Chapter 49: Cleaning the New House

Lin Yi shook his head. "We also took a nap in the afternoon. Sangsang got up a little earlier than you."

Ningxia nodded, "Then let's nail the curtains shut before going to bed, okay?"

The two siblings naturally nodded in agreement.

There were still leaves in the yard that Xiaojie and his friends had picked at noon. They had used them to pad the ground for vegetables, and there were still a lot left.

There is no shortage of giant calla lily leaves around here, and this thing really accompanied them all the way.

Ningxia and Lin Yi each carried a bunch of things. Sangsang took a candle and a lighter and went straight to the master bedroom. After all, they still had to sleep tonight, so it would be better to clean up first.

Ningxia took the handkerchief and wiped the window frame carefully again before pinning the large leaves on it one by one. She pinned three thick layers together to cover the window tightly.

Sangsang was puzzled. "But Xia Xia, if we seal it like this, there will be no wind~"

Ningxia smiled, her hands moving non-stop, "In a few days it will be the scorching sun month. There will be no wind then. If we don't seal it off, the heat will come in and we won't be able to bear it."

Sangsang nodded in understanding.

After the windows were sealed, there were not many leaves left. Ningxia called the two children to go to the children's room next door. The windows in the children's room were smaller, so it should be enough.

After sealing the two rooms, the three of them returned to the master bedroom with candles. Once the windows were sealed, the room was truly pitch black, making the candlelight appear incredibly bright.

The three of them lay on their backs on the large bed, savoring the exquisite moments of life brought by the scented candles. Ningxia was on the far left, Lin Yi on the far right, and Sangsang lay on Lin Yi's arm, looking at the candles beside them without blinking, "Xia Xia, is this a waste?"

Ningxia reached out and pinched her little arm, "Let it burn, and use it as a greenhouse." After saying that, she pulled the corners of her lips as if she was amused by herself.

Lin Yi, who was standing aside, looked at Sangsang's smooth little face seriously, his eyes full of warmth. He and Sangsang finally had a home.

The three of them had different thoughts. With the warm light of the candles and the subtle aroma that helped them sleep, they didn't know when they fell into a deep sleep.

At dawn, Ningxia's biological clock awoke her. The first thing she did was turn to look at the candle. A crooked puddle of wax lay on the floor; it had gone out. She stared at it for a moment, lost in thought, before turning back to rub her face and get ready to get up.

She got out of bed very quietly, but she didn't expect Lin Yi to be so alert and get up as well, leaving little Sangsang alone in bed, sound asleep.

Ningxia tilted her head back and gargled, finally getting rid of much of the saltiness in her mouth. Toothpaste was too expensive, and none of the toothpaste in the house was working, so Ningxia had to resort to gargling with salt. She usually gargled with plain water, though, and only dared to use salt once every three days, fearing it would damage her gums.

"Sister Xia Xia, what are we going to do today?" Lin Yi wiped his mouth and raised his sleeve to wipe it casually.

Ningxia looked back at the house. There were so many things to do, and she really didn't know what to do. After thinking for a while, she said, "Let's take down all the cloth that can be taken down from the house today. When Sangsang wakes up, we can go to the river to wash them."

Lin Yi nodded, and Ningxia looked up at the sky. It was already the beginning of July, and in less than twenty days, the scorching sun month would be here, so they had to prepare quickly.

The two siblings went to the children's room first and took out the dirty toys. They also took out two super large plush pillows, which were great things, with a lot of cotton inside.

Because the room was backlit, the damage was not serious, and the bedding, cushions and pillows could still be used after tidying up. Ningxia and Lin Yi were busy for a while before they moved all the things out.

In the yard lay a pile of dirty sheets and quilts, and a large pile of clean cotton, mattresses, and pillows spread out to dry. Ningxia looked at the pile on the ground and felt very happy.

The two of them went back to the living room and looked at the extremely dirty sofa set in a dilemma, "Sister Xia Xia, what should we do?"

Ningxia walked forward and felt around. The sofa was covered with a layer of velvet, which should be removable.

The sofa was still dirty after the velvet was removed, but there was no other way. I could only drag it out to dry in the sun. It really couldn't be washed.

As soon as the sofa was moved to the yard, Sangsang came out rubbing his eyes, "Brother! Why didn't you call me!"

Ningxia smiled and went to dry the sofa, leaving the brother and sister to deal with it themselves.

It was already seven o'clock, and the sun was out. Ningxia put the sofa in the yard, out of the way. Then she went to the grape trellis to light a fire, heated up some leftover porridge from last night, and had a quick breakfast. She had too much to do and didn't have time to cook.

He called the two younger ones over to eat, "After we finish eating we have to go to the river and wash these, while the sun is still hot in the morning."

The two nodded in tacit understanding.

It was still the same large basin, filled with dirty sheets from the master bedroom and the children's room, velvet from the sofa, curtains from the room, and a pile of extremely dirty toys, piled high. Precious wealth is indeed tiring.

Sangsang was carrying a large bag of laundry detergent. The liquid detergent was unusable, but the laundry detergent was fine, except that it was a little clumpy.

"Sangsang, you are responsible for washing the toys. These are the ones you will play with in the future, so wash them clean." Ningxia took out the toys one by one and placed them in front of Sangsang.

Sangsang smiled happily, examining each item one by one, his eyes full of curiosity.

Ningxia and Linyi were in charge of the assorted fabrics. Ningxia washed the thicker items like curtains and sofa covers, while Linyi washed the sheets, quilt covers, and pillowcases. With a generous amount of detergent, the fabrics gradually regained their original color, and aside from a few stubborn stains, they were generally clean.

It took me more than three hours to finish the work.

Sangsang was squatting nearby and having fun. All her toys were soaked in water, and she was studying a water gun in her hand.

Lin Yi washed his hands, walked over and sat next to her, "Come, brother will teach you how to play." After that, he took out the inner liner of the water gun, filled it with water, put it back on, and aimed it at Sangsang.

Sangsang blinked her big eyes, and her long eyelashes fell on her eyelids, "Brother, what are you doing~ah!" Before she could finish her words, Lin Yi splashed water on her face, "Brother!" Her voice was full of excitement, and she wanted to rush over to get the water gun.

Lin Yi dodged with a smile and splashed water on Sangsang's face again. Sangsang's little face wrinkled up and it took her a while to open her eyes. She scooped up water from the river with her little hands and poured it on Lin Yi.

However, her hands were too small and she had no idea what to do. By the time she picked up the water, most of it had spilled. Only a few drops of water fell on Lin Yi, which didn't hurt at all.

Lin Yi laughed out loud, his water gun blasting even harder. Sangsang, furious, stood up, turned his back, bent over, braced his hands in the water, and paddled backward with his feet, sending up a massive splash, a game of injuring the enemy a thousand times while also injuring himself eight hundred times.

The brother and sister were having a great time, and Ningxia just watched them with a smile, not urging them to go home. It was rare to see Lin Yi act so childish, which was quite unusual. After all, he was only a thirteen-year-old.
