Chapter Sixty-Two: The Typhoon is Coming

Chapter Sixty-Two: The Typhoon is Coming

The heavy rain continued the next day.

Moreover, the temperature is even rising.

When Xin Li got up, she found that He Mingzhou had already gotten up and prepared breakfast. He was standing at the door staring blankly at the rain. After hesitating for a moment, she went over and asked, "Are you worried?"

He Mingzhou nodded.

"If a typhoon really hits, it will be the people on the island who suffer the most."

"If a typhoon really comes, as long as everyone responds properly, there shouldn't be any major problems."

He Mingzhou said, "That's not the case for those people."

Xinli looked at him with some confusion: "What is it then?"

Is there anything more important than life?

"The people on the island don't have many ways to make a living. They rely on beachcombing, planting some crops that are suitable for the island, and some young and middle-aged people going out to sea. That's all they have to survive."

"Once a typhoon hits, food supplies are quickly depleted in a short period of time, which means a year's worth of food reserves will be wiped out. After surviving a near-death experience, everyone will face even more severe survival challenges."

Xinli pursed her lips into a straight line.

She had forgotten about it.

In the apocalypse, besides building bases, everyone is just hoping to have a place to sleep.

Moreover, aside from survival supplies, people don't have a high demand for other things.

So much so that Xinli almost forgot that people need sustainable development.

The typhoon destroyed not only everyone's homes, but also everyone's hope for survival.

For some, narrowly escaping the clutches of a typhoon is nothing to be happy about, because the real test is yet to come.

“But this is not something we can stop.” Xin Li patted He Mingzhou’s tense arm: “Natural disasters and man-made calamities are beyond human control.”

He Mingzhou nodded: "I know, but I still can't help but worry."

Xinli said in a lighthearted tone, "Perhaps you don't need to worry. It's just raining now, and maybe it will stop after it stops?"

Xin Li grabbed He Mingzhou's arm: "Okay, let's go eat breakfast first."

He Mingzhou was pulled along by Xin Li, and his heavy mood was relieved for a moment.

In the past, He Mingzhou always went through these things alone.

Even if there are worries and pain, there is no way to share them with others.

Unexpectedly, there is now someone by his side who can talk to him and comfort his nervousness.

Getting married is a good thing.

As He Mingzhou thought this, a smile appeared on his face.

The two had breakfast together and then went to Zhang Jinhua's house to check on her situation.

"The chicken coop is a little leaky, but everything else is fine."

"This year it's just rained, there's been no wind, which is a blessing in disguise."

He Mingzhou took his tools without saying a word and went to help repair the chicken coop. Xin Li followed and saw that a man working seriously was really handsome.

He Mingzhou's incredibly masculine physique was damnably attractive, and Xin Li was somewhat absent-minded all day.

It feels like there's a hormone-emitting machine sitting next to me.

He Mingzhou noticed that Xin Li was not in a good mood, declined Zhang Jinhua's offer to have them stay for dinner, and took Xin Li home.

"What's wrong? Do you have a cold? Or are you feeling unwell?"

Xin Li smiled mischievously when she heard He Mingzhou's question.

"I am feeling a little unwell."

He Mingzhou immediately tensed up: "Where do you feel unwell?"

Xinli leaned close to his ear and whispered something.

He Mingzhou froze completely: "You... how could you say such a thing?"

Seeing that He Mingzhou's ears were red, Xin Li smiled brightly: "Why can't you say it?"

Did I say something wrong?

He Mingzhou's neck turned red uncontrollably.

"You really are..."

Xinli hugged him tightly: "Since we're bored anyway, let's wash up and go upstairs."

He Mingzhou initially didn't want to pay attention, but he couldn't resist Xin Li's persistent pleading, so he could only eat some noodles and then the two of them washed up and went into bed.

For three consecutive days, the rain grew heavier and heavier, and the wind also began to pick up.

He Mingzhou was urgently recalled. As the deputy division commander, he was tasked with organizing the evacuation of the people on the island.

What I thought would be a simple task turned out to be fraught with difficulties.

"I'm not leaving! It's just raining this year, there hasn't been a typhoon at all. I still have so many chickens and ducks at home, I have to stay and take care of them!"

“I’m not leaving either. I don’t want to live outside. This isn’t the first time we’ve encountered a typhoon. What’s there to be afraid of? Besides, I really can’t eat or sleep if I have to live outdoors and endure the elements.”

"I have a lot of things hidden at home, and I have to take them with me when I leave!"

Xin Li's fists hardened as she looked at the stubborn crowd in front of her.

If it were up to her style, she would have simply stepped forward, knocked them down one by one with a punch, and taken them away.

But He Mingzhou and his men always put the people first, so even when they were refused when they came to help them relocate, they were still polite and courteous.

"Sir, now is not the time to think about chickens and ducks. The typhoon is coming soon. It would be safer for us to move to a higher place."

"After all, nothing is more important than yourself, don't you think?"

"Besides, we're just making a strategic relocation. If the typhoon doesn't come in the end, we'll still send you down. The chickens and ducks will still be here. They'll just go hungry for a day or two at most, but they'll be fine."

"Who knows!" The old man hugged his chickens and ducks tightly, refusing to let go. "I've raised these chickens and ducks with so much effort. What if someone steals them after I leave them at home? No, no, I can't trust them!"

Everyone looked helpless.

"If we all move upstairs, there won't be anyone here. What if someone takes advantage of the chaos to come down and steal things? My family has treasures I've saved up for most of my life, and I'll take them with me even if it kills me! I absolutely won't leave!"

After a busy day, He Mingzhou and his team only managed to persuade a dozen or so households to move to higher ground.

Moreover, not all of these dozen or so households went; some elderly people absolutely refused to leave.

He even declared that even if he were to die, he would rather die in his own home than go anywhere else.

"Did they do this before?"

During the meal, Xinli asked Zhang Jinhua with a puzzled look.

Since typhoons are common on the island, and everyone has witnessed their devastation, why are they still so stubborn? Xinli really couldn't understand it.

Zhang Jinhua rolled his eyes: "Just wishful thinking."

“Every year there are people like this who value their belongings more than their own lives. They are gambling that the typhoon won’t come. When it does, they will be the ones with the best foresight.”

"If this kind of person were in the past, he would be asking for death."

Xin Li clicked her tongue twice: "Then what do we do when we encounter such a situation? We can't keep trying to persuade him every day, can we? He Mingzhou's lips are practically worn out from talking so much."

Zhang Jinhua glanced at Xin Li with a teasing look: "Oh, you're already feeling sorry for her?"

Xin Li coughed and said, "Sister-in-law Lu, what are you talking about? I'm just talking to you about something important."

Zhang Jinhua waved his hand: "It's alright, these people will behave themselves when the typhoon comes."

For so many days it had only rained and there hadn't been a typhoon, so Xinli thought a typhoon wouldn't be coming anytime soon.

Unexpectedly, Zhang Jinhua's words came true, and the typhoon arrived the very next day.
