Chapter 11: Little Cane

Chapter 11: Little Cane

Xin Tianyi looked at the bag in Zhang Liangpeng's hand and looked at him in surprise.

She had already explained this to her family, and Wang Fang did not drag her to find Zhang Yang like she did in her previous life. Xin Tianyi thought she had successfully prevented this, but unexpectedly, Zhang Yang's father still bought her a new schoolbag.

Xin Tianyi looked at the new schoolbag and asked in surprise, "Is it for me?"

"Yes, didn't my Zhang Yang paint your schoolbag red?" Zhang Liangpeng said, stuffing the schoolbag into Xin Tianyi's hands, "Take a look and see if you like it."

Xin Tianyi immediately explained: "Uncle, no, Zhang Yang didn't do it on purpose. No, I should say that I accidentally bumped into Zhang Yang and got the red paint on him. I..."

"Okay, let's go home first." Wang Yuxiu looked at the white wine in his hand and said to Zhang Liangpeng, "We agreed to drink with me tonight!"

"I must make sure you enjoy yourself!" Zhang Liangpeng smiled at Xin Tianyi. He no longer wanted to dwell on the schoolbag issue. He looked at Wang Yuxiu and said, "Master, give it to me. I'll carry it. I'll definitely drink with you tonight."

After they finished talking, they walked towards home, and Xin Tianyi quickly followed them with his schoolbag.

No wonder Yuan Dabao and the others treated her like that!

Xin Tianyi finally understood.

She thought she had stopped her family from looking for Zhang Yang, and successfully resolved the initial conflict between her, Zhang Yang, and Yuan Dabao. Unexpectedly, everything happened just like in the previous life.

"Liangpeng is here!" Xie Mei saw Zhang Liangpeng and Wang Yuxiu walk in together and immediately stood up. "Come in quickly. It's been a long time since I saw you."

Zhang Liangpeng stood at the door and said politely, "I've been very busy recently. As soon as I had some free time today, I came to see Master's wife."

Xie Mei smiled and said, "I know you're busy. Your master and I are fine, don't worry. Come on, sit down."

Zhang Liangpeng and Wang Yuxiu sat down at the table, and Xie Mei said, "I'll go get two more dishes."

"Master's wife, no need, this is already very rich." Zhang Liangpeng said immediately.

"Director Zhang has seen and eaten everything. Do you think this millet porridge with pickles is a rich meal?" Wang Gang said sarcastically as he sat at the table drinking millet porridge.

Wang Yuxiu glared at Wang Gang, then said to Xie Mei, "Didn't we buy eggs today? Why don't you make some fried eggs with green onions? Liangpeng loves it the most."

"Okay, okay. Just sit down, it will be ready soon." Xie Mei walked into the kitchen with a smile.

Zhang Liangpeng had long been accustomed to Wang Gang's sarcasm. Ever since he became Wang Yuxiu's apprentice, he'd come to his master's house for dinner every holiday. From being single to starting his own family, things were fine at first; Wang Gang treated him warmly, like a brother. But then, with factory reforms, Zhang Liangpeng, a skilled laborer, rose through the ranks, from team leader to team leader, and finally to workshop director, relying on his strong skills and management acumen.

I don’t know when it started, but Wang Gang treated him differently than before.

What he said most often was: My father taught you all his skills, are you his son or am I...

Zhang Liangpeng had heard this so often that he became numb. He knew Wang Gang's character and just ignored him. That was until his election as factory director. His master, Wang Yuxiu, campaigned extensively for him, and he finally won the election and became the director of the cotton mill.

This made Wang Gang even more dissatisfied, and he often said some nonsense. Zhang Liangpeng also did not bother with him for the sake of his master.

The same thing happened tonight. Zhang Liangpeng pretended not to hear what Wang Gang said. He opened the white wine and filled Wang Yuxiu's glass.

Wang Yuxiu has no other hobbies except drinking white wine.

He is greedy for wine, and you can even let him have a sip without eating.

Since I retired, I rarely drink alcohol due to health problems, but I still crave it.

"Good!" Wang Yuxiu said with a smile, "It smells good. You should pour it in quickly too."

Zhang Liangpeng nodded, poured himself a cup, and then looked at Wang Gang: "Are you coming?"

Wang Gang was in a bad mood. He drank his millet porridge in a slurp and didn't answer at all.

