Ningxia quietly pulled aside the leaves covering the hole next to the door, held her breath, and looked carefully outside the house through the gap.
The moonlight outside was bright. She looked around but found nothing in front of the house. Only Maomao was anxious for some reason and was breathing restlessly back and forth in front of the house.
Ningxia retreated to the bedside and turned around to meet a pair of bright eyes. Her muscles tensed up and she almost shot Lin Yi in the head.
Ningxia made a hushing gesture and Lin Yi nodded. He was already alert and woke up the moment Ningxia got out of bed. Seeing Ningxia tiptoeing to look outside the house, Lin Yi was so scared that his heart was beating fast, but he didn't dare to make a sound.
Ningxia had no time to comfort him at the moment. She walked to the head of the bed with her gun in hand. There was a small gap in the propped-up window for ventilation. She bent down and looked through the gap. Outside the window was the back of the house. Ningxia had hung dried fish on the few trees that were left.
A huge, dark figure was stealthily tugging at her fish, its movements quick and quiet. Ningxia couldn't quite make out what was going on, and just as she was about to quietly open the window for a closer look, the figure succeeded, pulling down a string of fish. Then, bent and straightened, it landed on all fours! It was a bear!
Ningxia's heart pounded in her chest, a warning of danger flashing. She froze, not daring to move, her breathing becoming lighter. Her forearm, gripping the pistol, was so tense it was trembling. She just hoped it would leave after harming the fish. She had no chance of winning against it.
The room was completely silent. The sleeping Sangsang seemed to be infected by the tense atmosphere and whimpered. The sound was not loud but at this moment it was like a bolt of thunder from the blue!
Lin Yi hurriedly tried to cover Sangsang's mouth, but it was too late. The figure outside the house turned his head, met Ningxia's eyes with fierce eyes, and then let out a long roar and rushed over.
It was said to be late but it was fast. Ningxia did not hesitate. The moment he opened the window, he raised his arm, his brows sharp, staring at the figure moving forward, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
"Bang!" "Bang!" Two gunshots rang out in succession. All of them hit the target because the distance was too close, but the big guy in front of him just paused slightly, then roared and pounced on him even more ferociously.
The fragile window collapsed in an instant, and half of the bear's body rushed in. It had thick brown-black hair, and a ferocious bloody mouth torn open on its huge head. Its fangs were shining and it was roaring continuously. It was no exaggeration to say that Ningxia could even see a faint sharp glow from its hair.
Sangsang, who was standing by, had already been stunned by this shocking turn of events. She woke up when the first gunshot was heard. Without Ningxia's instructions, the moment the brown bear pounced on her, Lin Yi had already hugged Sangsang and hid in the corner of the house.
However, in just a few breaths, Ningxia was unable to dodge and was severely scratched on the arm by the big guy in front of him. Seeing it struggling to climb in through the window, Ningxia ignored the bloody wound, raised his arm which was shaking violently due to pain, and fired two more shots at the brown bear.
Sangsang didn't say anything, but tears kept flowing out of her round eyes as she watched the fighting figures inside.
Lin Yi trembled as he looked at the giant creature not far away and Ning Xia's bleeding arm. He took out a dagger and was about to make a move when Ning Xia seemed to be able to read through his mind.
"Don't come over!" Ningxia shouted and raised his hand to aim at the brown bear's eyes. He didn't know what this damn thing ate to grow so big. It was still very ferocious after four bullets were shot.
There are only two bullets left in the pistol. If they cannot aim at the relatively weak eyes to gain a chance of survival, then all three of them will die here without having time to change bullets.
Ningxia steadied his arms, took a few steps back, and looked at the big guy who was about to break free from the window and rush into the house. He shot without hesitation, but it was just a hair's breadth away. The brown bear felt the delayed pain and roared even louder.
Ningxia steadied himself, took deep breaths, and the last shot had to be successful!
"Bang!"
Got it!!!
The bullet successfully lodged into the brown bear's eye socket. The giant bear finally stopped moving and rolled backwards in a very human-like manner, holding its head. Its huge body rolled awkwardly on the ground for several times before it stumbled to its feet and disappeared into the night again.
The crisis was temporarily resolved, and Ningxia sat down limply on the ground. There was no trace of blood on her small face, even her lips were pale. The severe pain in her arms and the bloodstains on her body reminded her of what a thrilling battle she had just experienced.
The two little ones in the corner were not in much better condition. One was completely frightened and crying, while the other big one crawled to her side, tears and snot streaming down his face. He wanted to check her wound but didn't know where to start.
"Okay, stop crying. Go get the bag of medicine from your luggage, along with the water in the kettle." Ningxia looked weakly at the three bloody wounds on her left upper arm where the flesh was rolling around. She was secretly thankful that she had mixed in a lot of medicine for external injuries.
By the time they had applied medicine and bandaged the wounds, it was already dawn. The three of them had recovered a lot. Sangsang, who had been cheerful before, clung to Ningxia like a piece of sticky candy. Ningxia understood that she was scared, so she let her go.
"Have you packed your things?" Ningxia looked at Lin Yi's busy figure.
"I've taken care of Sister Xia Xia." Lin Yi was terrified, his hands still trembling slightly. He was afraid of the monster from last night, afraid that Sang Sang would get hurt, and also afraid... Ning Xia didn't want them anymore...
After Sister Xia Xia was injured, she basically didn't communicate with them and remained silent all the time. Was she blaming them? If Sangsang hadn't been mumbling last night, the bear wouldn't have been alarmed.
When the bear was stuck by the window, Sister Xia Xia had the opportunity to abandon them and run away, waiting for the bear to eat them before slowly returning to pack their luggage. But Sister Xia Xia didn't do that. Why not? She should have abandoned them. At this moment, a huge panic enveloped Lin Yi's heart.
