Chapter 34
Zhu Yu was completely unaware of the online uproar because she was wearing a dress without a bag and had her phone in Shi Ru's suit pocket.
Shi Ru took advantage of the opportunity to go to the restroom to take out his phone and observe the battle situation.
As she leaned against the sink, scrolling through the comments section, Zhang Yuge followed her in.
"Young Master Shi is so considerate now, helping others promote their work without letting anyone see it. This is not like you at all."
"I don't understand what you're saying." Shi Ru rolled her eyes gracefully, put her phone away, and started washing her hands.
Zhang Yuge is not one to know when to stop; when it comes to his friend, he'll definitely seize the opportunity to strike!
"What are you doing? Why do you run away as soon as I mention this? It's not shameful to like someone."
Shi Ru stopped in his tracks, worried that the boy might speak recklessly and spout nonsense, and that it was fine for him to say such things, but he shouldn't take it to Zhu Yu.
She is, after all, a woman, and an actress.
"Don't go around trying to matchmake people up. Have you considered how the people involved feel? Do you know that this could very well ruin a girl's career!"
Seeing that Shi Ru's attitude was not joking, Zhang Yuge was stunned. He and Shi Ru had known each other for so many years. "We've known each other for so long, it was just a joke, and now you're treating me like this because of a woman?"
Zhang Yuge knew that he must look like a pitiful person who had been abandoned, but he just couldn't help it.
After all, in his view, this was just a harmless joke, and the woman even benefited greatly from it.
"Making dirty jokes is never funny."
"What kind of dirty joke is this!" Shi Ru was angry not because of Zhu Yu, but because he had violated some of his "principles" that he insisted on for some reason.
Zhang Yuge's expression immediately softened, and he began to defend himself.
Shi Ru didn't offer an explanation. He turned back to the center of the banquet and casually deflected a drink offered to her by someone.
-
"So you two really didn't talk?" Tan Lingling pretended to have accidentally seen Shi Ru escorting Zhu Yu back to her dormitory while she was hanging clothes out to dry, and then squatted outside the bathroom door while Zhu Yu was taking a shower, asking questions incessantly.
"Of course, I'm just one of his artists at most!" The voice was muffled by the mist and glass.
However, Tan Lingling already knew all the information she wanted to gather. Based on Zhu Yu's words alone, she now had a reasonable excuse to appear in front of both Shi Ru and Zhu Yu at the same time.
So, satisfied, Tan Lingling stopped bothering Zhu Yu, rinsed the clothes she had scrubbed for the third time to remove the foam, hung them up to dry, and went back to bed.
She hasn't been back much lately; she's been quite busy on set, but Zhou Ye keeps urging her to come back.
But she couldn't control the casting process! If Shi Ru wouldn't give her a role, how could she possibly persuade the director?
"Hey, I haven't asked yet, how's your latest drama going? Did you pass the audition?"
Zhu Yu washed up quickly, stood in front of the full-length mirror by the entrance, and asked while drying her hair.
"I passed. My agent gave me this interview, but it was just a formality. Resources of this level are usually exchanged for different resources."
Zhu Yu nodded, seemingly understanding, "If there's no need for an interview, then filming will start very soon, right?"
"Filming has already started; I've been filming for a week now."
"Huh?" Zhu Yu turned around in confusion. "Don't big production crews usually have a long pre-production period? How come you're so fast?"
"This time it's different. This is a big production. The sets were all built on the spot. The venue fee is quite high every day. Every extra day it takes will cost a fortune."
"A set built on the spot?" Zhu Yu suddenly became interested. "Such a big production! Can I go and visit it? I mean, I want to check out your set."
Lying down with a leave-on face mask on, Tan Lingling, her mouth slightly agape, mumbled, "Sure, just let me know in advance when you're coming."
I was just wondering how to complete Zhou Ye's task, but if he were on set, wouldn't I have a lot more options?
"Hello." On the way back, Shi Ru and Shi Ru had eaten a little too much and drunk some alcohol, so they both called a driver.
After giving Zhu Yu away, Zhang Yuge lay down on the roadside flowerbed and vomited for a while.
I felt really uncomfortable in the car right after throwing up, so I just asked the driver to take me back. Luckily, the rest of the journey wasn't far, so I figured it would help me sober up.
"I don't really understand. Why did you get yourself so drunk at Zhu Yu's victory celebration banquet?"
Shi Ru silently handed Zhang Yuge a tissue to wipe his mouth.
"How can you blame me? That wine must have been fake. It burned my throat when I drank it, and now it's burning my stomach."
"How much did you drink? Don't worry, you might have alcohol poisoning."
Zhang Yuge looked at Shi Ru like he was an idiot before taking the paper Shi Ru handed him: "I've been a big shot at drinking for so many years, don't you know my limits? This little bit of cheap liquor, how could I get alcohol poisoning?"
Unwilling to argue with a drunkard, Shi Ru glanced around and focused his gaze on a 24-hour supermarket not far away.
"Wait, I'll go buy you a bottle of water to rinse your mouth."
