Chapter Thirty-Seven: You're So Clever
He Mingzhou's heart tightened, and he couldn't help but move his hands as gently as possible.
"Does it still hurt?"
Seeing He Mingzhou's tense expression, Xin Li wanted to laugh, but it hurt too much, so she could only bite her lip and nod.
He Mingzhou's gaze fell on her swollen ankle, and after thinking for a moment, he suddenly lowered his head.
As Xin Li was wondering what he was going to do, she saw the tall, cold-faced man reverently grasp her ankle and slowly lift it up. Then he leaned forward and gently blew on the spot where she had twisted her ankle.
A gentle breeze blew onto her aching ankle, and miraculously, it helped to alleviate the burning sensation.
Xinli tried to twist her foot, and immediately her face contorted in pain.
"It still hurts?"
He Mingzhou was now genuinely panicked.
He wanted to slap himself, after all, he was the culprit who caused all of this.
Seeing He Mingzhou's wrinkled face, looking as if he wanted to punch himself in frustration, Xin Li finally burst out laughing.
"Okay, it doesn't hurt that much anymore."
Xinli reached out and patted his tense arm, feeling the muscles in her palm were thick but not too hard. Xinli nodded in satisfaction.
This man has a really good physique.
"real?"
He Mingzhou was worried that Xin Li was saying this on purpose because of his appearance, so he carefully reached out and touched his injury.
Seeing that Xinli only frowned and did not cry out in pain as before, he was slightly relieved.
"It's good that it doesn't hurt anymore."
Realizing that Xinli's ankle was still in his hands, He Mingzhou quickly put her foot back on the bed.
The movements were quick, yet very gentle.
Seeing that the man could actually notice these details, Xin Li's smile deepened.
"What method did you use just now? Did blowing on it make the pain go away?"
He Mingzhou nodded and said, "My mom once told me that if you blow on it, the pain will go away."
He Mingzhou spoke with a serious face as he coaxed a child, the contrast making him appear quite adorable.
Xin Li laughed heartily.
"Your mother is lying to a child, and you actually believe her?"
He Mingzhou's expression stiffened, feeling as if he had been mocked by Xin Li, and he retorted softly, "Didn't you just say it didn't hurt?"
Xinli's smile came to an abrupt end.
Seeing that he had outmaneuvered Xin Li, He Mingzhou smiled and revealed a hint of tenderness in his otherwise tough demeanor.
Seeing this, Xinli rolled her eyes.
As expected, smiles don't disappear, they just shift.
This man was even more straightforward than she had imagined.
But it doesn't matter, they have plenty of time to continue their entanglement.
"I'd like to wash up."
Although it wasn't hot outside, Xinli was, after all, a person living in the apocalypse, and was particularly fond of cleanliness, so she had to take a bath and wipe her body every day.
It's not that I dislike how dirty it is here, but rather it's a habit and instinct.
In a post-apocalyptic battle, it's inevitable that she'll come into contact with blood, grime, and bits of flesh, which makes her unable to stand the slightly damp feeling on her body.
I broke out in a cold sweat because of the pain, and now my clothes feel sticky and uncomfortable on my body.
"I'll go boil some water for you, you wait here."
He Mingzhou considerately went downstairs to the kitchen to start a fire.
Xin Li wanted to go with them, but He Mingzhou pressed her back onto the bed with his big paw, leaving her with nothing to do but wait.
Listening to the sounds of He Mingzhou tending a fire all around her, Xin Li felt extremely bored.
Unexpectedly, this era was even more boring than the apocalypse. On a whim, she decided to take the television set out of her spatial storage.
But she thought that televisions in this era probably required cables or something, and the island didn't even have enough food, so she figured they probably didn't have those, and had to give up.
When He Mingzhou brought the water up, Xin Li still clung to her last hope and asked a question.
"Do you want to watch TV?"
Xinli nodded: "There is a TV in my dowry. If it can be watched here, we can move it out and watch it to pass the time when we have nothing to do."
He Mingzhou shook his head: "There are no power lines here."
"Actually, there used to be one, but as you know, the environment on the island is often stormy. Once the line was blown down, and no one has been able to fix it since."
When survival itself becomes a problem, these recreational facilities obviously become unimportant.
Xin Li nodded: "It's nothing, I just asked casually."
He Mingzhou stared at Xin Li for a long time: "I'll go ask around later. If anyone knows how to do it, we can make a connection."
Xin Li immediately beamed with joy: "Really?"
Seeing Xin Li's bright smile, He Mingzhou nodded and said, "But I don't know if anyone will."
Xinli waved her hand: "It's okay, it doesn't matter whether you have it or not, just go ask."
"good."
He Mingzhou kept this in mind, handed the handkerchief to Xin Li, and, thinking that Xin Li was going to take a bath, He Mingzhou lowered his eyes and dared not meet her gaze: "Call me when you're done."
Xin Li didn't think much of it. She felt every cell in her body was screaming for water, so she gave a random reply and started to take off her clothes.
He Mingzhou quickly went out.
Worried that something might happen to Xinli since she only has one leg that can move, he didn't go downstairs but sat down at the top of the stairs to wait.
I thought it would just be a matter of waiting a while, but soon I heard the sound of water dripping from inside the house.
The image of Xin Li taking a bath involuntarily popped into He Mingzhou's mind.
Realizing what he had thought, he quickly stood up and headed downstairs.
He had only taken a few steps when he heard Xin Li's exclamation from behind.
He Mingzhou's body reacted faster than his brain; he rushed back into the house and pushed open the door.
"What's wrong?"
Xin Li, who was shirtless, was surprised to see He Mingzhou return. She instinctively covered herself with a handkerchief and looked at him through the mist, asking, "Why are you here?"
He Mingzhou immediately noticed Xin Li's fair and smooth shoulders.
The water droplets still clung to her, making her look like a lotus flower emerging from clear water, so beautiful and captivating that one couldn't look away.
"I……"
He Mingzhou opened his mouth, but suddenly didn't know what to say.
Xinli smiled at him and said, "You've come at the right time. Would you like me to scrub my back?"
There's no shower here, so it's really difficult for Xinli to wipe her back with a handkerchief. She almost aggravated her foot injury when she tried to move just now, which is why she let out a soft cry.
Unexpectedly, He Mingzhou returned.
Xinli thought that since they were husband and wife, it didn't seem like a big deal to rub each other's backs.
"I'll get you a back scratcher."
He Mingzhou dared not agree to help Xin Li scrub her back. He felt a change in a certain part of his body and dared not stay any longer. He turned around and ran far away.
Not long after, he brought back a back scratcher and told Xinli to wrap a handkerchief around it, saying it would be very useful for rubbing her back.
Xinli's eyes lit up: "You're so smart!"
He Mingzhou dared not look any longer, and ran out after saying, "Call me when you're done washing."
Xin Li ignored him, took a thorough shower, changed into clean clothes, and then called He Mingzhou in.
