Chapter Ninety-One Absence Makes the Heart Blossom

"Can't!"

Upon hearing this, Guo Xueyun immediately objected vehemently. If she were allowed to make that call, wouldn't all her efforts be in vain?

Professor Lin's sharp gaze swept over her, then landed on the dean.

"Is this your attitude towards solving problems? Do you think you can bully Wanqing again after I leave?"

"No, no, no... Absolutely not, Professor Lin, you're overthinking it. That's not what Professor Guo meant."

After all, she was a teacher under his jurisdiction, and the two had a special relationship. Naturally, the dean protected Guo Xueyun and kept giving her meaningful glances.

She was quick-witted enough to dart her eyes around and try to cover it up, her expression somewhat embarrassed.

"What I mean is that calling now would disturb Professor Xue's work. We will definitely solve Comrade Wanqing's problem; there's no need to rush."

"Has Professor Guo lost his mind? I am a student personally approved by Professor Xue to be admitted. If he comes back and finds out that I failed to enroll because of what some people call a mistake, will it affect his future work?"

Jiang Wanqing stared intently at Guo Xueyun. To deal with someone as shameless and cunning as her, she couldn't use the conventional approach. She quickly came up with another trump card.

"And there's still one thing that hasn't been resolved. Molly and I got into Huada University, and a comrade named Zheng Yuan donated our tuition and fees. I heard that it also went through Professor Guo's hands, but why is the school still making Molly pay money? Where did that money go? Also... Professor Guo has a lot of power, doesn't he? So many things have traces of your interference. Tsk, why? Or rather, on what basis?"

The room was quiet. Guo Xueyun felt weak in the knees and couldn't answer a single question Jiang Wanqing asked.

"Jiang Wanqing, you..."

Seeing that she couldn't win the argument, she angrily raised her hand and was about to attack the person, but Professor Lin stepped forward to block her.

"I'm still here, and you dare to make a move?"

The dean was in a real bind and quickly interjected, "Don't be impulsive, everyone calm down. It's just calling Professor Xue, come on, call him now!"

He hurriedly dialed the number, and it was answered quickly, but it wasn't Professor Xue.

He glanced at Jiang Wanqing and Professor Lin, wanting to suggest calling later, but their looks didn't give him a chance to wait. He had no choice but to bite the bullet and negotiate with them.

"Please let Professor Xue answer the phone, or have him call back. We'll wait for him."

The dean's words had an effect; the other school immediately took it to heart and called back shortly afterward. After hearing their account of what had happened, Professor Xue was so angry that he burst into a tirade of curses.

Professor Xue, who was usually refined and didn't take things too seriously, wished he could rush back immediately.

"Tell that Guo woman, she's overstepping her bounds! I've turned a blind eye to her before, but I might not do it again!"

Guo Xueyun staggered backward, her eyes filled with panic.

"I...I'll go negotiate. Maybe...maybe the notice wasn't lost, it was just mixed up. Yes...that must be it. I'll go check..."

In her haste, she bumped into the corner of the table and ran out before she could even cry out in pain.

Jiang Wanqing curled her lips indifferently. No matter how powerful Guo Xueyun was, there were people who could keep her in check, and there was more than one. Unless she didn't want to stay in the university circle, offending people like Professor Xue and Professor Lin would not do her any good!

“Professor Lin, look…” The dean rubbed his hands nervously.

His office couldn't accommodate these two big shots, and he was eager to get rid of them as soon as possible; his words already implied that he wanted them to leave.

They didn't linger, and Professor Lin left with Jiang Wanqing's help.

The matter had already had a serious impact before it even escalated. Guo Xueyun was also someone who could weigh the pros and cons, so she immediately returned the notice to Jiang Wanqing after returning home.

She actually lied and said she accidentally forgot it when sending the package; how could she have the nerve to come up with such a lame excuse?

Jiang Wanqing was busy getting her school enrollment processed before the reporting ended; she planned to settle this score slowly...

After completing the enrollment procedures, she should move her luggage from the guesthouse to her dormitory.

She looked down, took out her room key from her bag, and walked to the door of the room where she had stayed for two nights. As soon as she looked up, the key fell to the ground with a clatter.

A pair of large, wheat-colored hands picked it up from the ground and placed it in her palm.

Are you unhappy to see me?

It was Cheng Ran. His sudden appearance surprised Jiang Wanqing, but her expression slowly turned to delight.

"Has the work been handed over properly?"

"Yeah, I came to find you as soon as I finished." He held her hand restrainedly: "It's a pity you won't even give me a hug."

He looked pitiful, like a big dog that had been looking for its master for a long time. Jiang Wanqing's heart softened instantly, and she tiptoed to pat his head.

"But it's tiring to carry you, look at our height difference... ah..."

Before he finished speaking, Jiang Wanqing's feet suddenly left the ground. He picked her up, placed her on the backs of his feet, and held her tightly.

"That way I won't be tired."

He didn't bend over, and she didn't have to strain her neck to reach; the angle was just right.

Jiang Wanqing snuggled against his shoulder, her face full of happiness. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and now she truly felt it. She even felt that one hug was far from enough...

"Cough cough..." She rubbed her face to cover up her embarrassment: "You came at the wrong time. I'm moving to the dorm and can't stay with you."

What happened these past two days?

"No, it's just that the process is a bit slow."

She tugged at the corners of her mouth, smiled, and used her key to open the door and go inside.

Everything inside was neatly arranged; she could simply take it with her.

He didn't press her for details, knowing there were a hundred ways to find out, and that pressing her wasn't the best approach.

"I'll get it."

He was strong and carried all her luggage with both hands to her school dormitory.

Along the way, the two of them attracted a lot of attention, and Jiang Wanqing walked alongside him in a generous manner.

He couldn't go into the girls' dormitory, so he waited downstairs. Jiang Wanqing put down her luggage and came down quickly.

Where are we going now?

They hadn't seen each other for many days, let alone spoken, so much so that she felt a little awkward when communicating with him now and had to find topics to talk about.

He hooked his finger around hers: "Let's go eat."

The report said that moving things had made it quite late, so Jiang Wanqing nodded.

Cheng Ran found a state-run restaurant and ordered several of her favorite dishes.

The two ate and chatted, and because the meat was cut into such large pieces, Jiang Wanqing inevitably got some on her lips.

He naturally reached out to wipe it away for her, and as their bodies touched, he asked a perfectly normal question.

"How have you been these past couple of days?"

"The school is great, I'll adapt easily," she replied.

"I mean, are you getting used to it without me around?"

He placed his hand on hers, his gaze fixed intently on her. Jiang Wanqing was startled and blinked.

"Just kidding. Eat up, and I'll take you somewhere after you finish. Don't go back to the dorm today."
