Wu Yue wrapped the carefully dug wild onions in soil and placed them in the space. He planned to plant them next to other crops when he returned.
Although wild onions are short and have low yields, their flavor is much stronger than domestic onions and they are very suitable for pairing with strong-flavored wild animal meat.
After digging up the onions, the group continued searching in the forest. Wu Yue didn't see any plants worth transplanting, so he just put all the wild vegetables collected into the space.
The group started their return journey in the afternoon, as the hunting party should have returned by then. The people of the Sharp Fang Tribe only ate one meal a day, at night, and they didn't want to miss it.
They crossed the river along the single-plank bridge. Wu Yue took out some wild vegetables and handed them to Yun: "You guys go first, I'll go plant the onions." He was afraid that the onions would dry up if it took too long.
From a distance, it could be confirmed that the hunting team had returned, and they had a good harvest today. Everyone in the tribe gathered around to help process the prey, so Wu Yue didn't encounter anyone along the way.
He found a corner and planted a dozen wild onions and watered them thoroughly. He then checked his vegetable garden. Most of the plants had sprouted, especially the beans and radishes, but there was no sign of growth in the wheat and peppers.
He was a little worried. Wheat is a very good staple food and chili is an important condiment. He must not let anything go wrong with these two crops that he attaches great importance to!
After pouring some water on the dry soil, he went to the river to wash his hands. After his hands were washed clean, he set his eyes on the shoes on his feet.
This pair of shoes has not been rotated for more than ten days and is now covered in mud and is extremely dirty.
His pants weren't much better. He could wash his clothes alternately, but he only had this one pair of pants, so he had to wear them in between when changing his underwear.
Speaking of which, he hadn't taken a shower for several days. There was a hot spring in the cave where he could take a shower alone. After coming to the Sharp Tooth Tribe, he didn't dare to go into the water because the weather was too cold. Boiling hot water was too much of a luxury and he was unwilling to do it.
I felt the water temperature in the river and it wasn't too cold. There was still some afterglow of the sunset in the sky. Maybe I could take a quick bath before the temperature drops?
He did it right away. After looking around and making sure there was no one around, he quickly took off his relatively clean clothes and put them into the space. Then he slowly went into the water wearing his pants.
When his warm body touched the not-so-hot river water, Wu Yue immediately got goose bumps all over his body and his teeth started to chatter. He felt a little regretful.
But it was already raining! Wu Yue gritted his teeth, buried his head in the water and scrubbed it for a while, then took off his pants and rubbed them vigorously a few times. He had no detergent on hand, so he had to wash it purely by hand.
After feeling that it was roughly clean, he threw his pants into the space and found a dish towel from the space to scrub his skin.
…
Xiao was very happy today. Now that spring had arrived, the animals were no longer hiding and were out looking for food. So they hunted much richer prey than last time and even found a nest of bird eggs.
Thinking Wu Yue would like it, he carefully brought it back in his fur bag, but he didn't see him by the tribe's campfire.
"The Lord God's Messenger found a satisfactory plant today and said he wanted to plant it." Yun informed.
Xiao nodded and headed towards the north of the tribe, in the direction where the man was farming.
Just wanting to give him the bird egg as quickly as possible, Xiao quickened his pace, but suddenly stopped when he was about to reach his destination.
Wu Yue was showering. Though it was dim, he could still clearly see Wu Yue's back. Unlike his own sun-tanned shoulders and back, Wu Yue's skin, always hidden beneath his clothes, was very white. Because he was so thin, the bones on his back protruded slightly, drenched in glistening water droplets that seemed about to fall.
For some reason, Xiao felt a burst of heat and his throat rolled.
He looked away, coughed lightly, and said, "The water is very cold, come up when you're done washing."
Wu Yue was startled when he suddenly heard a voice behind him and quickly turned around. However, when he saw that it was Xiao, standing quite far away, he felt relieved. He agreed and stood up, quickly taking a piece of fur from his space and wrapping it around his waist, then found some clothes and put them on.
The shoes were washed and thrown in the space, wet and unwearable. He simply found two pieces of worn fur to wrap his feet and tied a knot at the ankle with a ribbon.
Fortunately, there is no glass or nails on the ground in the tribe, otherwise these two pieces of fur would not provide much protection.
The fur that resembled a skirt wasn't very effective in keeping out the cold. Wu Yue endured the wind blowing through his legs and slowly walked over to Xiao. As soon as he came over, his eyes were drawn to the fur bag in Xiao's hand. "What's this? Did you find the spices?"
Xiao shook his head: "Many plants have just sprouted in spring. We didn't see the plants with strong smells you mentioned along the way, but you should like this one too." He opened the pocket, revealing seven or eight round bird eggs with a light blue color inside.
"Bird eggs!?" Wu Yue was quite surprised. He picked up one and took a look. The bird egg was quite big, at least bigger than a quail egg, but not as big as a chicken egg. It was about three-fifths the size of a chicken egg.
Xiao nodded and said, "We happened to see a bird's nest, so we took it out. The meat and eggs of this kind of bird are very delicious. It's a pity that we didn't catch the bird."
