Before even entering their assigned housing, the newly arrived female educated youth eagerly chased after the village women, peppering them with questions. They left their luggage outside the brigade headquarters, then walked in together to complete their joining procedures with the village head, who was also the temporary production team leader. Once the paperwork was complete, they were led to their respective houses by militia member Dongzi.
The old village chief has always been fair and just in his work. He distributes each newly arrived educated youth evenly to different teams. In this way, no one will complain and unnecessary disputes and disagreements are avoided.
However, Guanjia Village has yet to elect a team leader, which is precisely what Jiang Huashu intended. Those who believe they are capable of the position are now pulling out all the stops to vie for it. It's like the carrot dangling in front of a mule, tempting everyone to keep pushing forward, yet always elusive.
Clearly, the beneficiaries were the villagers. They emulated Jiang Huashu's style of work, actively engaging in charitable activities and good deeds. Under Jiang Huashu's leadership and the support of his followers, the overall village atmosphere became exceptionally positive. These people knew that if they didn't, they wouldn't be able to rise to the position of commune director, as Director Jiang had done, through good deeds and practical work.
After packing their clothes and luggage, the educated youth began to wander the village. No one restrained or controlled them, allowing them to wander freely. However, these educated youth had no idea that the arduous agricultural labor that awaited them would soon begin. Would they still have the energy to wander around as they did now?
The educated youth were filled with intense curiosity about everything in Guanjia Village. After all, the scene here was vastly different from their traditional image of a rural village. In their imagination, a rural village would be dusty and littered with chicken and duck droppings; the villagers would be sallow and thin, malnourished due to a lack of food; and their eyes would be timid and intimidated, as if they had never seen outsiders before, filled with curiosity.
However, the Guanjia Village they found before them completely defied their expectations. The roads were pristine, with not even a trace of chicken, duck, or goose droppings to be found, let alone any extra pebbles. Public restrooms were located every few hundred meters, each with a wash basin at the entrance, providing a convenient alternative for those who needed to use it. Everyone diligently scooped up water to wash their hands, maintaining good hygiene. The blackboard next to the restrooms was filled with inspiring messages and beautiful illustrations, inviting pause for thought.
Though dressed simply, the villagers were vibrant and energetic. Their faces shone with energy and joy. This joy seemed a silent tribute to the beauty of their current lives, a true expression of their inner contentment. Their expressions revealed a genuine love and appreciation for life. Each seemed to incorporate this contentment into the details of their daily lives in their own unique way. Their gazes revealed a confidence and resolve, devoid of any fear of strangers. These differences both amazed and excited the educated youth, and sparked their desire to learn more about this unique village.
