Father closed the door and stood guard outside.
Inside the room, A-mei looked at the man lying on the bed, her face flushed, not from shyness or fear, but from guilt.
Her hand rested on A-Ye's clothes, trembling as she tried to take them off.
What are you trying to do?!
Suddenly, he opened his eyes, which were bloodshot, and pushed her away forcefully.
"I told you, don't touch me!"
He was still dizzy. Looking around, he realized that he had returned to his home in the mountains without knowing when. He shook his head and stared at the person who had fallen to the ground.
"What...did you do to me?"
My legs felt weak and I felt powerless all over; this was clearly not a normal bodily reaction.
Ah Ye suddenly widened his eyes when he remembered drinking a bottle of something his father had handed him after his treatment yesterday.
"We don't want to hurt you, please don't misunderstand..."
She quickly waved her hand, made a shushing gesture, and pointed outside the door.
“My father is guarding the door, you can’t get out.”
The effects of the drug hadn't worn off yet; leaving at this point was simply impossible.
She met his wary gaze, and her heart felt like it was being cut by a knife. She didn't dare to approach him, and slowly got up from the ground, swallowing her grievances and hot tears.
"I know you don't like me. Don't worry, I'm not so shameless as to force myself on you. Come with me, and I'll let you go."
"Didn't you say..."
Amei shook her head, gestured with her lips, indicating the back window, which led directly to the back mountain. She could help him climb out, creating the illusion that he was still in the room.
"Hurry up, once you're gone, don't come back. Go to the county and find Sister Wanqing." She said as she opened the window, "Although Father and I did something wrong to you, I hope you won't hold it against us for the sake of the fact that we saved you back then, okay?"
Aye paused, realizing that she would have done the same even if he hadn't said anything, since it hadn't caused him any real harm yet, and it would have been considered repayment for saving his life.
"Mm," he replied.
He nimbly jumped out of the window and, taking advantage of the still-dark sky, hurried down the mountain along the path.
...
When Jiang Wanqing and Hong Xing found A-mei's house, it was almost noon. The sun was high in the sky, and insects and birds were chirping.
When the two arrived with their men, A-mei's father was sitting in his own yard. He wasn't surprised to see them.
"Where did you take my Brother Cheng?!"
"I don't have any 'Brother Cheng' here, only my son, A-Ye. You've come to the wrong place!"
Hung Hing spoke with anger and his tone was impolite, so much so that the other party showed no mercy.
“Old comrade, we’re looking for A-Ye. You brought him back, didn’t you? His treatment isn’t over yet. Taking him away from the hospital like this will harm him, you know?”
Jiang Wanqing tried her best to control her emotions and reasoned with the other party in a gentle and polite manner, but the other party did not appreciate it.
"Hmph! I'm his father, how could I harm him! Continuing to hand him over to you would only harm him! I've raised him for two years, I know his health condition well. You don't need to say anything more, just leave! Don't disturb our family's life!"
She clenched her fists, anger rising within her, but considering all the circumstances, she still chose to negotiate.
“Let us see Aye. To be honest, we are his family. Even if he has amnesia, that will not change. It is really unreasonable for you not to let him see us.”
As she spoke, she gave Hung Hing a meaningful look, and her family cooperated seamlessly. Hung Hing immediately led his men into the room.
"What are you doing! Stop right there! Don't touch my things!"
"Squeak..."
A-mei opened her door and looked at them timidly.
"Don't bother looking anymore, A-Ye has already gone down the mountain."
"What?! You let him go?" Her father grabbed her arm and shook it repeatedly.
“He doesn’t like me. You can’t force a relationship. Father, do you really think we can keep him? Let him go. He won’t blame us.”
"You idiot... Sigh!"
Jiang Wanqing breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at A-mei: "Thank you. When the factory starts recruiting female workers, you are welcome to join us. I will give you the best treatment, and this promise will always be valid."
After saying that, she led Hongxing down the mountain. As long as Aye went to the county, they would be able to find him.
However, things don't always go as planned. On the way down the mountain, A-Ye was bitten by a snake. When he finally managed to get down the mountain, he collapsed straight down by the roadside.
A man wearing a floral shirt walked by with a blade of grass in his mouth. Seeing someone fall to the ground, he went over and kicked them twice.
"Hey! Dead? Wake up!"
"Do you even know whose territory this is? How dare you die here?"
"You bastard! Die, you son of a bitch..."
The woman in the floral shirt grabbed A-Ye by the collar, turned him over, and gasped when she saw his face.
"How...how is it you...?"
"Oh no, oh no..."
He spat out the foxtail grass, paced anxiously in circles, put his hands on his hips, glanced at A-Ye a few more times, gritted his teeth, picked him up, and carried him away...
They sneaked into a courtyard resembling a traditional courtyard house, pushed open the door, threw the person inside, quickly closed the door, and ran into the house to call for help.
"Brother Leopard! Come out quickly! Something's wrong!"
"What's all the noise about?! I'm trying to sleep!"
Hearing the noise outside, Leopard Brother pulled up his pants and came out, his eyes still blurry and sleepy. But when he saw someone lying on the ground, he immediately woke up.
"You damn Qiangzi! What are you doing bringing back a dead body!" Brother Leopard slapped the man on the head: "Throw him out right now! How unlucky! If the police find out, we're all doomed!"
"No, Brother Leopard, take another look. Doesn't this guy look familiar...?"
Qiangzi turned Aye around, revealing his face. Leopard Brother frowned, looked him over, and then opened his mouth in surprise.
"This...isn't this that soldier?!"
"Yeah, Brother Leopard, I found him on the road and brought him back. He seems to be injured or something, I don't know."
"Hiss..." Brother Leopard kicked Ah Ye.
"That bastard led a group that wiped us out two years ago. What a coincidence, running into him here! Bring on the knife!"
"No, no, no, Brother Leopard... He's in our hands now, so we can decide what to do with him. Let's see what happens when he wakes up, and maybe we can play him to death."
"Hahaha...you little rascal!" Brother Leopard patted him on the shoulder: "You're right. This guy has made us lose money and is wanted by the police. Letting him die like this is too easy for him! You should go and see what's wrong with him."
"Okay!"
Like finding a handy toy, A-Ye was moved around a lot, covered in dust. Soon, Qiangzi noticed the wounds on his body and chuckled.
"This guy got bitten by a snake, serves him right!"
"let me see……"
Leopard pushed him away, leaned over to take a look, and pouted with a hint of regret.
"Hmph, too bad it's not a poisonous snake. Go get me a basin of water!"
Soon, Qiangzi handed him the water, which he then splashed all over Aye.
"Pfft...cough cough..."
