Back at Fifth Grandpa's house, my parents had been incredibly busy these past few days. They'd come home to eat, lie down, and sleep, and Shui Shui hadn't asked if they could enter their lab. That afternoon, she finally caught up with Professor Dong, who had just had some free time. She shared her idea with him, and he readily agreed, saying it would be great if they could enter the lab, too.
This means that in this era, there is an extra layer of protection.
I closed the main room door and went to the west room. I fell asleep and let my mother feel it with her consciousness. Professor Dong closed his eyes, sat cross-legged on the kang, and was almost asleep, but there was no movement.
"I can't feel anything at all. It seems that you are the only one who can enter the space." Professor Dong said regretfully.
"Try again, I feel like you can get in!" Shui Shui encouraged her.
Professor Dong closed his eyes again and tried to imagine what his home looked like, but it still didn't work.
"Could it be that the space needs to be upgraded?"
"Upgrade? You think you're playing a game!"
"Some novels say that the space needs to be upgraded. Originally, it was small, but after the upgrade, it became larger, and people could enter and exit it, and it could store a lot of items. With further upgrades, it could hold living things, people could live in it, and even farm in it. There's a spiritual spring, and drinking it can make people rejuvenate and strong."
My mother covered her mouth and laughed out loud: "You are really good at talking!"
"We can all travel through time, so what can't we talk about?"
"That's true."
"According to my analysis, it's probably because the food and vegetables we sold in the county town a few days ago benefited the people, so the space was upgraded. At first, there was only the kitchen, and I sold the food. Then other rooms appeared and I could go in and bring things in."
Professor Dong listened, analyzed and nodded.
"Then Dad will probably get a level up after helping the lonely elderly this time. After the level up, you should be able to enter."
"Let's wait a few more days to see if this is the reason. It will be easier to deal with once we find the pattern."
After two weeks of hard work, all the dilapidated houses were renovated. Not only were the houses repaired, but the blocked kangs were also renovated, the leaky windows were fixed, and everything that needed repairing was done. When the elderly were taken back to their homes, they were moved to tears by the sight of their newly renovated houses and kangs. Some even knelt before the village chief, Fifth Grandpa, and his men, frightening them so much that they kept a distance.
After the house was finished, it was time for the most exciting work-for-food exchange. Each worker was entitled to 5 jin (100g) of food per day, with team leaders receiving an additional jin (100g) and honorary consultants receiving 4 jin (100g) per day. Over a two-week construction period, each person could earn 75 jin (100g) of food. This winter was a relief!
After the food was distributed, everyone cheered and jumped for joy, carrying the food back home.
At night, the trio waited until Xingxing fell asleep, and took the time to test whether the experimental space had been upgraded and whether people could enter.
Professor Dong was still sitting cross-legged on the kang, contemplating his modern home. Suddenly, he was gone. Shui Shui covered her mouth with excitement. "It's done! I can get in!"
Shui Shui quickly followed into the space and saw her mother sitting on the floor in the living room. "Mom, think about where you're going before you come in. The place you enter is where you want to be."
"Understood."
As he was talking, Guan's father came in. Same posture, same position.
Shui Shui explained the entry and exit rules to his dad again.
The two of them practiced entering and exiting the living room a few times, and then saw Dad appear in one second, and then disappear in the next second. Then Mom appeared in the next second, and then disappeared again. Fortunately, Shui Shui knew what was going on, otherwise he would be scared to death.
