The truth [extra]

the truth

The afternoon sun shone through the mottled leaves, shining on Shen Yu and Jiang Yizhou. They sat on a park bench, the lake in front of them was as calm as a mirror. Today, Shen Yu decided to talk to Jiang Yizhou about his parents, the past that had been buried deep in his heart.

"My parents...died in a fire," Chen Yu said softly, as if afraid to disturb the tranquility around them. "That was when I was in junior high school. In the middle of the night, our house suddenly caught fire and spread very quickly. When I woke up, choked by the thick smoke, I couldn't see anything clearly."

Chen Yu's eyes grew empty, his thoughts returning to that horrific night. "I was terrified and desperately ran out. I only remember a pair of hands forcefully pushing me out the door. That was the last time I felt the warmth of my parents." He paused, took a deep breath, and said, "By the time the firefighters put out the fire, it was too late."

Jiang Yizhou held Shen Yu's hand and squeezed it gently. He didn't say anything, just listened quietly.

"Afterward, I couldn't sleep for a long time. Every time I closed my eyes, I would see the fire and the image of my parents pushing me out the door." Chen Yu continued, "I started to become very withdrawn and didn't want to communicate with anyone. I felt like the whole world had abandoned me."

Jiang Yizhou put Shen Yu's hand against his face with heartache, trying to give him some warmth.

"Until one day, when I was sorting through my parents' belongings, I found my father's diary." Chen Yu frowned slightly, as if trying to recall the contents of the diary. "He mentioned in the diary that the company was recently carrying out a very important project, but there were some problems with the partner and it might be dangerous. I was wondering at the time, could this fire be related to that project?"

"You mean, it might be man-made?" Jiang Yizhou finally spoke, with a hint of worry in his eyes.

"I don't know," Shen Yu shook his head. "This is just my guess. But over the years, this question has always been in my mind. I always feel that my parents' death is not that simple."

A gust of wind blew, and ripples appeared on the surface of the lake. The sunlight danced on the waves like countless broken mirrors.

"I once secretly investigated my father's company, but it's been so long that a lot of the information is gone, and everyone who worked there has gone their separate ways." Shen Yu's voice was filled with helplessness, "But I won't give up. I must find out why my parents died."

Jiang Yizhou hugged Chen Yu into his arms and whispered, "No matter what, I will be with you. We will find the truth together."

Chen Yu leaned on Jiang Yizhou's shoulder, looking at the ripples on the lake, and secretly vowed in his heart that he must let his parents' spirits in heaven rest in peace and must uncover the secret behind the fire.
