The International Design Awards are highly prestigious designer awards that bring together many renowned designers.
The International Design Award does not award prizes immediately. Instead, the shortlisted works are exhibited for three days for the public to appreciate, and the awards ceremony is held after three days.
Chu Fang glanced around; the room was full of designers discussing the shortlisted works.
He sighed.
Although he is a designer, his skills have long been wasted, and he cannot fit in. Moreover, his English is very poor, unlike his wife, Ms. Zhong, who speaks fluent English.
My wife is really amazing.
He, Yu Jun, and Wang Dachui sat in a corner, bored and lost in thought.
“Mr. Chu,” Wang Dachui said in broken Chinese, “can I ask you a question?”
"explain."
"How did you find a beauty like Miss Zhong?" Wang Dachui asked, his deep blue eyes wide. "I want one too."
Chu Fang: "..."
Wang Dachui's exquisitely beautiful face, resembling that of a Barbie doll, always makes people forget her unique sexual orientation... ...in this land, it's not considered unique, but rather quite normal.
In just one day, the unique scenery of the United States refreshed Chu Fang's worldview: male-male, female-female, human-animal, human-plastic bags... ...yes, plastic bags.
Walking down the street, an old man said that the plastic bag was his wife.
Compared to the Chinese server, the international server is still too advanced.
He shrugged: "Fate."
"I envy you so much," Wang Dachui said. "I really wish Miss Zhong could be my lover."
"A lover? You're going to make Zhong Tingyue your lover?" Chu Fang raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you going to marry her?"
This place allows same-sex marriage.
“I already have a wife,” Wang Dachui said seriously. “Not only do I have a wife, I also have two girlfriends, three lovers, and five partners.”
"Miss Zhong is so beautiful that she can't be compared to other girls, so I can only be her lover. This is the only way to show my love for her."
Chu Fang twitched the corner of his mouth and asked quietly, "Are you able to manage?"
A kiss from mom!
This isn't just a sea queen, it's practically the ocean itself.
“I can handle it,” Wang Dachui replied in a deep voice.
"What are you talking about?" Zhong Tingyue's voice came over. "Mr. Chu, you're bored here anyway, why don't you go out for a walk? You've come all this way to the United States, go and see some foreign scenery."
"Aren't you bored in this unfamiliar place?"
“Not boring at all.” Zhong Tingyue shook her head. “I really like these shortlisted works and want to see more of them to learn from others’ strengths. Besides, I’m video chatting with my college classmates and we’re talking about these shortlisted works.”
"Then watch out, I'm leaving."
Since that was the case, Chu Fang didn't hesitate. He gestured for Wang Dachui to take care of Zhong Tingyue, and then left the exhibition site of the International Design Award with Yu Jun.
Leaving the exhibition, Chu Fang looked around and felt there was nowhere else to go.
He doesn't want to go to those so-called tourist attractions.
"Is there anything special about it that you can't see in China?" he asked Yu Jun.
“Hmm… …” Yu Jun pondered for a moment, “There’s a strip club not far away.”
It is indeed unique, special, and erotic.
Chu Fang walked along the streets of New York with his hands in his pockets, looking around.
As I passed through a small alley, I suddenly heard a sound.
Looking in the direction of the sound, two or three figures could be seen in the deep alley, seemingly beating someone up.
Chu Fang disagreed.
The United States is a place with a strong martial spirit, and fights are inevitable; they can break out anywhere.
Just now in Times Square, a white man and a black man got into a fight. The reason for the fight was simple: they didn't like each other.
Just as he was about to leave, he saw that the perpetrator was the man in the baseball cap from last night, and the victim seemed to be Zhou Yidan.
"Stop!" he shouted.
The three perpetrators stopped abruptly. The man in the baseball cap recognized Chu Fang and exclaimed happily, "Oh, man!"
The three men wanted to come up and beat up Chu Fang, but Yu Jun blocked Chu Fang's way. The 1.9-meter-tall man inadvertently revealed the weapon at his waist.
The three immediately changed their expressions and begged for mercy, then fled the scene at lightning speed.
There's an old saying that goes, "Truth is always only within the range of artillery fire."
Chu Fang quickly stepped forward to help Zhou Yidan up: "Are you alright?"
"It's okay, I'm used to it." Zhou Yidan shook her head. "As long as you curl up when you're being hit, it won't hurt that much."
"I'll take you to see a doctor."
At this moment, Zhou Yidan's hair was slightly messy, her cuffs were torn, there were red marks on her neck, bruises on her face, and cuts on the corners of her mouth.
"No." Zhou Yidan grabbed his arm. "I can't afford the medical bills."
Chu Fang insisted on taking Zhou Yidan to the hospital for treatment. They went to the nearest private hospital, where a thorough examination revealed that Zhou Yidan only had minor injuries and was otherwise fine.
Chu Fang then paid the bill; a simple injury had cost him over ten thousand US dollars.
BYD, are you a cannibal?
"I'm sorry," Zhou Yidan said, feeling embarrassed.
"Hey, it's nothing." Chu Fang waved his hand. "Actually, I'm the one who should apologize."
It's obvious that Chu Fang was involved in the incident where the man in the baseball cap beat up Zhou Yidan, and since he couldn't seek revenge against Chu Fang, he could only vent his hatred on Zhou Yidan.
"To express my gratitude, let me treat you to dinner," Zhou Yidan said.
"OK."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yidan was very happy. She took Chu Fang to her home, hailed a taxi, and arrived at the local Chinatown.
Upon entering Chinatown, Chu Fang instantly felt as if she had returned to China: Chinese restaurants, traditional Chinese characters, traditional craft shops...
There are also three-wheeled vehicles operating on the road, with loudspeakers on them hawking their goods.
"How does this place compare to our motherland?" Zhou Yidan asked.
"Hmm..." Chu Fang stroked his chin and thought for a moment, "This place has a more traditional feel."
This Chinatown looks similar to tourist attractions in China, while most parts of China are highly modernized with towering buildings.
“It’s just broken down.” Zhou Yidan smiled. “If we had a choice, we would prefer a more comfortable place, not this one.”
“The New York City government discriminates against us and is unwilling to spend money to renovate this place. Over the years, this place has become unsuitable for living. But we have no choice; if we don’t live here, we have nowhere else to go.”
Chu Fang remained silent.
Skyscrapers may seem monotonous and lack aesthetic appeal, but it's undeniable that living in them is far more comfortable and reassuring than in these old houses.
Nowadays, many people criticize skyscrapers and miss the old houses of the past.
In Chu Fang's opinion, it's fine to talk about it, but to actually move in would be just plain crazy.
