Chapter 50: Falling to Death
It was a very nice day on the day of the engagement banquet.
Liu Xuan was wearing a brand new brocade robe, and the whip wounds on his back were still aching.
He stood woodenly in the flower hall, watching the servants busying in and out. His ears were filled with festive sounds, but they only sounded harsh.
Qu Mingyue straightened his clothes, her eyes filled with guilt and heartache, "A Xuan, I'm sorry for you..."
As she spoke, tears almost rolled down her face.
"You don't look well. Do you want to find a room to rest first?"
Liu Xuan shook his head, his voice hoarse, "My son wants to go out for a walk."
Qu Mingyue hesitated to speak, and finally sighed softly, "Don't go too far, let someone follow you."
Liu Xuan responded, turned around and left.
The servant behind him followed closely, which made him furious, "Get away from me!"
The servant did not dare to disobey and had to follow from a distance.
Liu Xuan was wandering aimlessly and absent-minded.
Passing by a secluded path, a maidservant with an unfamiliar face suddenly appeared from behind a rockery.
The maid was pretty and graceful. She bowed with her brows lowered and said, "Sir, the Second Miss has asked me to invite you to meet her at Taiyun Pavilion."
Her voice was loud enough for the servant standing far away to hear.
The servant saw Liu Xuan's originally gloomy face gradually brighten up and had a bad feeling.
He often follows Liu Xuan.
I also roughly know some of the reasons why the prince was beaten.
He doesn't want to marry the good county lady, but insists on falling in love with Miss Qu.
Why can't I get over it?
He hesitated, whether to go forward to stop it or to inform his wife.
Liu Xuan, however, smiled happily, "Second cousin, do you really want to see me?"
The maid pursed her lips and smiled, and moved her sleeves slightly, revealing a small part of the glass flower hairpin, which was the one he had given to Qu Lianzhi.
Liu Xuan's heartbeat suddenly quickened.
His Adam's apple rolled, "I am sorry for my second cousin."
She said she would not marry Qu Ling, but then she broke her promise.
The maid bowed her head and said, "The young lady said that after today, you will be hers, and she has a lot to say to you."
Liu Xuan no longer hesitated and strode towards Taiyun Pavilion.
The servant behind him wanted to follow, but was stopped by the maid, "The young lady has ordered that only the prince be invited."
The servant still wanted to follow, but Liu Xuan stood up and kicked him.
He couldn't bear it at all and flew far away. He felt a sharp pain in his chest and fell to the ground.
"Let's go." Liu Xuan was impatient and didn't care about the servant's life or death.
After Liu Xuan left, the servant climbed up with difficulty.
He had to tell his wife immediately, otherwise if something embarrassing happened at the engagement party, he would definitely be the first one to be beaten to death.
Taiyun Pavilion is the most secluded building in the Marquis' Mansion, and few people come here on weekdays.
After Liu Xuan went upstairs, he saw a slim figure standing in front of the window with her back to the door, but she was wearing a maid's clothes.
"Lianzhi?" he called softly.
The figure did not look back.
Liu Xuan took two steps forward and smelled a faint fragrance. His heart warmed and he reached out to grab her shoulder.
But he didn't expect to meet Qu Ling's half-smile.
She was leaning against the window, playing with a glass bead flower with her fingertips.
He was very familiar with that pearl flower.
"Why are you here?" Liu Xuan's face suddenly changed. "How did the pearl flower end up in your hands?"
Qu Ling raised his eyes and raised his eyebrows slightly, "Do you hope that Qu Lianzhi is here?"
After his thoughts were exposed, Liu Xuan calmed down.
He simply stopped hiding it and sneered, "Since you know it, it doesn't matter."
He glanced at Qu Ling calmly, "Although I will marry you, I won't like you. You will marry into the Duke's Mansion, take care of your husband and children, and be filial to your parents-in-law. You will have your own place."
"And then?" Qu Ling suddenly smiled, and his fingertips gently fiddled with the tassels on the pearl flower.
Liu Xuan frowned, "What then?"
Qu Ling said slowly and interestingly, "I'll take Qu Lianzhi as your concubine and stay with her forever?"
"As your wife, I will take care of the household for you. Will you two, a pair of star-crossed lovers, grow old together?"
With every word she spoke, she took a step forward.
Liu Xuan's face turned pale and red.
He was furious and asked, "How could Lianzhi be my concubine?"
"Then she's not meant to be with you," Qu Ling chuckled. "She'll marry someone else and live with him forever."
Liu Xuan was furious, "I won't let her marry anyone else!"
"What should we do then?" Qu Ling asked.
Liu Xuan blurted out, "Of course she will be the principal wife in the future, and you will be the concubine!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he regretted it.
Even if you think so, you can't say it out loud.
Liu Xuan looked away awkwardly, but continued, "Don't think you can be arrogant just because you have the eldest princess backing you up. Lian Zhi is the crown prince..."
"Are you done?" Qu Ling interrupted him impatiently, her eyebrows lowered and the pearl flowers in her hands swung.
"not yet……"
"Can I take you to see someone?" Qu Ling looked up and smiled brightly.
"who?"
"Yama."
Qu Ling's smiling face suddenly turned cold, and he suddenly stretched out his hand and pushed Liu Xuan.
Liu Xuan subconsciously stepped back and didn't let Qu Ling touch him.
But his knees hurt and he fell down.
He quickly reached for the railing, but heard a cracking sound.
The next moment, the whole person fell down uncontrollably.
Liu Xuan stretched out his hand to grab, but he could not catch anything and could only feel himself falling.
His cry for help echoed in Taiyun Pavilion, but was completely silenced by the sound of heavy objects falling.
"Girl, let's go quickly." Su Shang jumped down from the beam.
It was she who hit Liu Xuan's knee with the pearl just now.
"Did I kill him?" Qu Ling looked at his hands.
"No, he fell to his death." Su Shang was sure.
Qu Ling's eyebrows curved, "I didn't touch him. He thought I was going to push him, so he backed away. But he couldn't stand steadily. He broke the railing of Taiyun Pavilion that had just been repaired. What a pity."
She picked up the pearls on the ground and jumped down from Taiyun Pavilion with Su Shang.
Liu Xuan was lying on the ground, blood spreading under him, his eyes wide open, looking very scary.
Taiyun Pavilion was named so because it is very high and one can enjoy the clouds close to the sky.
Don't be afraid of falling and not dying.
Qu Ling was wearing a maid's clothes, lowered her head, and left as if nothing had happened.
Today is the engagement banquet, so she has to dress up nicely.
In the flower hall, Qu Mingyue learned that Liu Xuan was going to meet Qu Lianzhi, and she felt angry and helpless.
She felt sorry for her son, but the situation in the Duke's Mansion was critical and there was really nothing she could do.
With so many people watching, it was impossible for him to leave the hall and retrieve his son.
"I'll deal with you when I get home. Why don't you go and call the prince back, you useless thing." Qu Mingyue glared at the servant, then forced a smile and greeted him.
The servant was in great pain and felt very aggrieved. He hurried to Taiyun Pavilion with a lot of resentment.
But he saw a scene that he would never forget.
"Someone's dead..." His terrified voice echoed from Taiyun Pavilion to the flower hall, and he cried out while rolling and crawling, "The prince is dead, the prince fell to his death!"
