By the time Lin Xiazhu and her sister carried the wild boar back to the wooden house, it was already evening. Lin Xiaoxue and Lin Taozi were pretending to start a fire in front of the stove.
Lin Xiaoxue's face was covered in soot, and Lin Taozi was covered in ash from head to toe. The former was holding a gourd ladle and was about to pour water into the pot, but because she was small and weak, she almost fell into the wooden tub.
"Third Sister, why did you start a fire?" Lin Xiazhu threw the wild boar on the ground and walked over.
Lin Xiaoxue is only four years old. At most, she helps watch the firewood and add firewood to the stove. Her family would never let her cook on her own.
"Big sister, Mom said she's not feeling well, so she asked my sister and me to cook." Lin Xiaoxue blinked, her little face showing a look of confusion.
At this moment, Lin Chacha dragged the little wild boars back. She was panting heavily, walked to the big wooden tub, scooped up a ladle of water, and gulped it down.
Lin Xiazhu frowned slightly. People in the countryside aren't so particular and often drink raw water directly. She used to be one of them, but later she learned that it's better to boil the water before drinking it, otherwise it's easy to get sick from drinking raw water because there are a lot of bacteria.
However, the younger sisters will have to get used to this habit gradually; it won't change overnight.
Hearing the noise, Yan Xin, who was sleeping on the bed in the wooden house, quickly ran out. "You're back! Hurry up and cook something. I didn't eat lunch. Your two younger sisters even have trouble starting a fire. I'm starving."
The food Lin Xiazhu left behind in the morning had gone cold. Yan Xin didn't know how to heat the food, and besides, the food was really not to her liking, so she couldn't eat it.
She didn't eat, and Lin Xiaoxue and Lin Taozi had no objection at all. In the late afternoon, they got hungry from playing and finished the rest of the food.
Yan Xin's stomach ached from hunger, so she ordered her two children to cook for her. The two children dared not disobey their mother, so they tried their best to start a fire. It took them half an hour to get the fire going, and then the older sisters came back.
Lin Xiazhu glared at Yan Xin with an unfriendly expression, then pulled her into the wooden house and closed the door, speaking in a low voice:
"Yan Xin, I'm warning you, don't order my sister around doing chores anymore. You're a twenty-something-year-old, and you expect two kids who're only six years old combined to cook for you? Are you a useless person?"
Yan Xin blushed, feeling a little guilty. She hadn't thought much about it at the time, just that the two children were more capable than her. In her previous life, she was a rich young lady who was used to ordering others around. She really didn't mean to make things difficult for the two children.
She felt guilty, but how could she, who was always so proud, admit her mistake in front of Lin Xiazhu? She said angrily, "It's just starting a fire and cooking, it's not a big deal, why are you scolding me?"
After saying that, she started crying again, looking as if someone had abused her.
"Ha, even now, you still can't change your foul mouth. I think you deserve it." If Yan Xin hadn't deliberately gone to Lin Xiazhu to provoke and curse her, she wouldn't have cursed her before she died, and then, by a twist of fate, Yan Xin transmigrated into her mother's body.
"Lin Xiazhu, you..." Yan Xin was furious and was about to throw a tantrum.
"Shut up, or I won't feed you if you keep yelling." Lin Xiazhu interrupted her sharply, then flung open the wooden door and went out.
Yan Xin was sobbing uncontrollably. She was still angry and wanted to argue with Lin Xiazhu. After standing there for a while, she chased after her. What she saw before her left her stunned.
My heart was filled with turmoil and fear.
Lin Xiazhu took an axe, closed her eyes, and skillfully cleaned up a small wild boar before handing it to Lin Chacha.
"Second sister, clean this little wild boar up, and I'll go find some firewood."
"Okay!" Lin Chacha happily took the piglet and turned to run towards the stream next to the wooden house.
Lin Xiazhu went back into the wooden house and found some thick ropes. She tied the sow tightly and also secured her snout. After doing this, she buried the things she had cleared outside the wooden house.
To prevent the smell of blood from attracting other wild animals.
After Lin Chacha cleaned up the piglets, Lin Xiazhu returned with two large bundles of firewood, along with two pheasants.
"Wow! Big sister, you're amazing! How did you catch these two pheasants?" Lin Chacha's mouth was watering. Her parents had lived in these mountains for over a year and had never caught a pheasant, only occasionally a wild rabbit.
"Have you shaved the wild boar's hair off yet? If you're done, roast it. Use the pheasant to make soup." Lin Xiazhu smiled. She hadn't expected to be so lucky, stumbling upon a few pheasants while gathering firewood.
Well, because she was so fast and strong, she rushed up and knocked the pheasants unconscious with a single punch.
Of course, it's possible that it was killed, but it doesn't matter, we're in for a treat tonight.
Yan Xin cried for a long time, until she felt it was pointless. She turned around angrily and went back to the wooden house. When she saw the package on the ground, she kicked it hard as if to vent her anger.
Wait a minute, Lin Xiazhu took a bag with her when she went out today, but when she came back, she mysteriously hid the bag in another wooden house. Did she find something good?
While Lin Xiazhu went to the stream to deal with the pheasant, Yan Xin sneaked to the neighboring cabin and successfully found the bag that Lin Xiazhu had hidden...
Because they were making chicken soup, they ate dinner a little later. Lin Xiazhu and her sisters sat in the small courtyard outside, with a round log with a diameter of one meter in the middle, which served as a table with food on it.
They had already started eating. Lin Xiazhu and her third and fourth sisters ate without any pressure. Only Lin Chacha took a sip of soup and put down her bowl. "Sister, Mom hasn't eaten yet. I'll take it to her."
"Let her come out to eat by herself. Cha Cha isn't a child; she'll come out to eat when she's hungry. If you keep bringing her food, she won't want to come out, and if she doesn't come out, she'll get sick from being cooped up, and then she'll really develop mental problems."
