Chapter 311 Meeting a "Fellow Villager"

Jiang Huashu rode his bicycle along a bumpy road, passing through potholes, and finally arrived at this remote village.

Upon taking over as head of the county government, Jiang Huashu visited every region of the county, documenting every village's topography, local customs, population, and local specialties. Acknowledging the suffering and hardships brought by poverty, he devised a comprehensive poverty alleviation plan, hoping to improve living conditions in every village. However, over time, he gradually discovered that several villages within the commune were not as cooperative as he had hoped. Despite his efforts, the villagers seemed unappreciative and even resisted the leadership of the team leader.

The team leader complained to the commune, who then had to complain to Jiang Huashu. Faced with this situation, Jiang Huashu felt deeply disappointed and helpless. Consequently, he was forced to lock his once carefully planned poverty alleviation plans in a drawer, letting them gradually gather dust. After all, if the people in a place are unwilling to accept help, then no amount of effort will be effective. All of this presupposes that the other party is worthy of the effort. If, after contact, it turns out that it is not worth it, then there is no need to waste time and energy; it is better to let go and let others try.

Pushing his bicycle into the village, thinking about all this and looking at the overall appearance of the village, Jiang Huashu felt particularly sorry.

Every village has its own United Nations death squad, and their strongholds are usually under big trees. Just look around and find the biggest and tallest tree in the village, and go there.

When we got to the big tree, we saw the whole team gathered there. We politely greeted the elderly people and started chatting with them.

The villagers were quite hostile to outsiders, and it wasn't easy to find out the village secrets. So Jiang Huashu asked around, which was always a good idea.

He asked about a man who had come from a big city in the village and was quite impressive. Once the topic was opened, people began to answer questions freely.

Jiang Huashu sorted out a few useful pieces of information from the vast amount of useless information he'd collected: This man, Zhang Xiaobao, was fifty-five years old. He had gone to Kyoto to work during the Republican era and returned three years ago. He was alone, saying his children had stayed in Kyoto, but none of them had come to see him in over three years. When he returned, people thought he was mentally unstable. He was constantly talking nonsense, talking about flying chickens and incredibly tall iron. He was simply a fool.

Jiang Huashu concluded that this person knew about airplanes and high-speed trains, so he must have traveled through time. But why was he here? And was he acting crazy? How could a crazy person write to him? He had to find out quickly.

After asking the people from the United Nations Death Squad where this person lived, Jiang Huashu hurried to this house.

When they arrived at the door, they found it shut tight, and the weeds at the door were half a man tall and no one had cleared them away. The people in the waiting-to-die squad said that the old man didn't usually come out, and only came out when he ran out of food.

He walked up and knocked on the door, but no one responded.

Seeing that there was no one around, I could only enter the yard from the top of the wall. After setting up my bike and climbing into the yard, I saw that the weeds in the yard were even taller, as if no one had lived here for years.

He walked from the yard to the door of the main house and knocked on it, and the door was locked from the inside.
