"What's wrong?"
Seeing her serious expression, Molly couldn't help but ask a question.
"Are there other secrets between your two relatives that you haven't told us? You know Qin Meng is stubborn, especially when she sees people with pitiful backgrounds or from the countryside, her sympathy easily overflows. Maybe those two people are manipulating her."
To be honest, what Molly said was not entirely impossible, Jiang Wanqing sighed.
"I'm still worried. Keep an eye on things over there for me during this time, and also Qin Meng... I have a feeling that something's wrong with her lately."
"Okay, I understand."
"Thank you, Molly."
"Don't be so polite with me. I'm going to work. Don't work overtime today. Go home early. No matter how hard you work, you can't really risk your life."
"Um."
After working overtime for several days in a row, Jiang Wanqing was feeling a bit tired, so she decided to leave work at the normal time today.
She drove home from the factory, parked her car, and got out. Seeing a figure at her doorstep, she became cautious.
She was too far away to see the other person's face clearly, but the shadow seemed familiar.
She slowly walked over, and before she could react, she was pulled into a hug.
"open……"
Jiang Wanqing was terrified, thinking she had encountered thugs, and was about to fight back when a familiar scent filled her nostrils and Cheng Ran's voice rang out.
"Don't move, let me hug you, I just got home."
"Cheng Ran?"
She thought she had misheard, turned slightly, and saw that it was indeed him. Her eyes widened.
"You...why did you suddenly come back? Did something happen?"
She thought he had run into an accident during a mission, just like before, which was why he came back. But to her surprise, he hugged her even tighter.
"I'm afraid that if I don't come back, you won't want me anymore."
What kind of nonsensical statement is this? When did she stop wanting him?
She was completely confused, and touched his forehead with her hand. He wasn't sick.
"We've only been apart for a little over half a month, what's wrong with you?"
"Only half a month? As expected, you don't even miss me anymore!"
Cheng Ran pouted, like a child. Actually, he had already decided when he came back that he must question her and find out what was going on between her and Huan Ren, and whether it was really as Qin Mengxin said...
But upon seeing her, all his anger turned into resentment, and he just wanted to hold her tightly and not let go.
"Wanqing, who are you talking to? Are you back? Why aren't you coming inside?"
Hearing the commotion in the courtyard, Xue He shouted at the top of her lungs.
"Mom, it's me. I'll come in right away."
As she answered, she patted Cheng Ran's arm.
"Let go of me first, come home with me, and we'll talk things out. Don't make me worry, and don't make Mom and Dad and Nannan worry."
She felt no guilt whatsoever and was completely at ease, naturally unaware of why he had come back specifically for this purpose.
Her calm demeanor reassured him; he nodded and followed her into the house.
Xue He and Jiang Jianguo were worried and were about to go out to check the situation when they saw their daughter and son-in-law returning hand in hand. The two elders were so surprised that their mouths dropped open.
"Cheng Ran? When did you get back! You were just talking to Wanqing. Look... you didn't even come inside..."
"I'm sorry, Mom and Dad, I scared you."
"It's alright, it's alright. We're overjoyed to have you back. Come in quickly."
When Nannan heard the familiar voice, she ran out on her little legs, saw Cheng Ran, and excitedly jumped into his arms.
"Dad, you're back!"
"Yes, Daddy's back. Nannan has grown taller again."
He acted perfectly normal, and Xue He and Jiang Jianguo couldn't tell what was wrong with him, but Jiang Wanqing knew that he was hiding something.
"Let's eat first. After you eat, go wash up. Were you so focused on the journey that you didn't eat properly or take care of yourself?"
She brushed the dust off his shoulders. It was clear he had come back in a hurry and had something urgent to attend to; otherwise, he wouldn't have neglected to tidy himself up.
"Okay, whatever you say."
At the dinner table, he didn't mention the letter. He felt that this was a matter between him and Jiang Wanqing, and it shouldn't be blown out of proportion. Getting to the bottom of things was the most important thing.
The family chatted and laughed throughout the meal, which lasted for more than half an hour. Nannan still had some schoolwork to do, so Jiang Wanqing tutored her and put her to bed before returning to the master bedroom.
Cheng Ran had already changed her clothes, and the moment she closed the door, he hugged her.
"What's wrong with you? You're acting really strange today."
“I don’t want you to continue having contact with Huanren, not even at work. I’m jealous, I’m scared, and I’m being frank with you.”
His sudden remark startled Jiang Wanqing, who looked up at him seriously.
"Did your mother write to you again and say something?"
Jiang Wanqing was a little angry that this happened again, just like last time.
But at least Cheng Ran didn't contact her last time, yet he suddenly rushed back today, seeking a sense of security from her and even making some demands—something he wouldn't normally do.
"It wasn't my mother who wrote the letter; it was me who was scared, that's all."
“There’s no such thing as fear without a reason.” Jiang Wanqing looked into his eyes. “Tell me the truth, what happened? Huanren and I have nothing going on!”
"Really?"
His question sent a chill down Jiang Wanqing's spine, and she pushed him away.
"What do you mean? You don't believe me? So you came back to catch us cheating? You think I have an improper relationship with him, so you deliberately came back without telling me, wanting to catch us red-handed and prove the rumors you heard?"
Jiang Wanqing's voice was filled with anger. She had never imagined that one day her husband would question her like this, especially about the issue of fidelity in their relationship.
"That's not how it is, Wanqing..."
"Let go!" She shook off his hand. "Today you either explain yourself clearly, or you leave. Since you don't believe me, there's no point in me saying anything more. I have no reason to prove that I didn't do it. That's ridiculous!"
She was already stressed from work, and thought that his return would bring her some comfort, but instead it was a blow. This was the most heartbreaking thing she had ever experienced since they got married!
Cheng Ran sighed. Things were developing in the direction he least wanted to see. He knew Jiang Wanqing's temper all too well; she would never compromise on something baseless. This meant that he could only explain the whole story.
He pulled her hand and sat her down, afraid that she would turn around and leave without listening to his explanation.
"Actually... I received a letter a couple of days ago."
"It really is your mother..."
"This time it really wasn't my mom, it was Qin Meng."
After she finished speaking, the room fell silent, and Jiang Wanqing thought she had misheard.
"Who are you talking about?" she asked, raising her voice involuntarily.
“You heard me right, it’s Qin Meng. She wrote to me saying that you and Huan Ren are entangled, so I… I wanted to come back and see.”
"Where's the letter?" Jiang Wanqing reached out her hand.
Cheng Ran shook his head, looking annoyed.
"I'm sorry, I was so angry at the time, so... I tore up the letter. I thought Qin Meng's relationship with you couldn't possibly be..."
"She couldn't possibly be slandering me?" Jiang Wanqing scoffed, clenching her fists. "I also want to know why she would do such a thing!"
