Chapter Seventy-One: Full of Terrible Ideas
When Xin Li woke up, He Mingzhou had just entered the house.
She glanced at the time subconsciously; it was already noon. She frowned and asked with some concern, "Aren't you resting? What are you doing out at this hour?"
Now every household is thinking about how to make a living in the second half of the year, and there is also the problem of food shortage. What can He Mingzhou do if he goes out?
Could it be that he went to discuss ways to get rich with someone?
"I went to the division commander's house."
Xinli's mood did not relax because of his words; on the contrary, it became even more tense.
"You didn't go and do some good deed again, did you?"
Xin Li wholeheartedly agreed with He Mingzhou's decision to open the granaries and distribute grain.
But now the entire island is facing a survival crisis, which is not something that one person can turn around.
Xin Li had already placed He Mingzhou under her wing; she didn't want her man to be a pushover.
In particular, not everyone on this island is a good person; many of them take advantage of others and then complain.
She disliked it very much.
Having lived in the apocalypse for so long, Xin Li had long since developed a vengeful nature. If people were kind to her, she would certainly not treat them unfairly, but if they liked to cause trouble, she would find an opportunity to retaliate.
She and He Mingzhou have similarities in their behavior and ways of doing things, but they are also different. She doesn't want to see He Mingzhou being betrayed because he is too kind.
"No."
He Mingzhou knew that Xin Li was concerned about him, so he smiled slightly, walked to Xin Li's side, and took her hand: "Am I really that bad at judging people in your heart?"
Xin Li pouted: "It's not a matter of judgment, I'm just afraid you're being too kind."
These people are all stubborn and single-minded, wholeheartedly devoted to the country and its people.
But in reality, there are many petty people who take advantage of this to act recklessly and cause trouble.
He Mingzhou could tolerate her, but as his wife, she couldn't tolerate even a little bit.
She will protect her husband.
"But it's alright. If anyone dares to cheat, just wait and see how I deal with them!"
When He Mingzhou saw Xin Li making such harsh remarks with her pretty face, he didn't find her fierce at all. Instead, he thought she was as cute as an angry kitten.
"Okay, then our family will be counting on you from now on."
Xinli patted her chest and promised, "Don't worry, with me here, no one can hurt you."
He Mingzhou laughed out loud.
"good."
The two entered the house, and He Mingzhou first asked Xin Li if she was hungry.
Xinli shook her head.
"I ate before I went to sleep, so I'm not hungry right now."
He Mingzhou said, "Then have something to eat with me."
He cooked two bowls of noodles and also poached an egg for Xinli.
Xinli pushed her bowl over, saying, "I really can't eat anymore, you eat more."
He Mingzhou didn't stand on ceremony and quickly finished both bowls of noodles.
Xinli never expected that someone could find eating noodles so interesting, and she stared at him intently, resting her chin on her hands.
He Mingzhou felt a little embarrassed by her staring at him like that.
"What's wrong?"
He took a handkerchief and wiped his mouth: "Do you think I eat terribly?"
"I got used to it when I was in the army, and I haven't changed it over the years."
During training, there are strict rules about meal and rest times. These rules have become ingrained in him. Although he doesn't need to worry about those things at home now, once a habit is formed, it's hard to change.
He Mingzhou didn't think much of it before, but now he's a little worried that Xin Li will look down on him.
After all, every strand of Xinli's hair exudes natural beauty and refinement.
He worried that he was not good enough for Xin Li.
Seeing He Mingzhou's embarrassment, Xin Li smiled and leaned over to kiss him on the cheek.
"What does it matter if you eat properly? As long as you can eat your fill, that's all that matters. You're very manly, and I like that."
He Mingzhou was instantly coaxed into becoming an embryo by Xin Li's words.
I love you no matter what you look like.
He said this with his ears turning red, and He Mingzhou immediately stood up, picked up the bowl and chopsticks and went to the yard to fetch water to wash the dishes.
Xin Li followed him out, but before she could speak, she saw Zhang Jinhua appear at the gate of the courtyard.
"Xinxin, are you free?"
Xin Li responded and looked at Zhang Jinhua with He Mingzhou: "Yes, what's wrong, sister-in-law?"
Zhang Jinhua said with a serious face, "Our island residents are having a meeting. If you're free, come join us."
"Eh."
Xinli got up and went back to change her clothes.
He Mingzhou was supposed to go with them when they left, but someone from the army came and said that the division commander wanted to see He Mingzhou, so He Mingzhou and Xin Li had to go their separate ways.
Xin Li found Zhang Jinhua and went with him to the open space on the island where everyone discussed important matters.
The others seemed to have received the news early, and they were already sitting down with their small stools.
Before Xinli could even see how many people had arrived, she saw Aunt Yang waving at her from the crowd: "Xinxin, come sit here, I saved a seat for you."
This was Xinli's first time attending such a meeting, and she really didn't have much experience. Luckily, Aunt Yang brought her an extra small stool.
"Thank you, Aunt Yang."
Aunt Yang smiled and moved a little to the side: "It's nothing, don't worry about it."
The islanders had a very good impression of Xinli because of the food she had delivered earlier, and they all came over to greet her.
Xin Li's face was practically frozen from smiling before it finally ended.
"Aunt Yang, what's going on today?"
Aunt Yang leaned close to Xinli's ear and said, "It seems to be because of the typhoon. You know that after a typhoon hits our island, everyone has had a hard time. Now we want to discuss how to get by."
Xin Li raised an eyebrow, finding it a bit strange: "How else can we live our lives? We each live our own lives, of course."
What else can we do?
Aunt Yang patted Xinli's hand: "Don't underestimate the troublemaking ability of those people on the island."
"Let's wait and see. I reckon this is aimed at the big shots on the island."
Hearing Aunt Yang mention the "wealthy family," Xin Li suddenly felt a bad premonition.
Sure enough, as soon as everyone arrived, someone immediately stood up and said that everyone on the island was going through a low point, and in order to ensure that everyone could return to normal life, they hoped that those who were better off would step forward to withstand the pressure of this food shortage.
"Anyway, everyone will pay it back in the future. If you contribute some food now, everyone will remember your kindness."
"Also, if any family has extra money, I hope they can generously donate. We've run out of livestock and urgently need to replenish them. Only when these things are in place can everyone get by."
"Once everyone's lives improve, these things will naturally be returned, so don't worry about that."
Xin Li almost laughed in anger when she heard this.
This is the first time I've seen someone talk about asking for money so confidently and righteously.
To put it bluntly, they wanted to eliminate the wealthy households.
Because of a natural disaster, everyone is in a bad situation. Those who have been depleted naturally assume that some people must still have savings and inventory, so they must temporarily give them away for others to use in order to survive.
Not taking it would be considered cold-blooded, a deliberate act of refusing to help someone in distress.
