After checking the house number and confirming the address was correct, the stranger looked at Li Yichen and asked, "Is this Li Chengfeng's house?"
Sure enough, when Li Yichen saw these people, he guessed that they might be looking for his second grandfather.
"Yes, he is staying here temporarily. What can I do with him?"
"Look, three months ago, Li Chengfeng borrowed some money from us. The repayment is due today, so we're here to see him about the repayment."
Upon hearing this, Li Yichen stepped aside and let the strange men into the yard. It was really not a good look to have them blocking the door during the New Year.
After entering the yard, the strange men looked very polite and did not look around. Although they were loan sharks, Li Yichen felt that their character was good and well-behaved.
After calling out "Second Grandpa" twice in the yard, he asked these people to sit down at the stone table in the yard and wait for Second Grandpa to come out of bed.
Li Chengfeng was startled by the noise outside, and his sleepiness instantly vanished. He knew something was wrong. Who would come to his house at this time of year, during Chinese New Year? He felt uneasy, but he quickly put on his clothes and walked quickly to the yard.
"Yi Chen, what's wrong? Why are you here so early?" After waiting for about a quarter of an hour, Li Chengfeng finally came out of the house, sleepy-eyed. He was wearing a somewhat worn cotton-padded jacket, his hair was disheveled, and he looked like he hadn't woken up yet. He yawned as he walked, clearly still asleep. Seeing a few strangers in the yard, he was stunned for a moment, then recognized them as debt collectors.
Li Yichen pointed at the strange men sitting at the table and said softly, "Second Grandpa, they are here to see you."
"Oh, you are here. Please come in. Please come in." Although Li Chengfeng said polite words, there was no welcoming look on his face. It was obvious that he did not have a good impression of these loan sharks.
The stranger stood up and politely handed over a receipt: "Li Chengfeng, this is the money you borrowed from us three months ago. The repayment is due today. Please confirm it."
Li Chengfeng took the receipt, glanced at the amount on it, and his face suddenly turned a little ugly. He smacked his lips and said awkwardly, "Oh, this... I'm really short of money. Can you give me a few more days?"
The stranger shook his head. "Mr. Li, we understand your difficulties, but the rules are the rules. Today is the deadline for repayment. If you cannot repay on time, we can only deal with it according to the terms of the contract."
When Li Chengfeng heard this, his brows furrowed, as if he remembered something terrible, and he trembled with fear.
"Li Chengfeng, you borrowed some money from us three months ago. Today is the repayment day, so we came to you to handle the repayment matters." The strange man politely explained again, with a hint of threat in his voice.
Li Chengfeng knew this was the last face the loan shark had given him, and he also knew he couldn't possibly pay it back. What was he supposed to do now? He knew he couldn't escape this time, but he also knew that if he didn't pay back the money, not only would the interest compound, but, most importantly, it could cost someone their life.
Li Chengfeng sighed helplessly, "I really don't have any money right now, can you give me some more time?"
The strangers looked at each other, and one of them said, "Li Chengfeng, we're also following the rules. How about this, for your brother's sake, we'll give you one more day. We'll come back at this time tomorrow. If you still can't pay, don't blame us for being rude."
