I'm finally free!
Zhao Kun was released from the dark room and saw the light of day again.
Although he hated the regional leader in front of him, he knew that angering him would only mean being locked in a dark room and suffering further torment.
So even if you're cursing in your heart, you still have to say flattering things out loud.
It's just washing underwear and socks, right?
Zhao Kun tolerated it.
Those who achieve great things do not concern themselves with trifles; the hardships they face now are merely the paving the way for future success.
Zhao Kun kept reassuring himself with similar words, accepting his current situation.
"Families from other regions will be coming later. You'll be in charge of washing their clothes, is that alright?"
"No, no, I'll do whatever you say, leader."
Zhao Kun nodded hastily, a forced smile on his face.
"Very good. I hope you have learned your lesson from before and will not cause trouble or do anything that is detrimental to harmony and unity. In fact, you are much happier than others. They have to recruit people, but you don't. You can eat two meals a day just by washing some clothes. You should be grateful."
The regional leaders, high and mighty, spoke as if it were their right.
Zhao Kun felt like a million grass mud horses were galloping through his mind. He was furiously cursing, "I was tricked into coming here, eating rotten vegetable soup with no oil or water, and I'm supposed to be grateful? Who the hell are you trying to fool?"
This place is a den of swindlers. When I get out of here, you'll be the first one I get my hands on.
"Your eyes seem to indicate that you have a problem with it."
"No, no, I was just recalling the scene of my first meeting with you, leader. At that time, I was deeply impressed by your imposing figure and temperament."
Zhao Kun said things against his will to please the other party.
The regional leader stroked his chin, somewhat satisfied with Zhao Kun's flattery, then raised his hand and said, "Go on, I had someone save some food for you, go and eat."
"Thank you, boss."
Zhao Kun bowed in thanks, then turned and left the private room of the regional leader.
He was indeed hungry. Being locked in a dark room and given very little food, he was close to starving, if not ravenously so.
But when Zhao Kun came to the kitchen and saw the leftovers in front of him, his appetite vanished by ninety percent. Flies were swarming around, and cockroaches were crawling everywhere. What made him want to vomit the most was that he saw a black, centipede-like worm crawl out of the bowl.
How the hell are you supposed to eat this?
A bitter taste rose in Zhao Kun's stomach, and he could no longer hold it in and began to gag.
Zhao Kun almost vomited bile. He felt unbearably hungry and his heart was pounding.
But he didn't have the courage to eat the food in the kitchen. It was dirty, and he was afraid of getting infected with viruses or other diseases.
Fortunately, he found half a steamed bun left in his bowl, which had been bitten by someone. But this was no time to worry about that. Something was better than nothing. He quickly swallowed the half bun whole in one gulp.
"A new family member has arrived! Everyone gather together to welcome the new family member."
Zhao Kun choked, his face turning red and his neck thick, because he was so hungry that he ate rather quickly.
Upon hearing that the regional leaders were summoning everyone, Zhao Kun didn't dare to delay and immediately came out of the kitchen and went to the living room to assemble.
Everyone stood around a semicircle, three layers deep.
First, they shouted slogans, and then they arranged a welcoming ceremony.
Zhao Kun was no stranger to this scene; he had experienced a similar one when he moved here before, and this was just a replay of it.
Zhao Kun felt a sense of schadenfreude when new unlucky souls fell into this pit, because he felt that he shouldn't be the only one to suffer this hardship; the more people who came in, the better.
About seven or eight minutes later,
The rarely opened door opened, and the first person to enter was a man in a suit.
Upon seeing a strange man in a suit wearing glasses, Zhao Kun inwardly scoffed, thinking that this outfit was just a facade. He had been fooled because he had mistakenly assumed it was the attire of a successful person, but in reality, it was nothing more than a deceptive tactic.
After two days in the dark room, Zhao Kun understood many things.
He was almost certain that the whole process of how he was tricked into coming here was orchestrated by someone else, all to create an excuse for talking to him in the morning.
"Welcome, welcome, a warm welcome."
The chorus of voices interrupted Zhao Kun's thoughts. It turned out that seven or eight people had entered behind the man in the suit. Anyone not wearing a suit was undoubtedly a victim of a scam.
Zhao Kun glanced at it,
But the next second, his pupils narrowed, and he froze on the spot.
Aren't these Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua?
How did they end up here?
Could it be...?
After a brief moment of surprise, Zhao Kun was immediately filled with anger, because he thought of these two guys who had swindled money from Zhou Ling's family. The two damned swindlers had now ended up in the same situation as him.
Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua didn't notice Zhao Kun in the crowd; instead, they were filled with doubt and confusion as they looked at the environment in front of them.
The company's accommodations are terrible.
Moreover, can a room accommodate a whole bunch of people?
The two were unaware that after being swindled out of their money, they had now truly fallen into a den of wolves.
As the iron gate closed and locked, the two were led to the center of the living room to participate in the newlyweds' welcome ceremony before they even understood what was going on.
Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua discovered that the family members here seemed a bit abnormal.
Moreover, the suit-wearing leader who brought them there ignored them at this moment and entered the room with another person.
"Hey, that guy, he looks kind of familiar..."
Wang Xiuhua tugged at Zhou Dana's arm and spotted a figure in the crowd that seemed familiar.
Zhou Dana was still wondering how there could be an acquaintance here, but when he looked over and saw Zhao Kun's face, he was stunned.
When fellow villagers meet, their eyes well up with tears.
When Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua, who were Zhao Kun's "fake father-in-law and mother-in-law," saw Zhao Kun, after a brief moment of surprise, they became flustered and nervous, without any joy or happiness.
Because meeting here would be tantamount to exposing a lie.
Their previous excuses for seeking medical treatment have become a complete joke.
Even if one wanted to cover up the lie, it would be difficult to do so successfully.
Zhao Kun clenched his fists, wishing he could grab Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua by the collar and make them pay back the money.
But he held back.
He couldn't afford to cause trouble and get locked up in the dark room again. His immediate priority was to leave, not to ask Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua for money.
The couple thought Zhao Kun would question them, but soon they found that after looking at them for a few seconds, Zhao Kun silently retreated behind them as if he didn't know them.
This secretly relieved the two of them.
If Zhao Kun makes trouble, they really don't know how to deal with it. The most important thing is, why is Zhao Kun here too?
Zhou Dana and Wang Xiuhua, a married couple, had many questions they wanted to answer.
