side by side
Jiang Yizhou didn't transfer schools in the end.
I heard that he had a big fight with his family and locked himself in his room for three days. In the end, Jiang Yizhou's father relented and said he respected his choice. Shen Yu didn't know the details of the process, but he only knew that when Jiang Yizhou returned to school, his eyes were a little bloodshot, but his smile was brighter than anyone else's.
"Done." He leaned over the table behind Shen Yu and poked Shen Yu's back with his finger, his tone full of the meaning of asking for credit, "You won't be able to deny it in the future."
Chen Yu's pen paused, leaving a small ink dot on the exercise book. He didn't look back, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curl up slightly: "Who relies on you?"
"I'm relying on you." Jiang Yizhou said it confidently. His voice was not loud, but it reached Chen Yu's ears clearly, with a bit of intimacy.
There were a few low laughs around, and Shen Yu's cheeks felt a little hot, but he didn't refute it.
The days marched on like a wound-up clock, moving forward steadily and orderly. Chen Yu was busy preparing for the upcoming entrance exams, while Jiang Yizhou, under his "supervision," began to diligently study the textbooks he had once considered his enemies.
During the break, the following scene could always be seen in the classroom: Chen Yu held a pen and patiently explained the questions to Jiang Yizhou, his brows occasionally furrowed because the other party "refused to change after repeated teachings"; Jiang Yizhou lay on the table, supporting his chin with one hand, his eyes drifting to Chen Yu's face from time to time, and when he was discovered, he would chuckle and then pretend to continue listening seriously.
"How many times have we gone over this problem?" Chen Yu tapped Jiang Yizhou's exercise book, which was still blank. "You can't even remember the formula?"
Jiang Yizhou scratched his head, took out an orange candy from his pocket, peeled off the candy wrapper and handed it to Chen Yu's mouth: "Eat a candy and you will remember it."
Chen Yu glared at him, but still opened her mouth and took the candy in. The sweet taste spread on the tip of her tongue, and the anger that had risen in her heart because of his carelessness also disappeared.
"If you can't remember it, I won't tell you anymore." Shen Yu said fiercely.
"I'll remember it, I'll remember it!" Jiang Yizhou immediately sat up straight and picked up the pen. "I'll definitely remember it this time."
The setting sun streamed in through the window, casting a warm golden edge on the two of them. Chalk dust danced in the beam of light, and the air was filled with the scent of paper and the faint smell of candied oranges. It was quiet and beautiful.
On the way home from school, Jiang Yizhou would push his scooter and walk slowly with Chen Yu. They would talk about interesting things in school, which university they wanted to go to, and imagine their future lives.
"I want to apply to University A." Chen Yu looked at the sunset in the distance and said softly, "I heard that the mathematics department there is very good."
"Then I'll apply to University A, too." Jiang Yizhou immediately responded with an extremely confident tone, "Even if I can't get into the mathematics department, I can go to the physical education department next door. It's closer to you anyway."
Shen Yu couldn't help but laugh: "Physical Education Department? Are you good at sports?"
"Of course!" Jiang Yizhou patted his chest, "Fighting is considered a sports skill, right?"
Shen Yu was amused by him and laughed out loud. He raised his hand and patted him: "Be serious."
Jiang Yizhou looked at him smiling, the light in his eyes as gentle as water. He suddenly felt that those days of fighting and skipping classes were like a vague dream. Now, being able to go to class with Chen Yu every day, going home together, and working hard for the future together, is real life.
"Honestly," Jiang Yizhou's voice became serious, "wherever you go, I will go."
Chen Yu paused, turned around, and met his serious eyes. There was no longer the previous arrogance and carelessness, only full of determination and tenderness.
"Okay." Shen Yu nodded gently, his voice was very soft, but it was full of trust.
The evening breeze blew, carrying the fragrance of grass and trees. Two young men walked side by side, their shadows stretched long under the streetlight, nestled tightly together, like two trees supporting each other, slowly growing over time, heading in the same direction, towards a future full of hope.
They all knew that the road ahead might be bumpy, but as long as they could walk side by side like this, they would not be afraid of anything.
Because their spring is still long.
