Chapter 255 Still Thinking of Her

"Father..."

He called out, his eyes flickered, and he gave a casual explanation.

"I came out for some fresh air."

"Is it an unfamiliar environment?" Amei's father, wearing a patched coat, walked over and looked at Jiang Wanqing warily.

"Comrade Wanqing, what about you?"

Are you questioning me or...?

She didn't answer, but raised an eyebrow and threw the question back at him. She seemed to have discovered that the old man would become extremely agitated whenever it came to A-Ye.

"I wouldn't dare, I'm just afraid my Ah Ye will scare you. After all, you're from the Beijing area, and you're a woman, so you're quite delicate. If there's nothing else, I'll take Ah Ye back to her room to sleep."

With a cold, dark expression, A-mei's father pulled her away. A few steps later, A-ye turned back to look at Jiang Wanqing, his eyes filled with unfamiliarity and complex emotions.

After returning to his room, his father gave him a severe scolding.

“What did I tell you when we came down the mountain? Stay away from those city people. We can't afford to take responsibility if you get hurt. After you see the doctor, I'll have my sister take you back to the mountains as soon as possible. Once I've earned some money from work, I'll bring you back to help support the family. Ah Ye, do you understand what I'm saying?”

"I understand."

He gave whatever answer his father wanted, without arguing with him. After a few perfunctory replies, the room fell silent.

Lying back down on the bed, A-Ye put his hands behind his head, opened his eyes, and kept hearing Jiang Wanqing's words in his mind.

And then there was her clean and beautiful face, her slender and soft fingers, her parted red lips…

For the first time, A-Ye felt desire for a woman and even wanted to take the initiative to get close to her!

That night was destined to be difficult. When he woke up the next day, his sister was waiting for him at the door. She noticed that he had dark circles under his eyes and asked him about it with concern.

“Brother, Father said you’re not used to the environment here, and it’s true. He asked me to come and keep you company. Come on, I’ll take you to get something to eat.” The younger sister’s eyes were bright as she reached out to pull him.

He dodged as usual, avoiding her touch. Her hand missed its mark, and a hint of sadness flashed in her eyes.

"Brother, it's been two years, are you still so resistant to me? What have I done wrong to you? Tell me, and I'll change."

She was on the verge of tears as she spoke. This morning, her father told her to be careful about the distance between Ah Ye and Jiang Wanqing, as the two of them were laughing and talking close to each other in the corridor late last night.

But they've only just met, so why is A-Ye's relationship with Jiang Wanqing going to bypass hers?

"You're not bad, I just don't like being touched by others."

"Then why did you let Sister Wanqing touch you?" she asked without thinking.

Aye frowned, didn't answer the question, and walked around her.

Seeing his reaction, Amei already knew that what her father had told her this morning was true. If she didn't hurry, the family would be separated, and she didn't want that!

"Ah Ye! Wait for me!"

Actually, there wasn't much improvement in the area, nor was there any beautiful scenery. The dust was flying everywhere and blinding. As we walked, we arrived at a construction site.

Jiang Wanqing, wearing a safety helmet, was supervising the construction along with Huan Ren and Hong Xing.

The factory is currently under construction, and at this rate, it will be officially built soon.

Looking at Jiang Wanqing, who was commanding so freely among the men, Amei's eyes held a hint of envy and an almost imperceptible jealousy.

“I see they are hiring a lot of people. We don’t necessarily need to earn this money. Ah Ye, let’s go home with Dad. Isn’t it good for our family to live in the village?”

"I want to get treatment."

His first statement of his own idea was, in effect, a rejection of her suggestion.

Ever since meeting Jiang Wanqing, his desire to regain his memories has grown stronger. He wants to know if he is the person she described, what kind of person he was before he lost his memory, where he lived, and what his name was.

He thanked his sister and father for saving his life and taking him in, but he didn't want to stay there forever, even though he remembered nothing.

"Treatment... Yes, we'll definitely treat you, but we also need to prepare for the worst, in case..."

As they were talking, Jiang Wanqing and the others turned around.

"Sister-in-law, Brother Cheng is here. Do you think he might have remembered something?"

Hong Xing leaned closer; in his eyes, Cheng Ran today was somewhat different from yesterday.

"I don't know. Let's go take a look."

"good."

Seeing them walk towards A-mei, Huanren quickly followed.

"Aye, let's go back to our room."

Fear lurked within her, and she panicked, trying to pull him away, but he stood rooted to the spot.

"Go ahead and take it back if you want."

She looked at him in disbelief, and in that short time, Jiang Wanqing had already walked up to them.

A-mei was unable to greet people as warmly as before, and her eyes darted away.

"Why are you here? Are you uncomfortable with your accommodations, or is there some other problem?"

"I……"

Just as she was trying to come up with a plausible excuse, Amei didn't know what to say. Just then, her father, who was at work, stopped what he was doing and ran over.

"You silly girl, didn't I tell you to keep an eye on your brother and not let him run around? Why did you end up here?"

“Father, I…” As if she had found a backer, she quickly went over: “I want to see what you are doing.”

"I'm working, you should take your brother back quickly."

He keenly noticed that Aye and Jiang Wanqing were already staring at each other, and a slight displeasure welled up in his heart, so he deliberately raised his voice.

"Comrade Jiang, I'm sorry, my two children are immature and don't know any better. Please let them go back."

“Uncle, what are you saying? Wanqing didn’t stop them from leaving,” Huanren added.

"Yes... I mean I'm worried they'll interfere with our work."

“I don’t know how,” A-Ye replied.

The atmosphere was quiet, with only the background sounds of electric drills and other construction noises. Jiang Wanqing flinched; she really had a feeling of seeing a familiar Cheng Ran...

She took a deep breath: "So what do you want to do? Or is there something you want to tell me?"

"Ah Ye..." Ah Mei tried to tug at his sleeve, but he dodged it precisely.

He stared intently at Jiang Wanqing and replied, "I want to apply for a job."

"What?! No way!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than his father objected, his face immediately darkening.

“You can’t stay and work. I’m the only one earning money in our family! Go back with your sister! Go back!”

"I need to earn money to pay for my medical treatment!"

A dark glint flashed in his eyes; he didn't want to continue living in such a muddle.

“I’ll take care of the treatment; you don’t need to earn money,” the father said, turning to look at Jiang Wanqing.

"Comrade Jiang, my son has had another attack. I'm taking him home to rest. I don't need today's wages. Let's go!"

He had already worked for half a day, yet he preferred to work for free rather than let Cheng Ran stay.

Sensing something was amiss, Jiang Wanqing gave Hong Xing a wink, and he quickly understood. After they had walked some distance, he quietly followed them...

Watching the figures disappear from sight, Jiang Wanqing rubbed her fingers together...
