Chapter 70 Farewell
Compared to her previous lack of energy, Xie Mei suddenly felt stronger for some reason.
She asked Wang Fang to call Xin Tianyi and Wang Mingjie. When the two children stood in front of her, Xie Mei reached out her hand tremblingly and held one in each hand.
"You are brother and sister. Remember that." Xie Mei murmured, "Just like your mom and dad, you are the closest relatives. Although you are not blood siblings, but each family only has one child, so you are the closest relatives."
Xie Mei looked at Wang Mingjie again: "It doesn't matter whether you can get into college or not. You only have one life to live, so just try your best. You should be happy. Don't make your mother look unhappy every day. It makes her feel uncomfortable too."
Xin Tianyi and Wang Mingjie both nodded desperately, neither of them daring to let Xie Mei see them crying.
"God's will." Xie Mei turned to Xin Tianyi again. She tried to open her eyes wide and looked at Xin Tianyi. After a few seconds, she smiled. "Good boy, you are my good boy."
After Xie Mei finished saying this, she took a long breath, then waved her hand, indicating that the two children should go out first.
Xin Tianyi and Wang Mingjie stood at the bedroom door, one on each side, pressed tightly against the door frame, looking inside, tears streaming down their cheeks.
I didn't hear what Xie Mei said inside. When she was talking to them just now, she still had some strength, but by the end, she was almost out of breath.
I don’t know how long it took, but Xin Tianyi heard Wang Fang shouting, followed by wailing, and the whole bedroom was filled with crying.
Xin Tianyi felt his legs go weak.
Just when she was about to fall, Wang Mingjie caught her.
Wang Yuxiu walked out of the room, looking ahead.
When he passed by the two of them, he said, "Go in."
Xin Tianyi seemed to have lost his hearing and could not hear anything.
She couldn't even feel the emotion when Wang Yuxiu said these three words, nor could she hear Wang Mingjie, who was supporting him, asking her if she could walk.
Xin Tianyi was carried by Wang Mingjie into Xie Mei's bedroom.
In the bedroom, Wang Fang lay on Xie Mei and cried loudly, and so did Wang Gang. Liu Meilan was crying, and when she saw the two children coming in, she hurriedly said, "Mingjie, look at your grandma. Tianyi, you too."
Xin Tianyi didn't know how long he cried. When he came to his senses, he remembered that Wang Yuxiu was missing.
Xin Tianyi ran away from home. A night had passed and the sky was about to dawn.
There was no one in the compound, only Wang Yuxiu was sitting alone on a bench in the compound.
Xin Tianyi looked at Wang Yuxiu's back, and tears filled his eyes again.
Xin Tianyi knew that Wang Yuxiu needed to relieve himself at this time.
All she could do now was to watch from afar.
…
Xie Mei's farewell ceremony was simple. Xie Mei had few relatives, and most of those close to her had already passed away. Only a few relatives came to see her off. Wang Fang and Wang Gang also wanted Xie Mei to pass away peacefully, but they were surprised that everyone showed up on the day of the funeral.
As the first generation of workers at the cotton mill, Wang Yuxiu and Xie Mei had personally taught countless apprentices. On the morning of the funeral, the family's rooms, courtyard, main gate, and alley entrance were packed with people.
Everyone came to see Xie Mei off.
There were also several workers who were about the same age as Xie Mei. They gathered together and sighed. To be honest, they didn't expect it to happen so soon. They seemed to have seen her out for a walk a few days ago.
Nothing lasts forever.
The workers at the cotton mill all knew each other. After looking around, some of them asked why Director Zhang didn't come.
Zhang Liangpeng was Wang Yuxiu's last apprentice, and the one to whom he taught everything he knew. Zhang Liangpeng had come to the cotton mill at a very young age, and Wang Yuxiu, seeing that he was about the same age as his own children, took pity on him and often let him stay at his home, treating him like his own son.
Xie Mei too.
But no one saw Zhang Liangpeng and his family, so they started to criticize him. After all, they lived so close, and Wang Yuxiu and Xie Mei were so kind to him.
Later, Zhang Liangpeng came, a little late, but still came.
As soon as he arrived, he hugged Wang Yuxiu and burst into tears. He didn't know what to say. He just kept saying it was too sudden.
Pei Juanjuan and Zhang Yang followed behind.
Xin Tianyi didn't know how long it had been since he last saw Zhang Yang. Ever since the exams were over and Xie Mei was in poor health, Xin Tianyi hadn't seen Zhang Yang.
Zhang Yang never came to see her either.
The moment he saw Zhang Yang, Xin Tianyi seemed to not recognize him.
After just a few days of not seeing each other, Zhang Yang seemed to have lost weight.
His hair was long and had not been cut. It was the first time Xin Tianyi had seen his hair so long.
Zhang Yang had been following Pei Juanjuan. When he saw Xin Tianyi, he nodded slightly at her as a greeting.
The two of them didn't communicate anymore.
Pei Juanjuan was also silent, a rare sight. She had lost weight, looking completely different, as if she hadn't eaten in days. Following Zhang Liangpeng, she staggered as she walked, seemingly on the verge of falling.
Wang Qinghua and Du Lurui ran around to help. There was a lot to do on the day of the funeral, so the two of them came together early.
After seeing Pei Juanjuan, Wang Qinghua hurried over and whispered to her, "I went to your house to look for you last night, but the door was locked. Lu Rui and I went to look for you again today, but the door was still locked. Are you both not home?"
Pei Juanjuan had no expression on her face. She looked up at Wang Qinghua and pointed to her throat.
"What's wrong?" Wang Qinghua asked immediately.
Zhang Yang explained from behind: "My mother is speechless."
Wang Qinghua understood immediately and turned to Du Lurui, saying, "She was heartbroken after learning that Old Madam Xie had passed away. She was so angry that she suddenly lost her voice. Well, I know you were deeply in love, but fortunately, the old lady passed away without any illness or disaster. She passed away without pain. She was just old, so it can be considered a happy funeral."
"Yes." Du Lurui said immediately, then looked at Zhang Yang: "Wait until this is over, and get some medicine for your mother. Get some for your father too, I think he's a little bit exhausted."
Zhang Yang's eyes were dark and had heavy dark circles under them. He simply nodded at the two of them and said, "Okay."
