Chapter 172 Turning Point

"What are you laughing at! Students in the back, if you're not going to attend class, go stand outside!"

Hearing the noise from the podium, the teacher looked over in displeasure, and the student who couldn't help but laugh pointed at Chen Zhong.

"It wasn't me, it was him. He disrupted class discipline first."

This man was quite clever. He knew that Jiang Wanqing had been harassed so many times and always managed to escape unscathed, so he couldn't afford to offend her. He obediently pushed Chen Zhong out, which angered Chen Zhong so much that he picked up his things and left.

"I'm not going to this class! It's a useless class!"

"If you're not going to do it, then get out! Get as far away as possible! Don't you know your own limitations!"

Chen Zhong had completely gone too far, which angered the teacher, who immediately flew into a rage and warned the remaining students to behave themselves.

He thinks he can just blow a breath and fly away? That's that idiot's old habit. A successful research project? Going abroad? Dream on!

Jiang Wanqing curled her lips indifferently. Someone would be courting death; she didn't need to interfere.

After one class ended, Huanren had to rush to the next class, but Jiang Wanqing didn't go; she had to go to Professor Xue's office.

The office was quiet as usual, but what was different was that people usually passed by the door from time to time and peeked inside, but not today. So when Jiang Wanqing arrived at the door, Professor Xue heard footsteps and looked up.

Upon seeing her, a ripple appeared on his calm face, and he waved to her.

"Come in and sit down. I just made some tea. Keep me company and let's chat."

She smiled apologetically, went inside, closed the door, and immediately apologized.

"I'm sorry, Professor Xue, for causing you trouble. I heard that the latest research project was taken over by Professor Huang..."

Professor Xue waved his hand: "Let's not talk about that. If he has the ability, let him take it. As long as the results can be applied to society, that's fine. If he can't do it, what's mine will eventually come back to me. I'm already so old, why should I compete with them? On the other hand, you've been entangled in miscellaneous matters all this time. Have you neglected your studies?"

"No, don't worry, all the knowledge is here." Jiang Wanqing tapped her head, then took out a notebook from her crossbody bag: "Look, this is my latest insight."

Her eyes flickered slightly as she handed the notebook to Professor Xue. He didn't think anything of it and took it, intending to just glance at it casually, since he trusted her quite a bit.

Who knew that once you finished reading it, you couldn't take your eyes off it? The knowledge points were secondary; it was the ideas that were truly eye-opening!

Professor Xue immediately picked up his reading glasses from the table, put them on, and without saying a word, turned the pages one by one. The office was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

She sat down, picked up her teacup, took a couple of sips, and waited quietly.

About fifteen minutes later, Professor Xue excitedly slapped his thigh several times.

"Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Hahaha..." He closed the notebook but showed no intention of returning it, smiling as he looked at her: "No wonder that factory manager insisted on tying you to his factory. With your brain, I'd like to see what's inside. Look at this notebook... If you're not in a hurry to take it, leave it for me to look at for a few more days?"

"Of course, no problem, you can take it."

"Great! We were just talking about research topics, but with this treasure of yours, who cares about that old stuff!"

Professor Xue stroked his short beard, his expression a mixture of joy and admiration. Jiang Wanqing noticed this but didn't say much, otherwise she really wouldn't know how to explain the origin of these thoughts.

"Professor, well... if there's nothing else, I'll head back now. Please feel free to call me if you need any further guidance."

"Alright, alright, go ahead."

He was completely absorbed in the notebook, not even looking up, and simply waved her off to do her own thing.

She left relaxed and spent several hours in the lab, not leaving until the bell rang to signal the end of get out of class that day.

Cheng Ran was waiting outside more punctually than a bus. Jiang Wanqing walked over and naturally handed him her bag.

"Just started working again, aren't you busy?"

He grunted and said, "Perhaps the higher-ups wronged me and felt ashamed, so they've been very kind to me lately."

He spoke in a half-joking manner, making Jiang Wanqing unsure whether he was telling the truth or not, so she gently patted him.

"Seriously."

"Okay, it's true that I haven't been able to reunite with my family yet, so they specially let me go back for a reunion dinner today."

He looked into her eyes as he said this and took her hand.

"My parents said they want to thank you, and... apologize to you for what happened in the past. Are you going?"

Her eyelashes fluttered as she thanked and apologized, sounding surprisingly sincere. It really does prove the old saying: "You can't teach someone everything, but you can learn something after just one lesson."

With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, Cheng Ran might not be as free as she is now. Since things have come to this point, she has no reason not to go.

"Go ahead, you don't have to cook for yourself, why not go?"

"Okay, let's go."

His eyes seemed to relax, and he tightened his grip on her hand. Just then, the bus arrived at the station.

Huada University wasn't close to Cheng's house, so taking the bus would be more convenient. The two of them got on the bus.

After a bumpy ride, they got off at the station near the Cheng family's house and walked the rest of the way.

The recent events involving the Cheng family have spread throughout the area, to the point that people can't help but take a second look when they see Cheng Ran, and some even greet him warmly.

"Comrade Cheng, you're home today?"

"Um."

"It's good that you're back. Your parents have had a tough time these past few days."

"Um."

He simply responded, a distant smile occasionally creeping onto his face.

Even as others passed by them, they couldn't help but turn back for a second look.

"See that? That's Cheng's wife. I heard she's from the countryside, but she's really capable."

"I've heard about her. She's a top student from Huada University, single-handedly carrying the weight of the world. She's attracted a lot of criticism, but she's also quite capable of solving problems. I really don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that the Cheng family married such a daughter-in-law."

"If you ask me, it's always better to marry a smart woman than a fool."

"That's true..."

As they talked, they gradually increased the distance between them.

Jiang Wanqing wasn't deaf, so she naturally heard what he said. She just blinked and let it go.

"Don't worry about it, we don't come here often anyway," Cheng Ran comforted her, afraid she would be unhappy.

"They're praising me, didn't you realize?"

She playfully traced two lines on his palm with her fingertips, and Cheng Ran smiled indulgently and nodded.

"You're right, you're so smart, you deserve to be praised."

The two laughed in perfect unison, and soon they arrived at the Cheng family's door.

Unlike their first visit to the Cheng family, this time Cheng's parents were waiting at the door. They were very welcoming and had been looking forward to their children's return.

"You're finally back! Come in and sit down. Wanqing just finished class, you must be tired. Have some fruit first, dinner will be served soon. I specially asked Auntie to make your favorite dishes, so be sure to eat a lot today."

This time, Cheng's mother didn't put on any airs and treated her like her own daughter, which made Jiang Wanqing a little flustered. She could only nod and respond haphazardly.
