Chapter 3: Reporting

Chapter 3: Reporting

Pickled radish cubes were the food Xin Tianyi hated the most in her previous life, but also the food she missed the most later on.

In her previous life, she lived with her grandmother and the dish she ate most often was this pickled radish.

The most common white radish in winter is washed, cut into pieces, and marinated directly with white vinegar, salt and sugar. Xie Mei also adds some dried chilies and puts them in a glass bottle.

Xin Tianyi always only eats the dish his aunt cooks, the one in front of her.

She would eat whatever was put in her mouth. After a long time, her aunt Liu Meilan discovered this pattern and often placed pickled radish cubes in front of Xin Tianyi.

God will only eat this one.

After a winter, a whole jar of radish cubes was eaten. At that time, my grandmother always advised Tianyi not to eat so many pickles and to eat some meat and vegetables.

In winter, all the pickled radishes are eaten up, and in summer, it’s pickled cucumbers.

For so many years, Xin Tianyi survived by eating half a steamed bun with these pickles.

The more she ate, the bitterer her mouth became, and her life became more and more difficult.

Just like there were always endless pickles in the cupboard, she thought her life was just like these pickles, meaningless.

Until Xin Tianyi grew up and her grandparents passed away one after another, she recalled those years and remembered the taste of the pickles her grandma had made, but she could never eat them again.

"What's so good about pickled radish?" Xie Mei glanced at Xin Tianyi. "Do you like it?"

Xin Tianyi nodded vigorously, "Grandma, can I have a taste now?"

"Eat it." Xie Mei couldn't help laughing. She was greedy for many things, and it was the first time she saw someone greedy for pickles. She wanted to say something, but she saw Xin Tianyi's next move.

She took a pair of clean chopsticks and a clean small bowl, opened the glass bottle, and used the chopsticks to pick out the pieces one by one and put them into the small bowl.

After clamping it, screw the lid of the glass bottle back on and put it back in its original position.

Xie Mei nodded in relief. She had been meaning to remind him, but she hadn't expected Tianyi to be so well-mannered. Unlike her son and eldest grandson, these two always found it troublesome to eat pickles, often simply reaching out and pinching them, or using their own used chopsticks to pick them up. Last time, they ruined an entire bottle of pickles, wasting everything.

Xin Tianyi took the chopsticks, held the small bowl, picked up a piece of radish and put it into his mouth.

Xie Mei couldn't help but smile when she saw her satisfied expression.

"This kid, can pickles be so delicious?"

Xin Tianyi was eating the pickled radish and was reluctant to put it down when Liu Meilan and Wang Gang came in from outside.

Liu Meilan heard some noise in the kitchen and rushed into it without even changing her shoes.

She saw Xie Mei standing at the kitchen door with her back to her, and thought Xie Mei was deliberately blocking the door while Xin Tianyi was secretly eating something inside.

Liu Meilan immediately pushed Xie Mei aside and looked inside, saying, "What is Tianyi eating? It's not even dinner time yet, why is he eating already? Did your grandma buy this especially for you?"

Before he finished speaking, he saw Xin Tianyi holding the last piece of pickled radish and waving it in the air, "Aunt, I saw some pickled radishes in the cupboard. I picked up two pieces to try. Do you want some?"

Liu Meilan saw the radish pieces clearly and felt embarrassed because she didn't catch the so-called pigtail. She put the food on the table and said, "Oh, I don't want to eat it. You eat it. I'll go change my clothes first."

Liu Meilan hurried out of the kitchen and deliberately didn't go to see Xie Mei, but she ran into Wang Gang when she went out. Wang Gang was grinning and laughing at her.

Liu Meilan grabbed Wang Gang's arm and dragged him into the bedroom. As soon as they entered the bedroom, Liu Meilan said, "Don't tell me about us going to Zhang Yang's house."

Wang Gang was surprised: "Why can't I say it?"

"Didn't you see Mom's expression just now? I felt like she was waiting to find fault with me. As for this matter, it's good enough that you know and I know it, so don't talk about it anymore. Otherwise, she'll say, 'He's the factory director, and we can't even get him...'"

"What our mother said is true. Zhang Liangpeng is now the factory director, so let's just keep quiet." Wang Gang whispered.

"Why are you being quiet? I just don't accept it. Is Zhang Liangpeng more capable or better looking than you? He was chosen as the factory director! Our dad did the same thing. He stepped down from that position and handed it over to Zhang Liangpeng. He taught Zhang Liangpeng all his skills. You are his biological son!"

Wang Gang scratched his head. "My dad said I wasn't cut out for it. I really couldn't manage such a large factory. That's why he put me in accounting from the beginning. Have you ever heard of an accountant becoming a factory manager? He didn't intend for me to do that from the beginning."

