life.

"Shut up, it was a mistake just now, there won't be a next time," Lin Xiazhu said a little guilty, but, "Don't mention Chen Zisong in front of me again next time. You're out of your mind. I've said it hundreds of times, I have nothing to do with him."

Yan Xin also felt it was all so pointless. She had suffered so much for a man, and she dared not think about it any further.

"You can get goods in the county town, why do you have to come all the way to the city? You were just wandering around here last night, why don't you hurry up and buy some clothes wholesale? You've been running around for so long and you're still empty-handed, what exactly are you trying to do?"

I always felt that Lin Xiazhu had deliberately come to the city for some ulterior motive.

"I've already chosen the styles of the clothes, I'll just buy some wholesale later, I have something else to do." She finally admitted.

"What's wrong?" Yan Xin lowered her voice subconsciously, sensing that what Lin Xiazhu was talking about seemed quite important.

"Did you notice the saleswoman in that clothing store who was about your age, almost thirty?" Lin Xiazhu asked absentmindedly.

Yan Xin took a few deep breaths to suppress the anger that was about to erupt. She was only twenty-three years old in real life. Did they dare not put Zhao Xiaolian's age on her?

Not hearing her response, Lin Xiazhu didn't mind and continued talking, "She has a daughter who is three years older than me. It's almost lunchtime, and she'll be coming over soon to bring her mother food."

"...What the hell? I don't understand." Yan Xin frowned and looked at Lin Xiazhu intently.

Lin Xiazhu ignored her and suddenly pointed to a spot not far away, "Look, they're here."

My gaze shifted in the direction she pointed, and sure enough, I saw a girl of about ten years old carrying a bag of lunchboxes, walking briskly towards the clothing market.

The little girl was quite tall, with delicate features and a slightly upturned mouth; she was a very endearing girl.
