"Mother, Yan, Yan'er doesn't want to talk about this?"
Nangong Ziyan clutched her chest tightly. The thought of Beiming Haotian made her heart ache terribly, so much so that she felt like dying.
"Yan'er..."
"Yan'er..."
Sima Jiaorong and Nangong Ruichen looked at her with heartache. Although Nangong Yuze did not speak, his pain was written all over his face.
"Yan'er, don't think about it. We won't talk about it anymore."
Sima Jiaorong pulled Nangong Ziyan into her arms, her heart aching so much she was almost going crazy.
"Mother, Father, Eldest Brother, Yan'er is tired and wants to go home."
Nangong Ziyan nestled in her mother's warm embrace, tears streaming down her face from the pain. She longed to return to the South China Sea Glazed Palace, that cozy home that might offer some solace.
"Okay! Yan'er, let's go back."
Sima Jiaorong hurriedly agreed. She didn't want to think about anything else right now; she just wanted her daughter to forget this heart-wrenching pain as soon as possible.
That night, Nangong Ziyan stood by the window, looking at the dark night outside, unable to fall asleep. Since she fainted, she had never seen Beiming Haotian again, and she couldn't help but take Baili Yuechan's words seriously.
Nangong Ziyan stroked her still flat belly, and the thought of a little life already existing there filled her with excitement.
"My dear, my heart is so sad. How about we go for a walk?"
Nangong Ziyan's eyes shone with a loving maternal light. Looking down at her flat stomach, tears seemed about to well up again. Nangong Ziyan took a deep breath. She would never give up easily. Then she looked up and walked outside.
It was late at night, and the inn was quiet. Nangong Ziyan had just opened the door when she saw Dongfang Yifei standing at her door.
"Yan'er".
Dongfang Yifei was extremely excited to see Nangong Ziyan.
Nangong Ziyan frowned and asked in confusion, "Yifei, what are you doing here?"
“Yan’er, I’ve heard about what happened between you and Bei Ming Haotian. I told you long ago that Bei Ming Haotian is not a good person at all. He was only with you to use you. Now that the demonic spirit within him has been devoured, he’s simply pretending not to know you. You don’t need to be upset over such a heartless and ungrateful man.”
"I'm sorry, Yifei, I want to be alone for a while."
Her heart was being torn apart again. What she needed now was not to confide in someone, to be listened to, or to be blamed. What she needed now was someone who understood her. As long as someone understood her, the pain in her heart could be lessened.
"Miss Nangong, Young Master Dongfang, what a coincidence!"
Baili Yuechan's voice came from behind, and Nangong Ziyan and Dongfang Yifei looked up.
With just one glance, Nangong Ziyan froze upon seeing that tall and familiar figure. Ever since she woke up, she had been looking forward to seeing him, but now that she had, her heart was filled with inexplicable fear and unbearable pain. So, he really had been using her. He and Baili Yuechan were very close, and those eyes that had only ever been gentle to her were now gazing tenderly at Baili Yuechan. She had been trying to convince herself that Haotian wouldn't do this to her, but now that she had seen it with her own eyes, she had no choice but to believe it.
"Ugh...!"
Nangong Ziyan staggered a few steps, clutching her chest with one hand and gripping the door frame with the other, despair engulfing her heart.
"Yan'er, are you alright?"
Dongfang Yifei tried to help Nangong Ziyan, but Nangong Ziyan shook him off.
Bei Ming Haotian stared blankly at the writhing Nangong Ziyan before him. Was this the Yan'er Haoze had spoken of? Seeing her, he felt a strange sense of familiarity. Seeing her in pain pained him as well, yet the one he loved was Chan'er. Why did he feel this way about her? Bei Ming Haotian stared intently at Nangong Ziyan. Had he truly been tricked? And had Dongfang Yifei just slandered him in front of Yan'er?
