Chapter 33 Self-study Study hard together

Kong Xiaoyue shook the plastic bag in her hand. "Xu Heye, I bought a lot of breakfast. Come and have some. There are glutinous rice balls, steamed dumplings, fried dough sticks, steamed buns, fried cakes, flower rolls, and tea eggs. There's also soy milk, milk, and orange juice."

Xu Heye: “…”

"It's just for the two of us, why are you buying so much?" If they buy one of each item, they probably won't be able to finish them both.

Kong Xiaoyue: "I want to eat them all! So I bought them all. If we can't finish them for breakfast, we can save them for afternoon tea."

"That's fine." Xu Heye was somewhat helpless. How could she not realize that Kong Xiaoyue's timid and shy face hid such a passionate heart?

Xu Heye ate an egg, two steamed dumplings, and half a fried dough stick. Kong Xiaoyue was full after a fried cake, a steamed dumpling, and a cup of soy milk.

Sure enough, there are still a lot left.

After breakfast, Xu Heye took a red plastic basin and dirty clothes and went to the well to wash clothes.

Kong Xiaoyue took her Walkman and followed him. Fearing that her uncle's family would find out that she had bought another Walkman, Kong Xiaoyue didn't dare to use it at her uncle's house, and only dared to use it at Xu Heye's house.

The two of them listened to music, washed clothes and practiced Hucheng dialect.

It was quite fast when two people washed together. After half an hour, all the thick clothes plus Xu Heye's change of clothes from last night were washed.

After hanging the clothes on the clothesline in the yard, the two of them began to review. The weather was beautiful and sunny, so they simply carried the table and chairs outside and reviewed in the shade of the trees in the yard.

The subjects they reviewed were still the same as yesterday, Xu Heye reviewed mathematics and Kong Xiaoyue studied English.

There is really not much grammar in English in the first semester of the first year of junior high school. Apart from the verb be, the pronouns this, that and it, and the usage of their plural forms these and those, possessive nouns, the There be sentence pattern and the usage of the word like, there is nothing worth discussing in detail.

The key is memorization. You have to memorize the twenty-six letters, various new words, and write them out. Even those recurring sentence patterns have to be memorized and written out.

In addition, you should read more, master the correct pronunciation, and develop a sense of English.

Kong Xiaoyue listened to the tape, reading along and transcribing. After she finished learning the new content of a chapter, she asked Xu Heye to help her with the dictation. If she got it right, she would move on to the next chapter. If she didn't, she would revisit the unfamiliar or unsure parts to deepen her memory.

"Kong Xiaoyue, you can buy a small notebook. It doesn't have to be very big. Palm-sized, the kind that can be carried around in your coat pocket is best.

This little notebook is used to record those knowledge points that you are unfamiliar with or have not mastered well, whether it is English words, sentence patterns, Chinese ancient poems, easily confused front and back nasal sounds, words, wrong math problems, physics formulas, etc.

Carry this little notebook with you everywhere you go. You can take it out and look at it in the morning and evening, after physical education class, or even when you go to the bathroom. Use this small time to review and consolidate those knowledge points that you have always struggled to grasp.

Xu Heye had used this same energy to learn English in her previous life. She needed to concentrate on her work and not be distracted, so she used every moment after work to study.

I memorized vocabulary words while eating, listened to listening exercises while using the restroom, and on the way back to the dorm, the dim streetlights made it difficult to read, so I mentally reviewed all the new knowledge points I'd learned, then filled in any gaps back at the dorm. During holidays, I went to the English corner in Hucheng to practice speaking with foreigners.

At first, she stumbled, using both sign language and body language to understand what the other person meant. Gradually, she was able to fully express herself and understand what the other person wanted. Later, she became adept at chatting with foreigners about various topics and gossip.

Later, she found an opportunity to recommend herself to the manager of the export department, and then successfully became an English-speaking salesperson in the export department from an ordinary screw worker in the workshop.

But she had not saved enough money to buy a house and bring her father back to Hucheng, so she returned to the present.

Xu Heye shook her head. The past could not be retrieved, but the advanced learning methods she learned at that time would benefit her for the rest of her life.

Kong Xiaoyue was so moved that her eyes were almost filled with tears.

"Xu Heye, thank you."

Not only did he lend her a place to study and teach her Hucheng dialect, he also taught her such a precious learning method.

Kong Xiaoyue was also an excellent student at school, so she knew how important a good study method was. Many students kept their own methods to themselves, let alone teach them to others.

"You're welcome." She just looked at Kong Xiaoyue, as if she was seeing herself in her previous life, who had just arrived, felt out of place, and was inferior and cowardly.

Besides, Xu Heye’s method is a good one, but the key is whether he can stick to it to the end.

The final result is always in Kong Xiaoyue's own hands.

After studying for two hours, the two began to make lunch.

There was still half a cabbage and a head of lettuce left over from yesterday. She stir-fried the cabbage with vegetables, and Xu Heye cut up some bacon to stir-fry with the lettuce.

Two dishes and a pot of rice filled their stomachs. After washing the pots and bowls, they went back to the house to take a nap.

I continued studying in the afternoon for 40 minutes. When I got tired, I got up to listen to music, chat about gossip, and learn Hucheng dialect with Kong Xiaoyue. When I was hungry, I ate the unfinished breakfast that Kong Xiaoyue brought me in the morning.

Both of them were serious and focused, and soon the afternoon passed by studying, listening to music, chatting about gossip, and having afternoon tea.

At around five o'clock, Xu Heye sent Kong Xiaoyue to the bus. She returned to collect the dried clothes, had dinner with her uncle, washed up, studied, and went to bed. Then it was time to go to school again.

After morning reading, before the first class, the head teacher Chen Yuru brought a new student to the class.

Their class 2 and 3 has a new transfer student from another place.
