Chapter 34
Yingxiang glanced at Wenshi, then lowered her head.
She had considered having children, but the two of them hadn't yet. To put it optimistically, it just meant that their time hadn't come.
Wen Shi stared intently at his wife, a vague unease creeping into his heart.
We've been married for quite some time now.
Marriage and having children are things that Wen Shi considers essential in life. He has already accomplished the first two, and his greatest fortune is that he has found a virtuous wife.
But the matter of having offspring remains unresolved, and although he hasn't said it aloud, he's been thinking about it constantly.
"I know that, but I am very healthy."
After Yingxiang finished speaking, she blinked, looking somewhat playful. Wen Shi smiled, picked her up, and strode towards the bed.
"Then I'll try my best, and we'll become parents soon."
Hearing this, Wen Shi was visibly happy, and the two embraced. As the saying goes, "Man proposes, God disposes."
They all believed in this principle.
Just as Yingxiang's red bodice was about to be torn off, and the two were panting heavily, Yingxiang suddenly felt nauseous for some reason, and the next second, she gagged.
Wen Shi's eyes were filled with desire, but he wasn't completely lost in it yet. He keenly noticed that his wife seemed a little uncomfortable, so he immediately changed his position, held her in his arms, and looked worried.
"What's wrong?"
"Maybe dinner was too delicious, I ate too much and I'm too full."
Leaning against his strong chest, Yingxiang said somewhat uncertainly.
The dishes tonight were indeed quite good. Wen Shi nodded, then subconsciously glanced at his wife's lower abdomen.
Spring colors fill the air, and the indoor space is soon filled with pleasant scenery.
The next morning, Yingxiang got up to eat, but she looked rather unwell and listless. She put the steamed egg custard in front of her wife.
"Eat."
"I won't go to the shop today."
Xiuyu has arrived, so there's no shortage of manpower. Besides, Yingxiang has long intended to give the shop away.
"Oh, right, husband, I forgot yesterday. Today after school, go to the shop and tell our parents that I won't be going anymore and that the shop will be given to the family."
They assumed she was just tired last night and didn't think much of it when they smelled it. As for Yingxiang, they didn't take the discomfort too seriously either. After all, everyone gets sick sometimes.
After working hard for several months, she deserves a long vacation and a good rest.
After Wen Shi left, Ying Xiang returned to her room. She closed the door and went to the box where she kept her money. During this time, they had been making money, and the two of them had never run out of money.
Even after becoming a scholar, Wen Shi still made money by copying books and writing letters for others.
She wasn't idle either; her savings kept increasing. She carefully counted them, and including what the system had given her before, she had less than fifty taels of silver in total.
This is no small sum of money; it's enough to do many things in the county, at least enough to buy a small courtyard with a few rooms.
They don't need it right now, and Yingxiang doesn't want to cause trouble for herself; she wants to use this money to make more money.
Looking at the gleaming silver, she thought of money shops. Ancient money shops were similar to modern banks, where money could be deposited. But she decided to leave the small amount of money in her hands.
Yingxiang packed up the box, lay down on the bed, her back and legs aching. But what was she going to do next?
This is the most important thing. Although the man is good, she has to leave herself a way out. Money is always useful.
In a daze, Yingxiang suddenly remembered to sign in.
The next second, she immediately sat up and silently checked in. She usually came back in the afternoon, but she came back earlier today. She wondered if the system would give her a surprise.
"Hello host, is there anything you need?"
The electronic voice rang in her mind, and for a moment, Yingxiang was completely stunned. It wasn't like she had never dealt with this system before; she always silently gave things to it.
She had been thinking that if she were given a hamburger or a meat sandwich, she could skip lunch and still enjoy her meal.
I didn't expect things to be so amazing today. I even asked her what she needed.
Yingxiang was instantly pleasantly surprised. Without much hesitation, she said, "One thousand taels of silver."
Tens of thousands of taels is definitely unrealistic, and the system might not give it to you, but a thousand taels might be possible.
She just wants money. With money, she won't have to work so hard. She couldn't relax in her past life, but if she could in this life, she would wake up laughing in her dreams.
The time travel trope is already quite melodramatic, but what's even more distressing is that when she first arrived, she was at the very bottom of society, with absolutely no status.
Everyone else is a princess or a noblewoman, or at the very least, a concubine's daughter from a wealthy family. Why didn't she have such good luck? She started out as an ordinary peasant girl.
"no."
"Then why are you asking me?"
The cold, electronic voice rejected Yingxiang without hesitation. The next second, she lay back down on the couch, looking somewhat disappointed. She really thought she could get whatever she wanted.
"Ask the host for his opinion."
"Give me money, or better yet, bury me in money, I'll be grateful."
Yingxiang said calmly.
"Does the system have a shop? Can I go in and choose items myself later?"
Yingxiang, settling for second best, suddenly said, "If we could choose from the system store for free, that would be pretty good too."
"Can."
Just when Yingxiang thought the system was going to reject her, it agreed without hesitation the next second, and she was instantly in a great mood.
