Chapter 45 Chapter 45 Poetry Party

Chapter 45 Chapter 45 Poetry Party

Wu Tianyue has been busy these days and is often not seen. Although Daiyu is accompanied by her sisters, she always feels a little bored.

After writing poems with my sisters today, I sent someone to ask about him as usual. I learned that he had gone out again and had not returned yet. If it was before, it would have been fine, but we haven't seen each other for more than half a month. I felt bored, so I postponed dinner and took a book to read in front of the window.

When Wu Tianyue arrived, he saw her with a slightly frown on her face, one hand supporting her cheek, the other holding a collection of poems, sitting at the desk under the window. She seemed to be concentrating, but her eyes were actually unfocused.

He raised his hand to stop the maid from paying her respects, tiptoed forward and threatened her: "What are you thinking?"

Daiyu was startled and the book in her hand fell to the table with a "bang". She looked up and saw Wu Tianyue laughing so hard that he was bent over. She stood up to hit him, but because she had been sitting for too long, her legs went numb and she leaned to the side.

Wu Tianyue quickly reached out to support her: "Did you bump into it?"

Daiyu looked up, seeing his clear eyes filled with worry. Her annoyance vanished, but she didn't want to say anything nice. So she leaned on his hand to steady herself, then shook him off and snorted, "Where were you today? You didn't even attend the poetry club."

"There's something going on at the palace. I need to go over there." Wu Tianyue reluctantly withdrew his hand. "Why didn't you eat on time today? You don't like to move around, and eating late will easily cause indigestion at night."

Daiyu was pleased to hear him show such concern for her, but she said insincerely, "I know my own health. You're away all day, and you still want to worry about when I've eaten?"

Although she was complaining, her tone was very intimate. Since the two of them had been frank with each other, Wu Tianyue really liked her acting like a spoiled child to him like this. He smiled and said, "Since you say that, sister, I will push all things aside in the future and stay at home with you all day. Don't be annoyed by that."

"Who wants you to accompany me?" Daiyu glared at him and walked out with her cheeks slightly red.

Wu Tianyue quickly put down the book in his hand and followed: "Then sister, remember to accompany me for dinner in the future."

Daiyu ignored him. Seeing that the maids had already laid out the food, she sat down at the table. Seeing that he was about to speak, she stopped him and said, "Don't talk while eating, and don't talk while sleeping."

Wu Tianyue was happy to see that the loneliness on her face was gone, so he shut up and accompanied her for dinner.

After dinner, the maids cleared away the leftovers. Daiyu sent Zijuan and the others out to eat, and sat down to rest. Suddenly, she remembered that Wu Tianyue seemed to be holding a book, so she asked, "Where is the book you brought earlier?"

Wu Tianyue chuckled, stood up, and took some books from Daiyu's desk. "I've read the books above. They're well written, full of swordplay and the joy of the martial arts world. The ones below are also good, but they're all stories of talented men and beautiful women. The protagonists in the books are connected by some small toys, and not long after, they secretly get married. One or two are fine, but they're all like this, as if the author made an appointment to buy jade rings, gold pendants, shark-fin handkerchiefs, and phoenix belts together."

Daiyu was shocked at first to see him openly bringing up such unofficial history, but then she was amused by what he said: "It's just a book, but you think too much about it."

"There are indeed many similar plots, and those items are not rare. There are at least 800, if not 1,000, in the palace treasury, and each one has an extraordinary origin." Wu Tianyue joked, "If these things were taken out, I wonder how many more stories of talented men and beautiful women would spread throughout the capital."

"Those are just gifts from others. What's so special about them?" Daiyu retorted subconsciously, "How can they compare to the gold and jade in this mansion?"

"Being born with jade in its mouth is indeed rare, but there were also people born with jade in the previous dynasty. Perhaps there are others born with jade in their mouths that we don't know about." Wu Tianyue said, "As for Miss Xue's gold, isn't the one given by the monk hard to find? I'll bring you a piece one day."

