Alright, now that he knew the real reason, Chu Fang went home. Luckily, only the power went out, not the gas.
Turn on your phone's flashlight and continue making dinner.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and Zhong Tingyue said, "The power is out in the neighborhood."
"Um."
"Then let's go out to eat."
"It'll be ready soon."
Zhong Tingyue didn't say much. She took off her clothes and went to the kitchen to help out. Dinner was ready in no time.
Chu Fang rummaged through drawers and cabinets, found a few candles, lit them, melted the pointed end of the candle and dripped it onto the table, then placed the candle on the melted wax. The three candles lit instantly, illuminating the entire room.
It wasn't very bright, but it was enough to dispel the surrounding darkness.
Three courses were laid out on the table. The two sat facing each other, and in the dim candlelight, Zhong Tingyue's face was particularly striking: "Western food, candles, it's like a candlelight dinner."
At this point, Chu Fang hurriedly returned to the kitchen and rummaged through the refrigerator for a bottle of red wine: "1982 Lafite, it's really expensive, want a bottle?"
"OK."
Zhong Tingyue wasn't very interested in drinking and didn't like it, but she would be more interested in having a drink tonight to celebrate.
The two men clinked glasses, each holding a bright red wine. Chu Fang took a sip, while Zhong Tingyue raised her head and downed the rest in an instant.
Chu Fang: "... ..., that's not how you drink red wine. You have to sip it slowly."
Zhong Tingyue rolled her eyes: "Too many rules."
While eating lemon-roasted chicken wings, he hummed softly, "These chicken wings taste pretty good."
"That's right, a chicken wing costs several thousand yuan, it's ridiculously expensive."
Chu Fang held the red wine, straightened his posture slightly, and prepared to say a few words during the candlelight dinner tonight, since the atmosphere was right. However, seeing Zhong Tingyue looking like a starving ghost, completely absorbed in eating and losing all manners, he couldn't bring himself to say anything.
"Huh? What are you trying to say?"
"Have a meal."
The two seemed to be born foodies. Under the warm candlelight, they didn't talk much, focusing only on the food on the table. It wasn't until they were full that Chu Fang realized what was happening.
Tonight is going to be a candlelight dinner!
What a heartwarming moment, yet they were only focused on eating.
Depend on!
What a waste of such a great atmosphere.
After dinner, the power was still out, so the two of them each took a pet for a walk. The whole of Shanghai had power, except for the Tanhua residential area.
Zhong Tingyue watched as her boyfriend ran a few steps forward, jumped high, picked a willow branch from the roadside, and presented it to her as if it were a treasure.
She then accepted it, and also took the rope that was holding the little blond boy from Chu Fang's hand.
When he jumped high just now, the little blond guy almost flew into the air and let out a scared scream.
The man jumped high without noticing that he was holding a dog on a leash.
Even so, the little yellow dog remained cheerful, leaving Zhong Tingyue speechless at the sight of this mongrel.
"You seem very happy?" Zhong Tingyue pursed her lips.
"Is there?"
"There should be."
"It's not so much happiness, but a sense of freedom." Chu Fang linked his arm with his girlfriend's, resting his head on her shoulder, striking a docile pose. "I've discovered that this world is quite beautiful—people, things, animals, even cells. And in this vast universe, how remarkable it is that we humans have become intelligent beings..."
Chu Fang spoke softly about his perception of the world, while Zhong Tingyue listened quietly.
Men are usually most clear-headed in bed, often thinking about things unrelated to themselves, such as the vast starry sky and the origins of humanity. Chu Fang is different; he does think in bed, and sometimes he does these kinds of thoughts, which he then shares with her.
Generally speaking, Zhong Tingyue is a listener.
From the origin of the universe to the evolution of humankind, Chu Fang suddenly lost track of what he was saying. After a moment's thought, he waved his hand.
Never mind, I won't say anything more.
Zhong Tingyue thought to herself, "Men are truly dashing creatures."
The two took a walk, strolled around, and went to a supermarket to buy daily necessities.
Whenever Chu Fang went to a shopping mall, he would become as excited as a child going wild, pushing a shopping cart and buying all sorts of things: snacks, toys, models, clothes, stools... ... anything that caught his eye, he would buy.
Zhong Tingyue followed behind, putting away any unused items.
Chu Fang turned around: "Ms. Zhong, this is no fun at all."
“You don’t need it, so why buy it? It’s a waste,” Zhong Tingyue said.
"Can't I just buy it and keep it as a keepsake?"
"There are already too many 'ancestors' at home, we can't fit them all in."
It wasn't that Zhong Tingyue forbade Chu Fang from buying; she never intended to suppress Chu Fang, but rather let him do whatever he wanted.
However... there are just too many strange and unusual things in the house, which take up a lot of space.
I bought some everyday items and returned home, but the power was still out in the neighborhood. It seemed like the neighborhood hadn't had a power outage in over a decade, and they would have to dig up the ground to restore power, a rather complicated process.
I can't come tonight.
Zhong Tingyue went to the bathroom to take a shower. After showering, she took out a face mask and put it on her face.
Actually, she has never had the habit of taking care of her skin since she was a child, and she rarely buys cosmetics. All the face masks and cosmetics were bought by Chu Fang.
Chu Fang himself has no requirements for clothing or skincare, but he seems to have a great passion and love for Zhong Tingyue. Every time he goes shopping, he buys her clothes, jewelry and cosmetics, and he feels very happy doing so.
The dim candlelight dispelled the darkness. Chu Fang lay on Zhong Tingyue's lap, gazing at the face covered by the mask, looking at it intently, as if he could never get enough of it.
"Ms. Zhong, you are so beautiful."
"How beautiful?"
"Hmm..." Upon hearing this, Chu Fang stroked his chin and pondered for a few seconds: "She's like a fairy, not of this world. This woman should only exist in heaven, and only once every few thousand years in the human world. And such a great beauty, I actually managed to get my hands on her. I'm really damn amazing. Or you could say I'm incredibly handsome, so incredibly handsome that I could get you. That's because I'm handsome!"
Zhong Tingyue: "... ..."
Aren't you praising me?
How come, as they talked, they ended up shamelessly praising themselves?
Have you no shame?
Chu Fang seemed to suddenly become interested, looking at her seriously and asking, "Ms. Zhong, am I handsome?"
"How about a cricket?"
"no."
"Handsome, alright?"
"whee... ..."