"I don't want any points redemption; I want a real reward that I can choose any one of every day."
"Upon inspection, the host has adapted well to the Great Qi Dynasty and is making an effort to live. The system can grant you this permission to choose freely as a reward."
The next second, the store option suddenly appeared in Yingxiang's mind. She silently recited it, and soon she was shocked to find that there were so many items.
She quickly swiped through the items with her mind, seeing things to eat and use, both ancient and modern. Even when she saw a few things she liked, she resisted the urge to buy them. However, she kept seeing more and more things appearing afterward.
Half an hour later, Yingxiang was a little tired and felt like she couldn't finish flipping through the pages.
"A protective bracelet? What is that?"
Soon, a pure white jade hairpin without any impurities caught Yingxiang's attention. Sometimes, she thought her system was truly amazing.
"This protective bracelet is made of white jade. It is warm and gentle on the body and is very beneficial to the wearer, promoting blood circulation."
Suddenly, another electronic voice rang out. Yingxiang understood what it meant and her eyes widened instantly.
"Is my system really that powerful? It feels like a magical artifact from a fantasy novel."
"Could there really be gods in heaven? Waaah, System, can I cultivate myself into an immortal here?"
As Yingxiang spoke, she suddenly became a little excited. It seemed like it would be nice to experience being a deity. She had read some novels before, where people would travel into fantasy worlds and cultivate to become immortals, and all sorts of amazing things would happen.
"Host, don't overthink it. This is just an ordinary dynasty. Here, you are an ordinary person. There are no gods or immortals. Just live your life well."
Another bucket of cold water was poured on her. Yingxiang coughed dryly. She had originally wanted a few egg tarts, since she hadn't had them in a long time, but now that she looked at them, these were the best.
She chose a protective bracelet, and the next second, the bracelet from the store appeared on her wrist, the perfect size.
His wrists were always bare before, but now that they have this, it doesn't seem so bad.
The commotion lasted until late at night, but Yingxiang quickly fell into a deep sleep. Before falling asleep, she was still thinking about how this protective bracelet could protect her.
In the shop on the other side, Liu was busy collecting payments. Yingxiang didn't come, but the eldest daughter-in-law was also able to help.
Xiuyu was exhausted from running around and didn't want to continue, but Liu told her that if she didn't want to work, she could go home.
Helpless, she could only run back and forth, while the others were used to it.
At noon, she finally had time to rest. She sat down to the side, feeling quite tired.
"Why hasn't my third sister-in-law arrived yet?"
Xiuyu took the initiative to speak, but no one paid attention to her, and Old Man Wen didn't say a word, which made her a little annoyed.
What angered her even more was Wen Chuanzong's ruthlessness. He had better not come back, otherwise, she would fight to the death to make him suffer.
The respectable life of a scholar's wife is gone, and now she's just like any other waiter outside. Xiuyu feels a great sense of loss. What makes her even angrier is that Yingxiang stops coming as soon as she arrives.
The thought that she was doing the work for her made her even angrier.
In the afternoon, Wen Shi came to the shop. Old Man Wen and Mrs. Liu looked at him with some confusion.
He never came before, except for yesterday when we had dinner together. I didn't expect him to come today, and he looked so serious.
"Fourth brother, close the door. I have something to say to our parents."
"good."
Without much thought, Wen Lao Si and his family sat down together. Wen Shi said, "Now that the business has stabilized and everyone is familiar with each other, this shop will be yours. You will be responsible for the rent and purchases yourself. As for the profits, they will be split equally among everyone, just like before."
"Father, what do you think?"
After careful consideration, Old Man Wen realized there was actually no problem. It was great. Although Yingxiang paid them wages in the past, she also took some of it.
Liu was a little puzzled, but since it was said to be given to them, they must have made a profit.
"I have no objection. What about you guys? And third brother, does your wife agree?"
Looking at Wen Shi, Old Man Wen realized it was a shop that could make money. Ying Xiang never did any dirty or tiring work. Could she really let go of her like that?
Wen Shishi suddenly remembered what Yingxiang had told him before, that he should learn from his older brother's methods in front of his parents, methods that might not be good, but were useful.
“Father, this is the Wen family. You are in charge, and I am in charge.”
Upon hearing this, Old Man Wen nodded without hesitation, agreeing wholeheartedly. The shop was the family's livelihood, and Liu was delighted to hear this.
Deep down, she was also afraid that Yingxiang, being disobedient, would completely control her son.
"Then it's settled."
Old Man Wen didn't take his other sons too seriously.
"Yingxiang will not come again."
"Alright, let her take good care of you. You've worked hard studying, and now your family has a business to make a living. Don't copy books to earn money; take a break when you have free time."
Wen Shi didn't say anything, got up and left. On his way home, a cold wind blew. He looked up at the clear blue sky and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. At least this matter was resolved.
As for what Yingxiang will do in the future, she will consider it herself. Even if she does nothing, he is willing to support her and let her manage the family's money.
Wen returned home with a relaxed expression, feeling very happy as he thought of his wife.