Because it's near the university town, even though it's late, there are still quite a few students outside who haven't gone back to their dorms yet.
Shi Ru grabbed a bottle of mouthwash and two bottles of mineral water from the supermarket, waited in line for a few minutes before paying and coming out.
"Hi, sir, I'm from the music department next door. Can I add you on WeChat?"
Although all sorts of eyes were fixed on Shi Ru and Zhang Yuge along the way, none of them dared to actually come up.
This girl is quite bold. Shi Ru didn't feel offended. After all, she's a music major, and there might be opportunities to collaborate in the future.
He has always been very tolerant of his future partners.
"What year are you in?" Anyway, Zhang Yuge was probably fast asleep on the chair, so he wasn't in a hurry to go and deal with him. A drunkard should be allowed to sober up on his own first.
Thinking this, Shi Ru stopped and looked at the girl in front of him with great interest.
Seeing that Shi Ru was so easy to talk to, the girl's eyes lit up and she immediately took out her phone and showed her QR code.
"My name is Lu Xiaoxiao, and I'm a sophomore majoring in folk singing."
"Do you know Teacher Huang Zhongfan?" Teacher Huang Zhongfan is a national-level artist specializing in folk singing and also teaches at the school.
They have always had a good relationship with the Shi family.
"Mmm-hmm!" Lu Xiaoxiao nodded frantically, as if she had found something in common between the two of them. "He's my teacher! I'm planning to study for my master's degree under his tutelage!"
"Handsome, are you also Professor Huang's student? Which year were you in?"
It's not that Professor Shi Ru meant anything by it, but the college itself isn't very big, and there aren't many people specializing in folk singing. Professor Huang, as a retired teacher who was rehired, doesn't teach many classes.
During the large class, Lu Xiaoxiao, a social butterfly, had already become familiar with all of Professor Huang's students, but there was no high-quality man like Shi Ru among them.
“I’m not from this school, but he is.” Shi Ru held a bag in one hand and pointed with the other at the drunkard lying on the flowerbed bench by the street.
"Oh~ So how do you know Professor Huang?" Although the handsome guy hadn't introduced himself or added her on WeChat, she was confident that if they kept chatting like this, she would definitely be able to get his WeChat contact!
Wow, are you kidding me? Lu Xiaoxiao subtly and carefully sized up Shi Ru. Those long legs, those proportions, that waistline!
Lu Xiaoxiao was so moved that tears almost streamed down her face.
"Professor Huang and my family have a good relationship." Shi Ru's tone was not boastful; he was simply stating a fact.
While Lu Xiaoxiao was sizing him up, Shi Ru was also sizing up Lu Xiaoxiao.
She speaks with poise and grace, is lively and humorous, and has a clear and pleasant voice. Her appearance is also above average.
Although I don't know how well she sings, I feel like she has the potential to become a star.
Connor, however, doesn't seem to have a record line.
Last time, Zhu Yu seemed to say that she wanted to open her own studio and didn't want to sign with a company, work for someone else, or be arranged by others.
Now, as I delve deeper into this path, I realize I've learned a great deal about Shi Ru and am beginning to consider the feasibility of Zhu Yu's proposal.
He is still young, and it's the perfect time for him to explore different avenues of development, such as film, television, stage plays, and singing.
With Zhu Yu in charge of expanding in the television and film industry, he could really find another singer to develop the domestic music market.
The lights were dim that night. After hearing Shi Ru say that he and Professor Huang were old friends, Lu Xiaoxiao took another serious look at Shi Ru.
You wouldn't believe it until you see it! This guy is decked out in designer brands from head to toe. For one thing, his belt is an Emma!
Good, good, she just casually struck up a conversation on the street and ended up hooking up with a real rich kid.
This discovery, however, made Lu Xiaoxiao somewhat consider giving up.
Those of them who are in art school all know that the richer a man is, the worse he is—the pure evil of a beast unleashed from within.
Tens of thousands of dollars can buy a life, and tens of thousands of dollars can completely ruin a person's life.
But those tens of thousands of yuan aren't even as expensive as one of their cigars.
"I'm Shi Ru from Connor Media. This is my business card. You seem to have good qualifications. If you're interested in part-time work, please contact me."
As Lu Xiaoxiao was pondering how to leave in a reasonable manner, Shi Ru took out a business card.
This is the first business card he's given out since it was printed.
"Connor? Uh, isn't Connor in film and television? I studied music."
Lu Xiaoxiao took the business card. Connor's reputation wasn't great among these penniless art students.
It's just another playground for the powerful and wealthy, so how much better can it be?
“I know, this is my personal contact information. I’m planning to open a studio and work independently soon. If you’re interested, you can come and learn more.”
"Going solo?" That's quite a boast. You think you can just go solo like that? Aren't you afraid Connor will kill you if you leave Connor and try to go solo?
Lu Xiaoxiao thought to herself.
Perhaps the girl's distrust was too obvious, so Shi Ru explained helplessly, "My name is Shi Ru. You can search for me; there should be an encyclopedia entry. Don't worry, what I'm doing is definitely a legitimate studio."
