Chapter 44 We Have a Home

The entrance cabinet serves as a partition. On the left is a set of sofas leaning against the wall, hidden tightly by the cabinet. Ningxia only saw it after she finished looking at the dining table and walked over. The velvet sofas were already in a mess. At least Ningxia couldn't tell what color they were for a while.

It was spacious, a semi-circular L-shape. Ningxia could see Lin Yi and Sangsang lying side by side without issue. Behind the sofa was a large, wide window that stretched from the ceiling down to Ningxia's waist. Aside from a few sharp, protruding shards of glass in the surrounding notches, the window itself was completely empty. The curtains on either side were tattered, and the sofa and the floor were littered with broken glass.

In front of the sofa was a coffee table, also made of ceramic. It was small and square, and no one paid much attention to it. In front of it was a huge, cracked TV screen. Sangsang walked forward, pointed at the TV, and said word by word, "I know! It's a TV. I saw it in a book."

They picked up several unwanted picture books along the way, and Sangsang learned a lot from them.

"Yes, Sangsang is amazing." Ningxia picked up Sangsang and explained the purpose of the TV to her. The soldiers looked at her and said, "Come on, stop hanging around and go find something to do."

Ningxia took Sangsang to continue looking at houses and they hadn't finished yet.

There was a hallway between the dining table and the TV, and on the far right side of the living room, next to the sofa, was a door. Ningxia thought for a moment and went to the door. The doorknob still worked, though it was a bit difficult. Opening it, she saw a row of countertops made of the same granite as the floor, facing the door. A double-door refrigerator was placed against the wall.

What was surprising was that the platform on the left side, near the big window, was obviously much wider than the platform next to it. There was a round hole in the middle with a rack for making a fire, and a gas tank was connected underneath. Ningxia walked forward and shook it, and it was full!

Why is it a surprise? This stove hole is dual-purpose. Take out the gas tank inside and put some small stones underneath, and it will become an earthen stove used in rural areas. It is a high-end version with a ventilation port and a hand-pulled box.

There was a row of cabinets above and below the cooking table. Ningxia opened them and took a casual look. There were all kinds of pots, pans, and utensils. There was also a kitchen knife rack on the wall cabinet above. Ningxia took it down and found two kitchen knives, a cleaver for chopping bones, and a pair of scissors. It was obvious that they were good things and not rusted at all.

The front of the house is the end, so Ningxia retreated to the living room and entered from the corridor. There was a short corridor with a room at the end, a door on the left and two doors on the right.

Ningxia was the first to push open the door on the left. It was a bedroom, a child's bedroom.

The room contained a bunk bed about five feet wide, the lower bunk showing signs of habitation. There were childlike sheets, cloud-shaped pillows, and a quilt large enough to hold toys. Ningxia looked around and noticed that half of the window in the room was still standing.

Because the windows in this room were smaller than those in other rooms, the damage was not very serious. Ningxia reached out and touched the quilt. As long as there were no bugs in it, it should be usable after cleaning.

The upper bunk of the bed was filled with colorful toys, and several of them were even electric. Unfortunately, the batteries were out of power. But even so, Sangsang was happy enough, because these were toys she had never seen before.

There was a large table under the window of the room. Several drawers were filled with draft papers with scribbles on them, and there was a stack of brand new papers placed aside that had not been used. There was a small bookshelf on the table with a few books on it. They were all story collections with pinyin annotations, about airplanes and cannons, etc. It seemed that a young boy had lived there before.

There weren't many clothes in the closet, mostly pajamas, and there were several sets, only one of which was slightly thicker. The top layer of the closet was just as Ningxia had expected, with colorful sheets stacked on top of each other, and even a small mat for a child.

Ningxia left with satisfaction. This house was simply tailor-made for her.

The room at the end is the master bedroom. There is a large window facing the door and a yard in front as a buffer. The room at the back is not so lucky. The bed is a mess with all kinds of things. Ningxia even saw the excrement of some animals.

In the middle was a two-meter bed. Ningxia said that after sleeping in the wild for so long, she finally saw what she wanted to see. The quilt on the bed was covered with dark stains caused by being wet and dried again.

The bed was hollow, and the inside of the bed foot covered by the sheets was also covered in dust. There were also two large wooden boxes that looked very gorgeous. Ningxia was very upset. Who would have two such extravagant treasure chests in their home? They were even inlaid with two red gems.

Ningxia didn't care about the dirt and pulled it out with great effort. She wanted to see what treasures these two huge boxes could be used to hold.

It wasn't locked, just lightly fastened with the box's own snap fasteners. Ningxia easily opened one of the openings and found a four-piece suit! All sorts of colorful four-piece suits! Satin, cotton, velvet, lace-trimmed, cartoon-themed, floral, solid-colored ones. Lin Yi's suitcase was filled to the brim with four-piece suits!

Ningxia felt like she was going to faint with joy. These were all expensive fabrics! Because the wooden box was thick and heavy, the contents were well preserved. Ningxia swore she even smelled a hint of the long-lost, unique scent of laundry detergent from before the disaster.

Ningxia opened another box with excitement. It contained a quilt, but it was not thick enough, only about three or four pounds. There was also a thin, comfortable air-conditioned quilt and a thin plush blanket underneath.

The owner of this place really has a good sense of life. Ningxia admired it in her heart, completely forgetting that she had just complained silently about the two boxes being too extravagant.
