Chapter 1: Walking and Getting Rich

The setting sun falls on the cobblestone road.

Su Xiaoqi walked on the cobblestone road with her head down. There were two small shops on the side of the road. No matter what time it was, there were always some people sitting idly in the shops. She walked over quickly, trying not to look at the roadside, for fear that someone would say hello to her.

As she was almost home, she raised her head slightly and walked a little more briskly.

But she didn't expect a middle-aged man carrying a hoe to come towards her. When he saw her, he didn't wait for her to greet him and started shouting, "Hey, Su Quezi's daughter is back. Someone said you went to get the notice. Did you get it?"

Su Xiaoqi's face quickly turned red.

She didn't like people calling her father Su Guizi, although the villagers might not have much ill intention and just gave her such a nickname, but she didn't like it.

"Hello Uncle Li, I got it."

"That's amazing! You are the first college student in our village." The man spoke in a loud voice, put down the hoe on his shoulder, and looked like he wanted to chat for a while in the middle of the road.

Xiao Qi felt very embarrassed, afraid that he would chat with her, so she quickly said, "I still have work to do at home, Uncle Li, I'm going back first."

As he spoke, he walked towards home without looking back, practically running.

She didn't want to show off at all. Although she was the only one in the village who went to a key high school, her college entrance examination score was only 42 points higher than the second-tier line, and 6 points away from the first-tier line. She was not admitted to any of the schools she applied for and was transferred to a second-tier private university. The tuition fee written on the admission notice was more than three times that of a normal university. Her family could not afford it at all.

Listening behind her, she heard that several people had gathered around Uncle Li. The college student from the lame family was amazing... She felt even more ashamed when she heard all kinds of voices.

Her father was one of the few educated people in the village who had attended junior high school. However, he had difficulty walking, his right leg was shorter, and he walked with a limp. He was also short, and his strength was at a disadvantage when working in the countryside. Moreover, she was the only girl in the family, so in the eyes of some people, the family was extinct.

Fortunately, she had good grades and attended a key high school in the city. Her parents have always been very proud of her.

When others say he has no son, Su's father will naively reply, "My daughter is very well behaved."

Mother Su, on the other hand, has a more aggressive personality and would shout back: "My little Qi is well-educated and capable. He will enjoy a better life than my son in the future."

But this time, her college entrance examination score was not even up to the first-tier line, which was much worse than her usual score.

She ran home in a panic.

I was panting after running a few steps.

After receiving the admission letter, Su's father did not go out to show off as usual. He just looked at the letter and chopped wood in the yard in silence.

Su's mother was cutting wild vegetables in the backyard. She chopped the vegetables and put them into the pot to cook. The family raised three pigs, and Su's mother took good care of them. She originally wanted to sell the three pigs before her children went to college so that she could raise enough money to pay for their tuition and college expenses.

My parents are farmers, they have no salary and no fixed income.

I just wanted to raise more pigs to sell for money.

But right now, the tuition fee is more than 10,000 yuan per semester, and Su's father can't earn that much money in a year.

Adding living expenses, where does the money come from?

After Su Xiaoqi got home, she looked at her parents and wanted to help, but was sent back to her room.

"Go back and study. Don't slack off even when you go to college." said Su's father.

At this moment, Su Xiaoqi felt her eyes turn red and tears almost fell.

Although she grew up in the countryside, she hardly ever did any heavy work.

She often so-called reads, sometimes even some novels or extracurricular books, but her parents think it is very important and they are happy to see their daughter reading.

"Or I'll go repeat the year!" The words rolled on her tongue several times but never came out.

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

She doesn't want to repeat the year.

She was scared, she was fed up with what she saw.

Mr. Su is a good-natured man with a lame body. He always helps others with their work and is often laughed at in the village. His pride and face are all maintained because of his daughter's education.

When she went to repeat a grade, none of this mattered. She thought about how the villagers would laugh at her parents.

But her family didn't have that much money for tuition.

Compared to not having money, everything I experienced at school yesterday seemed like child's play.

In her senior year of high school, she and a boy in her class had a crush on each other. They did homework and reviewed together. They would smile when they saw each other and miss each other when they were not together.

Both of them had good academic performance, and the teacher didn't say anything, because students of this age will probably become more rebellious the more they are stopped.

She and the boy agreed to apply to the same university, Beijing Normal University.

She went to get her admission letter yesterday and found out that he passed but she didn't.

We didn’t even say anything and didn’t leave any contact information. I guess we won’t meet again in the future.

She returned to her bedroom, her own separate bedroom. There was no glass installed because they had not had much money left after the frame was built. Plastic sheets were pasted on the windows. The room was very stuffy in the summer, and she lay on the bed.

There is a small mirror at the head of the bed, bought from a two-dollar store.

Blue.

She opened the mirror and saw a little girl with an oval face, fair skin, black hair and big black-framed glasses.

This is her.

He has a pretty face, but seems a bit out of place compared to the other people in the village.

She also heard people mocking her for being aloof.

She didn't.

She just didn't know how to deal with the villagers after she went to school.

Now, she doesn't know what her future will be like.

Should I go to this university or repeat my studies?

She fell asleep in a daze and woke up covered in sweat. There were no glass windows, let alone air conditioning.

When she heard her mother calling her for dinner, she went downstairs.

During dinner, she pretended to be casual and said, "Mom and Dad, why don't I go back to repeat the year? I guess I didn't perform well this time."

Dad didn't speak immediately.

Mom picked up a piece of food for herself with her chopsticks.

"Go to college and don't repeat. I called someone and asked them. Your university has a very high employment rate. Even if the tuition is a little higher, you can borrow some money. Think of a way. You don't have to worry about the money."

These words were said by my father, who always seemed cowardly and indecisive.

The sound was not loud, and it was a bit muffled due to the rice in his mouth.

Su Xiaoqi hummed.

I lowered my head and ate my meal, tears rolling down my face again.

The rice with tears in it was a bit salty. As she was eating, a voice suddenly rang in her ears.

"Host match detected, binding with host, binding successful. Congratulations to the host for successfully binding to the first-level advancement system. This system is a lifelong system. The binding will be released upon the host's death. The host will receive 0.1 yuan for each step taken, capped at 10,000 steps."

Su Xiaoqi was stunned for a moment, then used her freshly-qualified brain to calculate: walking 10,000 steps a day would earn her 1,000 yuan? Was she crazy, obsessed with money?

"Mom and Dad, did you hear anything?"

My parents were holding their bowls and were a little puzzled because there was no sound.

"Don't make any noise. Eat, eat. After eating, go out for a walk or play with your classmates. Don't stay in the house all the time." Su's mother said.
