Chapter Sixty-Three: He Hasn't Returned Yet

Jiang Wanqing covered her head, not having time to listen to Qiao Xuemei's venomous words. She should be thankful that the other party wasn't so malicious as to drug her, otherwise she wouldn't have woken up for a while.

She raised her hand slightly; it felt a little numb. There were more than one needle mark on the back of her hand. She glanced at Qiao Xuemei, snorted, and turned her head away.

"What's wrong with giving you a few more injections? We're such good friends, do you think I'd need a magnifying glass to find your veins?"

Jiang Wanqing's lips twitched. This person seemed to be sick. She knew that her veins were hard to find. In her previous life, she would endure her minor ailments because of this and rarely got injections.

"Thanks."

To be honest, after that injection, she felt much clearer-headed; the medicine must have started to take effect.

"Hmph, I don't need your thanks. Anyway, I'm your sworn enemy!"

After saying this, Qiao Xuemei snorted twice and left with her injection tools.

It wasn't too late outside. She looked around; there was nothing there, and no one had probably come to see her, which meant Cheng Ran probably didn't know yet...

Feeling down, she tried to get up and reach for the water glass on the cabinet. Survival was the most important thing, and she didn't want to die of thirst or hunger instead of falling to her death.

This glass of water must have been left by Qiao Xuemei. As long as she's not a love rival, she still has some medical ethics.

"Wanqing!"

Molly pushed the door open and called out worriedly. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Molly was awake and alright.

"I was so scared! I went to your residential compound to look for you, and someone said you fell and went to the hospital, so I rushed over to check on you. Are you alright? Let me see..."

She rushed forward to check on Jiang Wanqing's health; after their friendship was established, they cared for each other a great deal.

"I'm fine, I just haven't been resting well lately, so I felt dizzy."

She spoke lightly, but Molly was terrified. She sat down next to her and took her hand.

"Which doctor gave this injection? They were going to kill him!"

"It's nothing, why are you more nervous than me? Relax."

Jiang Wanqing was grateful for her concern and patted her hand to reassure her.

When someone came to visit her, the ward became more lively, and Molly started talking non-stop.

"I heard that your Battalion Commander Cheng hasn't been home for many days. He didn't show up when you were taking the exam, and he still hasn't appeared now that you've fallen and gotten injured. What kind of mission is this that we can't even see him!"

"Alright, alright, isn't that how their job is? I'm not angry, so why are you?"

Perhaps Jiang Wanqing hadn't fallen deeply in love yet; she wasn't heartbroken, just a little disappointed.

"My parents were right after all..."

She muttered something to herself and tucked the blanket around Jiang Wanqing.

The two chatted for a short while before Hung Hing arrived, bringing soup and some gifts.

"Sister-in-law, you're awake."

"Hmm, you came alone?"

Hung Hing didn't specifically look at Molly, he just glanced at her, and then answered Jiang Wanqing's question truthfully.

"Yes, the battalion commander couldn't get away, so he asked me to make you some soup and bring you some food. You've been working too hard these days, sister-in-law, you need to nourish yourself properly."

“Anyone can talk a good game,” Molly retorted.

Hung Hing awkwardly twitched his lips, and the atmosphere suddenly became awkwardly quiet.

"Thank you. Please put your things down. You can go ahead and do your work."

"The battalion commander told me to take good care of you. If I just leave you like this, he'll skin me alive when he gets back from his mission."

"What can you take care of? Wanqing, I'll take care of things. If I ask you to work, then go. Stop dawdling."

Molly pushed him away. Now that she had finished her exams, half of the weight on her heart had been lifted, and she could finally take the time to deal with her own problems. As a result, she was no longer so cautious in her words.

The two went outside, and Hung Hing stopped and turned to look at her.

"Comrade Molly, I'm leaving my sister-in-law in your care. I know you don't want to see me, so I'll be going now."

These words startled her. Did she not want to see him? It didn't seem so. She had felt a little happy when she saw him just now, but reason still prevailed.

So her lips moved slightly, but she didn't say anything.

He took a few steps, then suddenly turned around and strode towards her.

"I...I will try my best!"

She was so startled that she took two steps back: "You...you can try your best, what does it have to do with me?"

Her eyes flickered twice, then she looked away, refusing to look at him.

“You’re right, I was wrong again. My efforts are my own business and have nothing to do with anyone else. But I want to try to create an objective condition for us, just like… just like what Battalion Commander Cheng did for his sister-in-law.”

After he finished speaking, he ran away.

"Tell me clearly, when is Cheng Ran coming back to see Wanqing..."

Before she could finish her question, the other person hadn't even left a trace, so she had no choice but to return to the ward with her doubts.

Jiang Wanqing opened the package that Hong Xing had brought. Inside were thick clothes and several books, all of which were her favorite books.

Hung Hing could never possibly know these details...

“When I went back home a couple of days ago, your parents asked you how you were doing. They would be so heartbroken if they knew you fell and got hurt.”

"We can't tell them."

"I know that, but I won't say it. However, the New Year is coming soon. You and Battalion Commander Cheng are newlyweds, so you should go back and celebrate the New Year with your parents properly."

It's only natural for newlyweds to go back to their parents' home for the Chinese New Year. Molly asked casually, but Jiang Wanqing remained silent.

"What about you? Do you want to spend Chinese New Year with me this year?"

"OK!"

Molly was overjoyed to receive Jiang Wanqing's invitation, as she had been feeling lonely all by herself.

The two looked at each other and smiled, their smiles filled with warmth.

Jiang Wanqing wasn't seriously injured and wanted to go back that day, but Qiao Xuemei rejected her discharge application.

Her exact words were: "If you don't stay a few more days, what if you die unexpectedly in the family compound, and Battalion Commander Cheng comes after me?"

She pursed her lips as she said this; she was genuinely afraid of taking responsibility, and probably also worried that something might happen to the patient if they went back home.

Molly whispered in her ear, "Why is this doctor acting so awkwardly? Does she want you to get better, or doesn't she?"

Qiao Xuemei was drawing up medicine when she heard this and turned around, still holding the needle in her hand.

"Don't think I can't hear you, what are you whispering about? Of course I don't want you to be happy, since you stole the man I had my eye on!"

Who talks like that? Molly couldn't help but chuckle, almost bursting out laughing, but she didn't tolerate it and retorted.

"Oh dear, you'd better be careful with your heart. Don't get angry, or who will treat Wanqing?"

"You...you guys really are friends!"

"Thank you for the compliment, Dr. Joe." Molly tilted her head, almost making the other person furious.

When Cheng Ran is not mentioned, Qiao Xuemei is still somewhat adorable. However, given what she has done in the past, Jiang Wanqing still needs to observe her carefully.

“I’m almost fully recovered, so I don’t need this injection. Dr. Gu came by, and I asked him.”

"Fine, I won't fight! Who cares about dealing with you? My good intentions are wasted!"

Qiao Xuemei put down the sedative injection in her hand...