Daiyu hadn't seen him for a long time and was angry, so she wanted to refute everything he said. But when she saw that he was speaking with reason and didn't give in at all, she turned around and said, "I don't want to."

Wu Tianyue regretted his words. The Jia family had a tradition of perfect marriages, and he didn't want Daiyu and Baoyu to be linked together again. When he heard Daiyu's refusal, he said with a smile, "Those things are useless to you. Mother has a top-notch inkstone. I'll ask for it for you someday."

"Why should you ask for it? The Madam gave it to me long ago," Daiyu said angrily. "And this book? And you just took it like that? If someone saw you, you could just turn around and run away, but what would I do?"

"I've had the outer cover and the front and back pages replaced, so it won't be a problem." Wu Tianyue explained, "Besides, Lu Chen knows martial arts, so you can just give it to her. She can just find a beam to hide it."

Daiyu snorted, "There are rumors about everything in this garden. If we were seen, we wouldn't have time to hide."

Wu Tianyue hadn't expected the Jia residence to be so unbearable, and he couldn't bring himself to speak ill of her maternal grandparents in front of her. He frowned and thought for a long time before saying, "I'll tell my mother that you should stay at the prince's residence for a while every month."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Daiyu glared at him. "I'm leaving my maternal grandparents' home and going to live with someone else. What's wrong with that?"

This was indeed inappropriate. Wu Tianyue sighed and put the book away again: "I have someone bring it to you every day. You can take it away after you finish reading it. Don't worry, I will keep my mouth shut."

Before Daiyu could say anything, Nanny Wang came in and said with a smile, "It's getting late, young lady, you should rest."

Although he was speaking to Daiyu, his eyes were glancing at Wu Tianyue.

Wu Tianyue understood and said to Daiyu, "I know about the poetry club. Thank you for your guidance, sister."

He had not been here for long when he was about to leave. Daiyu was very reluctant to let him go, but Nanny Wang was staring at her, so she had to stand up and say goodbye to him.

Wu Tianyue knew she was unhappy from her expression, and whispered as he bent down to pick up the book, "I'll be done with this in a few days, and then I'll take you out to play."

Then, while Nanny Wang wasn't noticing, he ruffled Daiyu's bun and straightened up before she could glare at him. "I'll be leaving now. Thank you for the book, sister. You don't have to see me off. Go to bed early."

After saying this, he pretended not to see Daiyu's embarrassed and angry look and left with the book.

The next afternoon, Shi Xiangyun, whom Baoyu had urged Lady Jia to pick up, arrived.

Tanchun and others wanted to tell her about the poetry club, but they heard that Wu Tianyue was in the yard today. They had just received a gift from him yesterday, so it was not easy to ignore him, so they hurriedly asked someone to invite him over.

When Wu Tianyue arrived, Xiangyun already knew the whole story and was just about to write a poem based on the rhyme of the poem.

Seeing him coming, Li Wan smiled and tried to smooth things over, "Your Highness, you came because of something. That's understandable. There's no need to punish him by writing a poem to honor the host. Just look at the poems from yesterday. If you're in the mood, you can write one or two."

Daiyu noticed that everyone treated Wu Tianyue very coldly and was worried that he would feel isolated. She smiled and said, "He's always late, just like Yun Yatou, whether he's busy or not. And he even accepted the flowery note from Tan Yatou's hair. It's impossible for him to get away with it without Yun Yatou being punished."

"Thank you for your help, sister-in-law. But since we both missed the first poetry club, we must be punished together." Wu Tianyue smiled and thanked Li Wan, then replied to Daiyu, "Bring me your rhymes. Although I'm not as talented as you, I can still try to compose a couple of poems to complement you."

Seeing him so easygoing, everyone felt relieved, especially the cheerful Xiangyun. Seeing that he was not as difficult to get along with as she had imagined, she hurriedly told him the rhyme of the poem.