Liu Meilan raged, "Anyway, I just don't obey Zhang Liangpeng. He's already the factory director, and he can't fire you. Just be an honest accountant. He won't make things difficult for you for our dad's sake."

"So, we shouldn't have gone looking for them just now." Wang Gang whispered, "Tianyi said she accidentally bumped into someone, it wasn't intentional. Let's go look for them again..."

"Are you sure you didn't do it on purpose?" Liu Meilan put her hands on her hips. "Anyway, that's just how I am. They need to know about the bad things their son did. Not only them, but everyone living in our cotton mill compound needs to know that Director Zhang's second son has gotten into trouble again!"

When Liu Meilan and Wang Gang returned from buying groceries, they saw a lot of red paint on the ground in the courtyard. Not only on the ground, but also on the tree trunks, all painted by those unlucky kids. Liu Meilan glanced at the red gate not far away and guessed who had soiled Xin Tianyi's backpack.

But she did not go directly to Zhang Liangpeng's house, but went to Yuan Gaoyi's house first.

Yuan Gaoyi worked on the railway and was often away from home, leaving only his wife Wang Qinghua and son Yuan Dabao at home.

Liu Meilan and Wang Qinghua were good friends, and they would often chat together. Liu Meilan tried to pry Yuan Dabao's mouth open, and when she asked, the fat boy immediately confessed that it wasn't him who did it, but that she bumped into Zhang Yang and bumped into the brush in his hand, causing the red paint to get on him.

Liu Meilan easily found the "suspect" and took Wang Gang to Zhang Liangpeng's house.

The gate of Director Zhang's house had just been painted, and the paint had not dried yet, it was bright red. Liu Meilan pointed at the gate silently to Wang Gang, meaning, look, red paint!

As soon as she entered, she started to exaggerate the matter. She did not say that it was Zhang Yang who stained the backpack with red paint. She just cried about how pitiful her elder sister-in-law and her niece were. She was going to school tomorrow, and the new backpack her grandfather gave her was stained with red paint.

Zhang Liangpeng was not at home, and his wife Pei Juanjuan was furious when she heard this.

He wanted to grab Zhang Yang's neck and beat him up immediately to vent his anger.

This little bastard would cause trouble everywhere if he wasn't punished every day. It took a lot of apologies and persuasion before Liu Meilan was sent away.

"So you sold me out?"

Zhang Yang glared at Yuan Dabao and asked.

Yuan Dabao felt very aggrieved and could only say, "I didn't do that. She said it was me, so I accidentally said your name. And I told her that you didn't dirty her backpack on purpose. She just bumped into you by accident and hit your brush..."

Zhang Yang said, "My mother won't listen to this."

He glanced at Yuan Dabao and said, "But you came to tell me this specifically. You're quite loyal!"

Yuan Dabao smiled and said, "I knew you were at Wei Ran's house, so I came here to tell you the news."

"Well, I'll stay at your house tonight," Zhang Yang said to Yuan Dabao. "Who told you to sell me out? I'm not going home tonight. I'll wait until my mom calms down before I go back."

"Okay." Yuan Dabao said immediately, "I'll go home and tell my mom. She'll definitely agree."

"Who made you your mom's favorite?" Zhang Yang snorted. "You're just an only child! Unlike me, my mom and dad only have eyes for my brother. I was just picked up from the trash can."

"You will come home with me in a while, have dinner and sleep at my house, and then we will go to school together tomorrow morning." Yuan Dabao has already planned everything.

Wei Ran pushed his glasses aside, put the book on the table, and said slowly, "This isn't a good idea. I think you should go home and explain things to your aunt first. You didn't mean it, and she won't say anything."

"Even if I say I didn't mean it, my mom won't believe me. Besides, she'll say, if it wasn't intentional, why would someone come to my house? Anyway, I'm not going back. If I go back, I'll get beaten up." Zhang Yang said nonchalantly, then put his arm around Yuan Dabao's shoulders, "Brother, I'm hanging out with you tonight!"

"Don't worry, brother!" Yuan Dabao vowed, "As long as I ask, my mother will agree to anything!"

After Yuan Dabao finished speaking, he became indignant. "It's that little girl. Why is she making accusations? And she even asked the adults to come to our house! She was the one who bumped into us, and she's saying it's our fault. But have you seen her? There's no such person in our compound."

Wei Ran shook his head. "I haven't seen it either. But she was very nice at the time, saying that she bumped into it on her own and didn't blame us. Now her family is looking for her again. There might be some misunderstanding."

Zhang Yang thought of those sparkling eyes and asked, "Who came to your house?"

"Oh, Wang Mingjie's mother." Yuan Dabao immediately clenched his fist and said, "Don't let me see her again. She's one thing to your face and another behind your back. She's not a good person!"
