Chapter 70 It depends on who loses patience

At Fifth Grandfather's house in the village, the old man and Guan Huashu waited until dawn, but Suihe still hadn't returned. They presumably took him back to the Public Security Bureau, where they needed his assistance. Professor Dong hadn't slept much that night, and she found it strange that her husband cared deeply for Suihe, just as he cared for Shuishui and Xingxing.

I got up early, cut some fennel, and took a piece of pork belly from the wooden barrel hanging above the cool well water. I chopped it up and prepared to make dumplings for Suihe to eat when he came back.

After waking up, I went to the backyard to see the experimental field she planted.

Since moving to her fifth grandfather's house after the family split, Guan Shuishui has been trying hard to act like a 13-year-old girl in front of the villagers. However, the planting project she's currently researching is something that other children her age can't accomplish.

Fifth Grandpa had a private plot behind his house, where he used to grow vegetables for his own consumption. Ever since Shuishui arrived, and the spring thaw had begun, the little girl had taken over the plot and started working with Xingxing on growing fruit.

They started with strawberry and cherry seeds they'd "accidentally discovered" in the mountains, growing seedlings in cardboard boxes and then transplanting them into their own plots. The two girls were so busy every day, as soon as they got home from school, they'd drop their bags and rush to the back of the house. It was said that Shui Shui had even read the newspapers taped to the roof, advising on planting wisely and conserving soil moisture. I don't know why she was so vocal about it.

The strawberries planted in June are ripe. The red fruits are not big, and they taste sweet and sour and soft. They can be eaten by both the elderly and children.

The first two batches, except for some left for food, were sold to the county government under the name Guan Huashu. Because they were so rare and unique, they fetched a hefty price. Grandpa Wu's beard bristled when he heard the price. And surprisingly, these two kids actually managed to make something out of it.

Guan Huashu told Grandpa Wu that he planned to use the remote land to grow fruit on a large scale in the village next year to increase the villagers' income.

Xingxing's sister's little tail has been in school for more than half a year. The child is 9 years old and has never attended school for a single day. The Guan family is committing a sin!

When nine-year-old Xingxing first started school, she stood out among a group of seven-year-olds. Shuishui taught her every night, and after about a month, she had mastered all the first-grade material. He then taught her second grade, and now she's in the second semester of third grade. Xingxing also passed the exam and advanced to third grade. Professor Dong urged her not to force her, but to stay in the class her age deserves. Unexpectedly, the little girl's brain has exploded. Less than a month into third grade, she's already mastered all the material from both semesters. A strong youth makes a strong nation, so why bother? Shuishui is continuing with her through the fourth-grade curriculum.

Professor Dong's pickle factory and hand-woven weaving factory have also been busy for the past six months. These two factories produce finished products quickly, and monthly wages are paid. This has immediately improved living conditions for the villagers. They now have more food to eat, and their physical fitness has improved. Although they still work tirelessly in the fields every day, the number of villagers suffering from illness has decreased significantly compared to the previous two years.

Let’s talk about catching the spy again. Suihe arrived at the village at dusk. Guan Huashu’s family had finished their meal. Seeing Suihe coming back, the whole family got busy and quickly prepared food for the children.

Suihe is a child who lacks love very much. He likes the atmosphere in Fifth Grandpa's house very much and feels that he is also a member of the family in this environment.

If you were to ask about the recent happenings in the village, people who weren't paying attention would just go about their daily lives as usual, not noticing anything unusual. But those who were attentive could discover a lot.

Zhang Zhiqing had suddenly vanished. He hadn't been seen since he went for a run last night. He was sure to be discovered by someone with ulterior motives when he went to work today. With his subordinate missing, this person would surely find a way to go up the mountain and check if the weapons were safe.

Now it’s a test of patience to see who loses patience.