"It's great to have bird eggs!" Wu Yue smiled and carefully put the eggs back. "Come on, I'll make you some wild vegetable and egg soup to try."
Xiao paused and frowned at him: "This is for you to eat."
Wu Yue was also stunned. "Are you cooking for me?" He laughed and patted Xiao's shoulder. "No need for that, okay? I'm not a patient and I'm not in confinement. Good things should be shared by everyone."
At this point, he remembered something and sighed again: "Alas... I haven't told you, right? My hometown is different from here. Men and women there will get married and raise their children together. But there are also children like me who have lost their parents for various reasons. We usually live in orphanages, and we share any good things we have."
He missed those days a little. Although he had no parents, the director's mother and the uncles and aunts who took care of them were all very kind to them.
The relationship between the friends is also very good. If someone buys a bag of candy, they will share one with everyone. If someone wins a prize at school, they will share one with everyone.
They are like family, sharing happiness and pain with each other.
But now... he can no longer see them.
Sniffing, he said with a nasal tone, "Anyway, I don't have the habit of eating alone. We all share what we get together. By the way, you gave me some ground eggs before, right? Thank you in advance, but I will share that with everyone."
Xiao didn't force it anymore, but just slowly followed him towards the campfire.
Wu Yue did what he said. He took out a stainless steel basin and placed it next to the fire. He asked the person who was cleaning up the prey for some fat, chopped the fat into pieces and threw it into the basin to fry out the oil. At the same time, he beat the bird eggs into a wooden bowl and stirred them evenly with homemade chopsticks.
Stainless steel basins are actually not very suitable for cooking. The flames rose and burned the oil residue a little black. Wu Yue quickly poured the egg liquid into it.
With a sizzling sound, the aroma of scrambled eggs suddenly rose up and spread, attracting the attention of those who were working with their heads down.
“Smells so good!”
"It's the God's Messenger. The God's Messenger is making something new again!"
Smiling complacently, Wu Yue stir-fried the eggs, then moved to another position, poured the fried eggs into a large pot, added water, and then went to find the wild vegetables that Yun had to wash.
With so few eggs and such a large pot of water, the soup made from it was naturally not very tasty, so Wu Yue added some bones as usual and stewed it together.
But after all, the soup had the delicious flavor of the egg, and everyone who drank the soup that night said they had never tasted such delicious soup.
Wu Yue smiled while holding the wooden bowl, and became more determined to tame the jungle fowl. It was really sad to see these people making a fuss and looking so ignorant about eating an egg.
Xiao silently ate the barbecue and drank the egg drop, bone and wild vegetable soup. Occasionally, a bit of egg drop would slip into his mouth. He took a sip of it with his tongue and it was soft and fragrant.
Looking at Wu Yue's smiling face, he slowly curled up the corners of his mouth.
After finishing the meal, it was time to rest. As usual, the cut intestines and meat to be processed were put into the space. Wu Yue checked the smoked blood sausage again and was relieved after confirming that most of the moisture had been lost and the blood sausage had not rotted or deteriorated.
Food is very precious, and if the blood sausage fails, a lot of meat and salt will be wasted.
He crawled into the tent, took out his wet pants and shoes and hung them in the corner to dry. Then he wrapped himself in fur and went to sleep. Perhaps because he was thinking about his days in the orphanage today, he returned to his carefree childhood in his dream.
He had a good dream and when he opened his eyes again he felt refreshed. He touched his pants and shoes and found that he was almost done.
He quickly changed into his clothes and headed out. He wasn't going hunting today. Wu Yue thought for a moment and decided to put building a house on the agenda. It was fine now in spring; even if it rained, it would be a light drizzle. By the rainy season, a tent like this would be difficult to maintain.
Yun was already very skilled at making blood sausage, so Wu Yue gave all the ingredients to her, and he found Xiao to talk about the house.
The most readily available material for the Sharp Fang Tribe was wood, so he planned to build a log house. His plan was to cut grooves at each end of the logs, forming four walls like building blocks, and then cover the exterior with mud. The roof would be constructed with wood, fur, and hay, as long as it didn't leak.
Doors and windows are opened on the walls to basically ensure sufficient lighting, and a simple wooden house is formed.
Although the accommodation conditions are not very good, they are more than enough compared to the tents that the Sharp Tooth Tribe lives in now.
Xiao pondered for a while, then asked Wu Yue for some specific steps. After confirming that it was feasible, he sent people to the forest to cut down trees. Wu Yue took this opportunity to check the land and then rushed back to guide them in building the house.
At the fish's strong request, the first test object was his house.
There was no need to hunt today, so the middle-aged men who had nothing to do enthusiastically participated in the project of building the house. Some were chopping trees, some were mixing mud, and the progress was very fast.
Especially Yu. On the one hand, this was building a house for him, and on the other hand, he also had some experience in helping Wu Yue build a toilet. At the construction site, he even acted like a foreman and kept directing everyone.
Then he was pinned to the ground and beaten by Shi, who was unhappy with him.
