Chapter 11: Eating the Difference

Fang Zongtang's eyes didn't waver at all, and he said without blinking, "It's nothing important, but those clothes may hold clues to why I've been missing for ten years. Don't wash them yet, in case there are any marks on them that get washed off."

Song Yi took Fang Zongtang's hand and took her to the dinner table.

"You eat first, I'll get the old clothes."

She stopped him immediately.

"No, put it in my room along with the things I brought back. I'll study it slowly after I finish my meal."

Song Yi naturally grabbed Fang Zongtang's hair, and when he found that the moisture was not so heavy, he put the towel on the rack.

"Okay, I'll live in the master bedroom on the second floor, and Ji Zong will live in the second bedroom opposite."

Before Song Yi could finish, she said, "I hate climbing stairs. Clear a room for me on the first floor."

Song Yi went to do it.

Fang Zongtao stared at Song Yi for two minutes. When he saw him take the old clothes and cloth bag into the room on the first floor, he retracted his gaze and focused on the dishes on the table.

Honey-glazed barbecued pork, fried crab in the typhoon shelter, roast goose, soft-boiled abalone, shark fin casserole, garlic-flavored Chinese cabbage, and blanched Chinese cabbage are all her favorite dishes, but they are also different. When she craves for barbecued pork, she only buys it occasionally to satisfy her hunger. She only buys half a roast goose every half month or a month, and she never buys such a big one. The roast goose she buys is the size of an old hen, and it is still half, and it can't even cover the plate when cut in half.

Unlike the one on the table, the plate alone is as big as her two heads, and it is covered with a layer of food. The goose used must be at least six or seven years old.

There were also abalones. She had previously eaten cheap ones caught at the dock, which were slightly smaller than eggs. The five soft-boiled abalones on the plate were all bigger than her palm, at least two or three abalones, and each one definitely weighed more than four taels.

When you take a bite, what you eat is not meat, but money!

And the pot of shark fin, she knew without even looking at it that it was not the shredded shark fin she used to eat. These were the dishes that only the top wealthy families in Hong Kong could afford.

Putting aside the clothes, shoes and hats, this meal made her feel different.

Ten years ago, when she disappeared, she was 20 years old and her son-in-law was 18 years old. She had been the head of Lao Xingtang for two years. In Sham Shui Po, although she was not a powerful figure, she was well-known. When her name was mentioned, all the gangsters, big and small, would give her some face.

When she was happy, she called him Little Pomegranate, and when she was unhappy, she called him Pomegranate Boy. In private, she and her great-grandfather preferred to call him Son-in-law Boy.

In the past, the son-in-law was a bespectacled scholar who would always bury his head in books or work silently behind her. Whatever she asked him to do, he would do it without even asking.

It was different now. She had to scream several times before she could move. She looked very unwilling. He dared to snatch things from her. She held them, and he dared to snatch them twice in a row. He also criticized her, saying that she was a country bumpkin who didn't know foreign languages.

If he had done these things and said these things ten years ago, would he have dared to move or say a word?

She taught him a lesson in how to behave in a minute.

The situation is unclear now. She doesn't know where the people she used to know are or what changes have taken place. Even if she has a temper, she has to endure it!

Ten years~ Who can tell her what she has been doing in these ten years?

Song Yi is back.

"The things are put away. Check to see if there is anything else you need later and I'll ask someone to buy it for you." Song Yi said as he sat on Fang Zongtang's right and picked up his bowl and chopsticks to eat.

She had finished eating, put down her bowl and chopsticks and stood up.

"Take your time eating. I'm going to take a rest. Don't disturb me!" Fang Zongtao glanced at Song Yi quickly and saw that he was eating with his head down, walking towards the room without stopping.