Wu Tianyue had already made up his mind after hearing this, but after spending a few years with Daiyu, he also knew that these women were talented poets. He was afraid that if he wrote first, Xiangyun would surpass him because of her status. So he smiled and said, "I still need time. Why don't you write it first, Miss Shi?"

Xiangyun didn't know what he was thinking. She just thought he really couldn't write. She had only two poems in mind, so she wanted to buy him some time, so she wrote down another one on paper.

Daiyu, Baochai and Tanchun saw it. Baochai and Tanchun were okay, they just smiled and said nothing. Daiyu glanced at him sideways and nodded, with a look of both admiration and sarcasm.

Wu Tianyue saw that Daiyu's eyes were not right, and wanted to explain, but it was difficult to speak in front of everyone. Seeing that Xiangyun had almost finished writing, he hurriedly said, "I have it too."

A little girl had already brought paper and pen, and Wu Tianyue casually wrote out: "I just wrote these two poems to fulfill your request, you can just have a laugh at them."

"Your Highness is joking." Everyone said this and took Wu Tianyue's to look at first. Xiangyun also squeezed over to take a look. She felt that although it was not as good as her own, many sentences were also amazing.

Daiyu took Xiangyun's first and read it, praising every word she read.

Wu Tianyue glanced at the poem in her hand and sighed, "I should have come yesterday."

Daiyu looked at him with a smile: "Why? Yun girl did it better than you, so we can't do it as well as you?"

"There are so many people and so many poems. Everyone is discussing your own poems, so who would care about mine?" Wu Tianyue sighed. "It's like today. I can't even be the green leaves beside the red flowers. I'm only fit to be the mud at the flower's roots."

As soon as these words were spoken, even Baoyu, who was feeling depressed because of seeing him being so intimate with Daiyu, couldn't help laughing.

After laughing for a while, the others took Xiangyun's poem and looked at it again. They praised it and said with a smile: "This is worthy of being called a Begonia poem! We really should start a 'Begonia Society'."

Xiangyun said with a smile, "You just said you'd punish me by making me host. Why don't you let me invite the whole club tomorrow?"

Everyone said it was good.

Seeing Wu Tianyue smiling and silent beside her, Daiyu snorted, "You didn't come yesterday. You're not as self-aware as others."

Wu Tianyue heard this and laughed, "Then I should punish the host as well?"

"That's perfect." The two were just chatting, but Li Wan listened, thinking that he was the Crown Prince after all, and it would be hard to leave him alone, so she agreed, "But holding three clubs in a row is too frequent, which is not good either. Why not have the Crown Prince and Yun girl invite this club together tomorrow?"

The others also said that this was better.

Daiyu said that because she hadn't seen Wu Tianyue for a long time. When she saw him today, she wanted to talk more and forgot herself for a moment. When she heard everyone's decision, she secretly regretted putting the two of them together, but she couldn't refute it, so she just pursed her lips and said nothing.

Seeing that she was not in a good mood, Wu Tianyue stepped forward and wanted to talk to her, but Daiyu did not look at him. She and the others took out yesterday's poem to ask Xiangyun to appreciate and comment on it.

Wu Tianyue had no choice but to go over and take a look. After reading the first few poems from yesterday, he was amazed at the implicit and profound poems written by Baochai, but he loved the elegant and unique poems written by Daiyu even more, so he kept reading them silently.

Daiyu had been very uncomfortable when she heard that he wanted to invite Xiangyun to join the club, and that it was because of her own hasty decision. But now seeing him like this, her heart began to sweeten.

Soon, everyone finished appreciating and commenting. Jia's mother sent someone to call Xiangyun, and everyone dispersed.

Wu Tianyue observed Daiyu's expression and said to Xiangyun, "I am not very proficient in poetry, and there are some things going on in the mansion recently. I can only ask you to come up with a topic for the poem."

Xiangyun was very understanding and agreed quickly. After discussing with Baochai in the evening, she ordered her maid Cuilu to go to Yihongyuan to tell Wu Tianyue.
