Chapter 18: The Self-Torture Strategy
The mansion was in chaos.
Qu Xi, who was surrounded by the warmth and softness of the woman, was awakened by the sound of the housekeeper's voice outside the door. "The person has been rescued, but he is not breathing. My Lord, please go and check on him."
Aunt Miao hurriedly helped Qu Xian put on her clothes.
Her hands were shaking badly.
"Don't be afraid," Qu Xi grabbed her hand and said softly, "This has nothing to do with you."
Aunt Miao raised her eyes, her eyes full of trust and attachment.
But for some reason, she always felt that the Marquis looked at her affectionately, but it didn't seem like he was really looking at her.
Qu Qi quickly dressed and went to the main courtyard.
The servants hurriedly rescued Song and carried her to the bed.
Song closed her eyes tightly, her face was pale, and it was impossible to tell whether she was dead or alive.
Qu Lianzhi was also released. She was kneeling in front of the bed, holding Song's hand and crying, "Mother, please wake up. Don't scare your daughter. Please wake up."
Song's two sons also learned the news that their mother had hanged herself.
They hurried to Song's room, feeling both distressed and angry.
"I'm going to kill that woman!"
Qu Yi said as he was about to get the knife.
He felt that his mother hanged herself because his father carried the newlyweds.
"Don't be impulsive!" Qu Heng was calmer than him, "Save mother first."
He calmly ordered, "Go to the Song family to report the news and have grandpa go to the palace to invite the imperial physician."
The old lady was supported by Qu Ling and hurried over. She asked in a panic, "How is the person?"
If he really died in Dingxiang Marquis's mansion in such an unclear manner, there would be trouble in the future.
"She's angry, she's angry," Qu Lianzhi shouted, "Mom is angry."
The servants surrounding the bed reached out to feel and found that there was indeed breath.
Everyone was surprised.
The heavy atmosphere in the room relaxed a lot.
The old lady's heart finally settled down.
Only then did I realize that my legs were a little weak.
"Don't worry, grandma," Qu Ling supported her. "Madam has children, status, wealth and splendor. How could she die so easily?"
She couldn't bear to die.
Qu Xi happened to come in and heard it, frowning, "What are you talking about?"
He felt a mixture of anger and unease, and he vented his anger on Qu Ling, "I've really been too indulgent with you."
It's a stark difference from the attitude of the past few days.
"She was trying to comfort me," the old lady spoke up for Qu Ling. "Why are you scolding her? Go see your wife right away."
As Qu Xian walked in, Qu Heng and Qu Yi knelt before him, choking with sobs, "Father, even if Mother made a mistake, her crime doesn't deserve death. Please, considering her tireless efforts over the years, don't blame her anymore!"
Qu Lianzhi chimed in, "Father, Mother is disheartened and has given up her life. No matter how angry you are, it's time to calm down."
Qu Xi looked at the three children with mixed feelings.
"Dad, Madam must have realized her mistake. If anything happens to her, won't my younger brothers and sisters be the ones to suffer?" Qu Ling's eyes were red. "I've been motherless since I was a child, and I can't let them be motherless too."
Qu Lianzhi's heart skipped a beat.
She didn't believe that Qu Ling was so kind.
Song on the bed let out a low moan, and everyone's eyes turned to her.
"My Lord," Song said weakly, a tear trickling down her cheek. "I didn't teach my daughter well, letting her do something like that. I've been incredibly wrong all these years."
Qu Lianzhi quickly knelt straight up and cried, "Mother, it's my fault. I shouldn't have ruined Aunt Miao's good fortune."
She turned around, kowtowed to Qu Qin, wiped her tears with her sleeves and said, "Daddy, I was wrong. I will go and apologize to my aunt..."
Qu Ling quietly hid behind the old lady and watched the show.
"Get up," Qu Xi said, "this won't happen again."
Just when Qu Lianzhi breathed a sigh of relief, he said again, "Linjianyuan is not suitable for you to live in. Move to your mother's place and let her control you. You are old enough and should not act so recklessly."
Qu Lianzhi was dumbfounded and couldn't believe it.
“Daddy…”
"Leave Lianzhi with me, and let the Marquis teach Ah Heng himself," Song interrupted her, struggling to sit up and breathing heavily. "He is the eldest son of the Marquisate. I, a mother with bad behavior, will only ruin his future..."
As he spoke, he burst into tears, which caused another violent coughing fit.
Qu Yi remained silent but clenched his fists.
The eldest brother is the eldest son and should be taught by his father. The elder sister is the only daughter and should also be taught carefully. What about him?
Qu Ling saw every trace of jealousy and sadness in his eyes.
Qu Ling let out a breath.
Having too many children is really not a good thing.
When parents are partial, it will cause estrangement among their children.
"A Ling, I'm sorry..."
Qu Ling, who was in a daze, was suddenly called out, and his heart trembled.
"I was blinded by greed and wanted to die, but the King of Hell refused to take my life. He probably thought my sins were too great..."
She burst into tears.
Qu Ling was in a complicated mood.
How should she respond to this?
"Madam... there's no need to do this..." Qu Ling muttered.
Song's sincere look made Qu Ling's hair stand on end.
She had a gentle smile on her face, and her tone was softer than ever before, "I should make it up to you."
"I have decided to divide my dowry into two parts. You and Lianzhi will each take half. You will get as much as Lianzhi gets."
Qu Ling smiled slightly, and said respectfully, "Thank you, Madam."
She had no reason to refuse.
No matter what her conspiracy is, no one can resist money.
"Speaking of dowry, my mother's dowry was also kept by Madam," Qu Ling's eyes were bright like stars in the sky, "Madam, please give my mother's dowry to me as well."
Although Xu Zhaoyue is an orphan, her deceased parents left her a lot of things.
She had a close relationship with the eldest princess, so these things were preserved and are worth a lot of money.
The old lady frowned slightly and suddenly said, "When you get married in the future, your mother's dowry will naturally be given to you as a dowry. It's not right for a girl to take the dowry herself."
She didn't know why Qu Ling suddenly brought up this matter.
Song's thoughts turned slightly, "A Ling is now under the care of the old lady. In my opinion, it would be better to give the late lady's dowry to the old lady for safekeeping."
"When Aling gets married in the future, I'll count the money and give her more dowry."
This move was exactly what the old lady wanted.
Xu Zhaoyue's things were carefully guarded during his lifetime, and fell into the hands of the Song family after his death.
She couldn't get a hand in at all.
The old woman brought the dowry list and presented it to the old lady.
No one asked what Qu Ling meant.
"A Ling, what do you think of this?" Song said with a smile.
She wanted to see how Qu Ling would answer.
Either he breaks off relations with the old lady, or his efforts are in vain.
Want to get your dowry back? It's not that easy.
"That's great," Qu Ling said, looking at the old lady affectionately and smiling brightly. "Let's also give the half that the lady promised me to Grandmother for safekeeping."
Song felt her heart pounding.
The old lady smiled happily and hugged Qu Ling tighter.
He is truly her good grandson.
