Chapter 3: Old Dong changes his mind again
When Xu Heye woke up again, she found herself in the hospital. She sat up and looked greedily at Dong Taohua in the next bed.
It had been so long since she had seen her mother. Even though she knew it was just a dream, she was willing to indulge in it.
The thing Xu Heye regretted most in her life was that she called her mother Dong Taohua in April 1989 when her grandfather Lao Dong refused to take her in.
That time, Dong Taohua also rushed over in a hurry, but no matter how much she begged, Old Dong refused to agree to take her in. In her grief and anger, Dong Taohua resolutely banged her head against the wall.
At that time, Xu Heye was still a sixteen-year-old girl. She understood nothing and knew nothing. She could only watch Dong Taohua's forehead hit the wall of the Dong family heavily.
Dong Taohua wasn't dead, and she didn't even look abnormal. She had just fainted for a moment, then woke up. The Dong family thought she was lying, threatening to kill herself to force the family to compromise.
But seeing how extreme she was, and fearing that she would fail in her attempt to commit suicide and come up with some new scheme, he finally reluctantly agreed to let her settle down.
The Dong family was relieved, and Dong Taohua hurriedly took her to complete the settlement procedures.
She knew that her daughter might be wronged in the Dong family, so before leaving, she told her with great concern that she should study hard, be patient with small matters, and call her immediately if anything serious happened, and she would come to support her.
However, Dong Taohua failed to fulfill her promise in the end. She died on the train returning home from Hucheng.
Dong Taohua looked fine after the collision, but she had actually suffered a brain hemorrhage. Xu Heye didn't know how she had endured the pain of the hemorrhage. But she endured it for three days, until she had completed all the settlement procedures, and then she left as if nothing had happened.
Xu Heye didn't know what Dong Taohua was thinking when she fell down.
She only knew that after being injured, Dong Taohua still endured the painstaking effort to complete the settlement procedures for her. She hoped that she could take root in this big city and have a good future.
She longed to return to her hometown Hucheng, but ended up collapsing on the way out of Hucheng.
After returning to her hometown to attend Dong Taohua's funeral, Xu Heye returned to this less humane big city.
Before leaving, her father Xu Hui asked her if she wanted to stay, but Xu Heye refused. She was her mother's hope, and Hucheng was her mother's hometown, a place she had longed to return to all her life but had never been able to return to.
From then on, she had been living in Hucheng. Her life in Hucheng was not too good, but not too bad either. It was just like an ordinary person's life, except that she had never dreamed of her mother in her life.
She didn't know what was going on these days, but she kept dreaming about the past.
She dreamed of the situation when she first arrived in Hucheng, the anticipation and satisfaction she felt when she boarded the train to Hucheng, the nervousness she felt when she arrived at Dong's house, and the panic she felt when her grandfather was reluctant to accept her as a household registration after she settled down.
During this period, her grandfather's indifference, her step-grandmother's sarcasm, her uncle's rejection and indifference... all made her, who was only sixteen years old, feel at a loss.
After everyone else had their household registrations completed and their enrollments completed, Xu Heye became even more panicked. Not knowing what to do, she called her mother, who lived thousands of miles away, for help.
Xu Heye tried to stop it countless times, but she could only watch the call being dialed, watched her younger self complain to her mother about the Dong family's indifference, watched her helplessly ask for help, and then watched her mother rush over from afar.
I watched them arguing and quarreling with each other, and then watched my mother make the same decision as last time in grief and anger.
He banged his head against the wall in grief and anger, fighting for his life.
Fortunately, fortunately she stopped her mother this time.
Even if it's just in a dream.
Xu Heye thought with some relief.
When Dong Fuyun came in with a lunch box, he saw his niece sitting on the hospital bed, staring at her elder sister stupidly, not moving at all.
He walked over, patted Xu Heye's shoulder vigorously, and said, "What are you looking at? My eldest sister, your biological mother, don't you recognize her?"
Xu Heye came back to her senses and looked at her uncle, who looked thirty years younger. She felt relieved and said, "It's great that you're here, uncle."
Dong Fuyun was a little puzzled. He stretched out his hands, covered Xu Heye's ears, and shook her head. "Heye, what's wrong with you? Did you break your head?"
Xu Heye felt dizzy and blurry, unable to see clearly. She felt a little strange. Could she feel dizzy even in a dream?
Xu Heye suddenly thought of something. She pried Dong Fuyun's hands apart and pinched the back of his hands hard. She pinched so hard that the back of Dong Fuyun's hands turned purple.
Dong Fuyun screamed and quickly pushed Xu Heye's hand away, then used his intact hand to gently stroke the place where Xu Heye had pinched him.
"Xu Heye, my uncle shouldn't have offended you. Why are you pinching me for no reason?"
Xu Heye looked at Dong Fuyun's grinning face and jumping up and down, but she laughed, "Uncle, does your hand hurt?"
Dong Fuyun rolled his eyes. "What do you think? If it hurts, you can tell by pinching yourself."
Dong Fuyun had only said it casually, but Xu Heye took it seriously. "You're right," she said, pinching herself hard.
A sharp pain instantly spread from the back of her hand to her nerves, and Xu Heye suddenly laughed out loud, "Hahaha, this is not a dream, not a dream. Uncle, I feel pain, I feel pain, haha."
Dong Fuyun was so frightened that he walked over to Xu Heye, gently pinched her cheek, and said, "Heye, Xu Heye, what's wrong with you? You're smiling even when you're in pain. Are you stupid?"
Xu Heye came back to her senses and glared at Dong Fuyun: "You are the stupid one! I'm just happy."
She looked at Dong Taohua in the next bed, opened the quilt, jumped off the bed barefoot, and walked to Dong Taohua's side. Xu Heye looked at her mother, tentatively reached out her hand, reached into the quilt and touched Dong Taohua's hand.
Warm and rough, it's a mother's hand.
Xu Heye's tears instantly fell.
She thought about how she had thrown her mother to the ground while holding her, and was afraid that she might have some sequelae. She looked at Dong Fuyun hurriedly, "Uncle, how is my mother? Is she hurt?"
Dong Fuyun said, "It's okay, your mother is fine, there's nothing serious wrong with her."
"Really?"
Dong Fuyun said, "Really. The filming has been completed, there are no problems at all."
Xu Heye took the X-ray from the bedside and looked at it, especially the brain, and there was indeed no problem.
She breathed a sigh of relief, but also a little bit in disbelief, "If everything is fine, then why hasn't she woken up yet? I'm already awake."
Dong Fuyun said, "Your mother hasn't woken up because she rushed here so anxiously and didn't get enough rest these past few days. She's catching up on some sleep now. If you don't believe me, come closer and listen to see if she's snoring."
Xu Heye calmed down and indeed heard a light snoring sound.
She breathed a sigh of relief, joy gradually filling her heart.
So is it time for her to be reborn?
Just like those novels, she successfully changed her mother's fate.
Dong Taohua slept for a while and finally woke up in the evening. The three of them returned to the Dong family. Old Dong finally agreed to let Xu Heye live in this house. No one else dared to refute him.
The mother and daughter breathed a sigh of relief.
However, when he went to the police station to handle the settlement procedures the next day, Lao Dong changed his mind again and made a request - he could settle down, but he could not live with them, and he had to sign an agreement, otherwise Lao Dong would not agree to settle down.
