Jiang Wanqing and Cheng Ran were tidying up their things at home, taking advantage of the good sunshine to move them outside to air them out and get rid of the musty smell, when a hurried figure rushed in from outside.
"Wanqing, I want some water... It's really not easy for me to come all this way, but thankfully Comrade Cheng submitted a report beforehand..."
Molly mumbled as she walked into the house. She could count the number of times she had been here on one hand, yet she seemed to know the place like the back of her hand. Jiang Wanqing and Cheng Ran exchanged a knowing smile.
"I'll go check on her."
"Okay, go ahead, I'll carry the rest, you can take a rest."
"Well... thank you for your hard work. I'll cook you something delicious tonight," Jiang Wanqing said playfully, her hands behind her back and her waist slightly bent.
He was wearing a white tank top, his strong arms carrying a wooden chair, his eyes fixed intently on her.
"Just some delicious food, no other reward, huh?"
"Ahem... You go ahead and move your things. The sun is about to set. I'll go check on Molly first."
She ran away shyly; the sun, which had just risen, was hanging in the sky, its warm rays shining down.
Cheng Ran watched her run away. Counting the days, they had been married for almost a year. Hmm... in some ways, progress was a bit slow.
But you can't rush things; you have to take it slow.
Inside, Molly had already gulped down two glasses of water from her own cup, casually wiping the water from the corner of her mouth.
"The weather is getting hotter and hotter. It's still spring, but it feels like summer is just around the corner."
"You ran too fast. Here, wipe your sweat." Jiang Wanqing handed her a clean towel.
"I just rushed over to give you a heads-up. You have no idea who I ran into while shopping today!"
Molly's face showed both anger and worry, wishing she could send everything she had seen directly into Jiang Wanqing's mind.
"Don't rush, tell me slowly. Who did you run into that's making you so anxious?"
"I ran into Guo Xueyun and Yuan Zhong, that couple!"
After she finished speaking, Jiang Wanqing's movements were slightly slow, but she quickly regained her composure.
"You mean they didn't keep their mouth shut, right?"
"You know that's good! Those rotten apples together can't possibly turn out well! Especially Guo Xueyun, she just shot herself in the foot, she definitely won't let it go. And your shameless cousin, I don't even want to talk about her..."
Molly fanned herself vigorously with her hand, puffing out her cheeks as she exhaled.
"When soldiers come, we'll deal with them; when water comes, we'll dam it. You told me, so I'll definitely pay attention. Don't you trust me?"
"I trust you completely. I'm just worried they might resort to any means necessary."
Jiang Wanqing pulled her down to sit and gently patted her back.
"Calm down and think of the good news: our moisturizing cream is selling even better, so it's a blessing in disguise."
"Yes, I used my bonus money to go shopping with my mom today, but I couldn't prevent her from leading me astray."
She pouted, somewhat unhappy, but since the person in question was her own mother, she couldn't say anything, and could only sigh and feel distressed.
"It's inevitable that there will be some minor daily frictions between mothers and daughters, as long as they are not major problems."
As an outsider in their mother-daughter relationship, Jiang Wanqing could only offer words of comfort. However, Molly took a deep breath and slapped her thigh.
"She took me to meet her blind date without my permission. Can you believe this is just a minor disagreement? It almost made me furious!"
Jiang Wanqing blinked her eyes wide, genuinely surprised that Mo's mother had acted so quickly. She had previously asked her to keep an eye out for good boys, and now she had already approached her herself?
"Auntie probably doesn't mean any harm. How about I go back with you sometime and talk things out with them?"
“I want to, but… like you said, they’re worried about me too, um… I don’t know what to do.”
Jiang Wanqing's eyes flickered, and she thought of what Cheng Ran had told her about the current situation of Hung Hing...
"I wonder how that guy from Hung Hing is doing now, and whether he's putting in any effort."
"he……"
"Yes, Comrade Cheng is at home, I'll go ask him!"
She was determined to do whatever she said, and immediately ran downstairs to ask Cheng Ran. Jiang Wanqing quickly pulled her back, went over and closed the door.
"Don't go yet, he's... he's working. Let's ask him when he has time, okay?"
Molly stared at Jiang Wanqing for a moment, as if realizing something, a trace of worry welled up in the depths of her eyes, but she quickly suppressed it and responded with a smile.
"Alright, as long as Comrade Hung Hing is alive, I'll always know news about him."
Jiang Wanqing felt a lump in her throat and didn't know how to bring up the Hongxing matter. She could only try to gloss over it, hoping that with time, the girl would forget about it.
"I've only heard that Hung Hing often goes on missions, and I'm afraid it's not that easy to find out about his current situation. Anyway, I just need to trust him."
"Yes, you're right. We shouldn't cause him any trouble."
Molly sniffed, pursed her lips, changed the subject herself, took Jiang Wanqing's hand, and spoke earnestly.
"Remember what I just told you? Don't fall for their dirty tricks. Comrade Cheng is still resting, so take him with you when you go out."
"I know, you've taken over my mom's job."
"Hmph, if I were your aunt, I wouldn't just nag you to be careful. You and Comrade Cheng haven't even..."
She mysteriously poked her finger, and Jiang Wanqing quickly pressed it down.
"You found out again?"
"Even if I haven't eaten pork, I've still seen pigs run. Married couples are all different. These are all things my mother told me. I don't want to hear them, but these words are like a curse that sneaks into my brain."
"I think you just want to hear it... hurry up and get rid of all the random thoughts in your head."
"Ah...no! This is my treasure trove of knowledge...hahaha..."
The two joked and played around, managing to pass the time without mentioning Hung Hing again.
A week passed peacefully. That weekend, Jiang Wanqing received a message from Zheng Yuan saying that a batch of equipment had encountered some problems and she needed to take some time to go and check it out.
She hadn't thought much of it at first, since she did have to keep her promise, but then she thought of her husband at home...
Well, she still chose to explain the situation to Cheng Ran. Unsurprisingly, he insisted on going with her, and unable to dissuade her, Jiang Wanqing agreed.
On a sunny weekend, Cheng Ran rode his old-fashioned bicycle with Jiang Wanqing from the residential area to the suburban factory.
It was his first time here, and he couldn't help but marvel at the enormous factory area.
"That guy surnamed Zheng is really capable, huh."
Jiang Wanqing jumped out of the car and lightly bumped his arm.
"Are you envious?"
He reached out and pulled her into his arms, laughing freely and unrestrainedly.
"You're wrong, he's the one who envies me."
She covered her mouth and chuckled, then shook her head: "Don't talk nonsense later. Let's go inside."
She led Cheng Ran toward the factory, but fate had other plans, and they ran into Guo Xueyun before they even went inside.
She recovered quickly and shamelessly went up to greet him.
"Cheng Ran, Comrade Wanqing, what are you doing here?"