"What is he drinking? Such good wine will be wasted if it goes into his stomach." Wang Yuxiu said angrily when he saw his son's behavior.

He looked up and saw Xin Tianyi still standing there, and hurriedly said, "Tianyi, just eat yours and don't worry about us."

Xin Tianyi finally had a chance to interrupt, so he walked over to Zhang Liangpeng and said, "Uncle, I can't have this schoolbag."

Zhang Liangpeng looked at Xin Tianyi in surprise: "Why? I bought this especially for you."

"Because it wasn't Zhang Yang who got the paint on my backpack." Xin Tianyi just wanted to explain the matter clearly: "Uncle, when I was carrying my backpack out that day, I accidentally bumped into Zhang Yang and got the paint on him. It was my own mistake, not Zhang Yang's. So I can't have this backpack."

"Really?" Zhang Liangpeng finally understood. "Didn't Zhang Yang do it on purpose?"

"It's really not true, uncle, you misunderstood Zhang Yang." Xin Tianyi said.

"Oh." Zhang Liangpeng nodded thoughtfully. "Okay, I get it. But you still have the schoolbag. After all, I bought it for you. Just think of it as a New Year's gift from your uncle."

Xin Tianyi looked at Zhang Liangpeng, not knowing how to refuse for a moment.

Wang Yuxiu spoke up at this moment, "Take it. Your uncle bought it for you. It's a gift from an adult, so just accept it and say thank you."

Xin Tianyi could only accept the schoolbag and said, "Thank you, uncle."

The meal was eaten very slowly. Zhang Liangpeng accompanied Wang Yuxiu in drinking. They drank and talked about factory matters. They didn't finish their conversation until almost nine o'clock.

Zhang Liangpeng was also drunk and staggering. When he left, Wang Fang hadn't returned yet. Xie Mei sent Zhang Liangpeng to the gate and said, "Liangpeng, you know the situation at home. Wang Fang has lost her husband and has a child, so life is not easy. My mistress won't say much, so you should take good care of her..."

Zhang Liangpeng struggled to stand up straight, looked at Xie Mei and said, "Master's wife, I have followed Master since I was a child, and Wang Fang is like my own sister. Don't worry."

"Okay. With you here, Master's Wife is relieved. Just walk slowly, okay?"

"I know, Master's wife, please go back quickly. Home is only two steps away."

Xie Mei waved her hand and said, "Okay, go back quickly. I'll watch you turn out of the alley."

As Zhang Liangpeng walked, he turned around and waved to Xie Mei to come in.

I got a little drunk from drinking this wine.

My stomach was churning and I felt like vomiting.

Zhang Liangpeng walked out of the alley, turned a corner, leaned against the wall and started vomiting.

As he was vomiting, he felt someone patting his back.

When I looked up, it was Zhang Yang.

Zhang Liangpeng laughed and said drunkenly, "Why are you here? Are you still awake?"

"I was out playing and saw someone vomiting here!" Zhang Yang took a photo of Zhang Liangpeng for a while, and when he saw that Zhang Liangpeng was fine, he helped him walk. "Can you walk?"

Zhang Liangpeng placed an arm on Zhang Yang's shoulders and said with relief, "He's still my son."

Zhang Yang used his crutch to support Zhang Liangpeng as he walked home.

Zhang Liangpeng looked up at Zhang Yang from time to time, and the more he looked, the more he liked him.

My son is good in every way except studying.

He is tall and good-looking. He is usually invisible, but at critical moments, his little walking stick will appear.

Thinking back to what Xin Tianyi had said to him, Zhang Yang knew clearly that he and Pei Juanjuan had wronged him. But the child didn't even say a word to defend himself.

A trace of sadness flashed through Zhang Liangpeng's heart. He turned around and wanted to say something to Zhang Yang, but swallowed it back.

He returned home in silence. When Pei Juanjuan heard the door knock, she started to scold him: "Zhang Yang, is that you? What were you doing so late at night? Don't you know what time it is? Still playing at this time? You..."

Pei Juanjuan walked to the door of the living room and saw someone beside her son. She immediately came over to help him. "Why did you drink so much? Did you vomit? Look at your shoes! Zhang Yang, you're not doing anything wrong. Go to bed quickly. It's so late, and you're still running out! You've been worrying me all day!"
