Chapter Seventy-Four: Vicious Revenge
A hint of amusement flickered in Xin Li's eyes: "Oh?"
He Mingzhou had never mentioned these things to Xin Li before.
Xin Li was just surprised that the deputy commander entrusted such an important task as delivering supplies to a girl, so she asked a question.
Unexpectedly, I even got some gossip about He Mingzhou out of the question.
"Yes, Xiao He is really capable. In the past, when there were exchanges between military regions, Xiao He was the one who went from our side."
"I heard that Xiao He is so famous in various military regions because he is so capable."
"The higher-ups wanted Xiao He to go elsewhere to report on his work more than once, but Xiao He insisted on staying on the island, so everyone gave up on the idea."
"Otherwise, you might not have married into this island."
"If Xiao He had gone to Shanghai back then, you two might have known each other by now."
Xin Li gave a polite smile and said cooperatively, "Maybe it really is possible."
But deep down, I said no.
After all, she hadn't even arrived yet at that time.
Once the division commander announced this good news, everything else became insignificant.
After all, the only thing ordinary people care about is their livelihood.
Once basic needs like food and clothing are met, everything else falls into place.
Without their raft, Uncle Shi and his men stood awkwardly in place, unsure whether to leave or stay.
The division commander didn't intend to argue with these people. He gave the village chief a few instructions and then looked at Xinli with a smile.
"Little He's wife, I heard you brought all the food you brought this time?"
Xin Li was surprised to be called out, and after a moment of surprise, she put on a smile again: "How did it all get to your ears? It's just a little bit of food, nothing to worry about."
The division commander's smile softened even more: "Well, whether it's a lot or a little, you've been a great help this time. I'll keep this in mind and discuss it with the others later to give you some recognition."
Receiving recognition in this era is a good thing, and Xin Li did not refuse it.
"Then I'll thank you in advance, Commander."
Seeing that Xin Li was not shy and acted with grace and poise, the teacher couldn't help but think of He Mingzhou.
The smile on his face became even more playful: "No need to thank me. It's better for you and Xiao He to get along well than anything else. That kid finally got married, and then this happened on our island."
“This is your first time experiencing this too. I’ll approve Xiao He’s leave so he can spend some time with you.”
Xinli did not refuse.
Since the leaders all said they could approve leave for He Mingzhou, it would seem hypocritical for her to humbly refuse.
“Alright, that just so happens I wanted He Mingzhou to help me buy some things.”
After all, we just experienced a typhoon, so there must be a lot of things to check and fix at home.
The division commander smiled and said, "Alright, you can just wait for Xiao He at home."
Everyone else laughed good-naturedly when they heard this.
The group escorted their teacher away, and Xin Li also wanted to go back.
"Want to come over for dinner tonight?"
Aunt Yang warmly invited Xinli, who initially wanted to refuse, but then she thought that she would have no food to eat if He Mingzhou wasn't there, so she simply agreed.
Anyway, she'd be freeloading wherever she went, so she might as well treat Aunt Yang to a better meal while she was at her house.
Aunt Yang was very happy to see that Xinli had agreed, and she went back and got busy.
Seeing that Xinli had gone back and brought back cured meat, Aunt Yang immediately refused, saying, "How can I accept your things?"
"I invited you here specifically for dinner!"
Xinli said matter-of-factly, "But I want to eat cured meat."
"Aunt Yang, please help me with this."
"I've been going to Sister Lu's house for meals every day and I'm getting embarrassed. Since you brought it up today, Aunt Yang, I've come here with my bare hands."
Aunt Yang knew perfectly well that this was just an excuse for Xin Li to improve their family's meals.
Her eyes welled up with tears for a moment, but Aunt Yang was a straightforward person after all. She didn't hesitate any longer, nodded and said, "Okay, then I'll make it for you."
Xiao Hua also went to help, and the house was instantly filled with the aroma of food.
Xinli wanted to help, but Aunt Yang kicked her out.
"Guests should just sit still; there's no reason for you to help them!"
"If you keep doing this, I'm going to get angry."
Xinli couldn't really piss them off, so she could only nod.
Then, feeling utterly bored, I sat in the living room, waiting for dinner to be served.
After sitting for a while, she felt a bit of an urge to urinate, so she went to the backyard of Aunt Yang's house to use the toilet.
When I came out, I heard rustling noises.
Her eyes narrowed, and she instinctively hid behind the wall, peering out.
Uncle Shi and a few others were acting suspiciously at the door.
Aunt Yang had just brought several dishes to the table, but those people were staring at those dishes, pointing and commenting, and even took out something to pour into them.
"stop!"
Xinli smelled a pungent odor and quickly went to stop it.
Uncle Shi and the others were so shocked that they almost lost their souls in a flash.
The thing he was holding lost its balance and fell to the ground.
A bunch of white foam appeared with a hissing sound.
"Rat poison?"
Aunt Yang ran out of the kitchen and was horrified when she saw what was happening.
She was like an enraged tiger, pouncing on Uncle Shi and the others, scratching and clawing at them.
"How could you be so heartless! You actually came to my house and poisoned it! Are you trying to wipe out my family line?!"
"I've never seen such vicious people! Do you have any conscience at all?!"
Xiaohua was terrified. She wanted to go up but was afraid of being a burden to her mother, and she didn't dare to leave, fearing that her mother would suffer any loss.
"You damned widow, how dare you hit us!"
Old Shi and his gang weren't pushovers either; they were furious that Aunt Yang dared to lay a hand on them.
Xiaohua panicked when she saw the menacing looks on their faces: "You're not allowed to hit my mom!"
He was about to rush forward to stop Uncle Shi and the others.
But she was just a young girl, rushing up like that to deliver hostages to them.
Don't go over there.
Xinli stopped Xiaohua and rushed forward, kicking Uncle Shi in the chin.
With a snap, the sound of a dislocated jaw echoed throughout the room.
The sight made everyone's teeth ache, and even their jaws started to hurt.
Uncle Shi loosened his grip on Aunt Yang's hair, then belatedly clutched his chin and screamed in pain.
But because his jaw was dislocated from being kicked, he could only make some strange noises.
The others quickly rushed to help him up.
Xin Li went straight to the yard, grabbed a hemp rope, and with a flick of her wrist, tied the people together.
The group immediately started hurling insults at Xin Li: "What are you doing! Let us go right now!"
Xin Li raised her foot at those people: "Do you also want to experience what it's like to have your jaw dislocated?"
Those people immediately became obedient.
Xinli tied the person up and threw them into a corner, then told Xiaohua to tell the village chief and the police station, and preferably to call He Mingzhou over as well.
He then went back inside to have Aunt Yang examine her injuries.
Aunt Yang fought those several by herself, and although it was very satisfying, she also suffered a loss.
"Xinxin, what should we do next?"
Aunt Yang was indeed very angry just now, but after calming down, she felt somewhat at a loss.
