Chapter 43 Don't Go Too Far
"Where are the people?" Meng Tang almost threw himself onto the bar.
The bartender looked confused: "Who is it?"
"There was a girl who got drunk just now. I'm her friend. Where is she?"
Bartender: "She was picked up by her friend."
"I'm her friend." Meng Tang frowned, "How could you let someone else take her away?"
"That person also said it was her friend. How do you prove it?"
"you--"
"Calm down." Wei Chuan held Meng Tang's shoulders and turned to ask the bartender, "Was the person who took her away a man or a woman? When did they leave?"
"Female, just left five minutes ago."
"It could also be someone from their dinner party today." Wei Chuan calmed her down. "You call Xie Lingyin first. I'll call Xu Heqing and ask what happened during the day."
The bar was noisy, and the two of them walked out the door, but Xie Lingyin's phone was turned off.
Xu Heqing answered the call quickly. Seeing Meng Tang's anxiety, Wei Chuan turned on the hands-free mode and asked Xu Heqing, "Where are you?"
"My dinner party just ended. What happened?"
"When did your daytime gathering end? Xie Lingyin went to a bar to drink alone, and now she's gone."
"What did you say?" Xu Heqing was shocked and frightened. "Where are you?"
Wei Chuan told the address.
Xu Heqing said, "She went to the hospital this afternoon. I'm busy with organizational matters. Tell me what happened."
Wei Chuan: "That night, Meng Tang received a call from Xie Lingyin, asking him to pick her up. But when he arrived at the bar, the bartender said she had been taken away by a woman."
"Call the police and have the bar check the surveillance." Xu Heqing's voice was unsteady. "I'm calling Xie Lingyin now."
"Stop calling, turn off your phone."
Xu Heqing yelled "Fuck" on the phone. Wei Chuan and Meng Tang looked at each other and decisively chose to call the police.
In less than five minutes, Xu Heqing arrived at the bar.
The police haven't arrived yet, and individuals have no right to adjust the bar's surveillance.
Xu Heqing grabbed a handful of hair and said to Meng Tang, "How could you hang up the phone at that time?"
"I--"
Wei Chuan found this unbelievable and even pushed Xu Heqing. "Why are you blaming Meng Tang? It wasn't her who asked Xie Lingyin to drink. So, what qualifications do you have to blame Meng Tang?"
Xu Heqing also got angry:
"But Meng Tang knew Xie Lingyin was drunk. What could have happened in the 20 minutes on the way to the bar? What if she—"
"Xu Heqing!" Wei Chuan saw Meng Tang's face turn pale and shouted, "Don't go too far."
Wei Chuan frowned, and a deep sense of oppression surged in his dark pupils.
It was an anger Xu Heqing had never seen before. His rationality was pieced back together bit by bit, and he said "sorry" dejectedly.
Meng Tang was not frightened by the roar. She looked up at Wei Chuan and felt warm in her heart.
She tugged at the corner of Wei Chuan's clothes and said, "Stop arguing. It's more important to find Ling Yin first."
Wei Chuan snorted coldly and said nothing more.
Xu Heqing murmured, "I shouldn't have let her go to the hospital."
Meng Tang glanced over and saw that Xu Heqing had always been the one who was in control, but it turned out that he could also get so angry that he lost his mind.
Wei Chuan became angrier and angrier, and turned around to grab Meng Tang's wrist:
"I'll take you back to school first, so that if the surveillance fails to detect you, some people will blame you."
"Don't," Meng Tang gestured for him to look at the roadside, "The police are here."
The police car stopped and the police officer got out and asked who called the police. Wei Chuan raised his hand slightly and told the police what happened.
Just as they were about to enter the bar, Meng Tang's cell phone rang.
Seeing it was Shi Lan, she picked up the phone.
Shi Lan said Xie Lingyin was drunk and asked her to go back through the east gate and take a cup of brown sugar ginger tea.
Meng Tang stopped abruptly: "Lingyin went back?"
Xu Heqing turned around and stopped, signaling Meng Tang to turn on the speakerphone.
Meng Tang hurriedly turned on the hands-free mode, and Shi Lan replied on the phone: "I'm back. I don't know where I got drunk. My senior from upstairs brought me back."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Meng Tang hung up the phone and wanted to tell the police about the situation, but Wei Chuan stopped him and walked forward to apologize with a smile on his face.
The police officer said, "As long as the person is okay, that's fine."
Xu Heqing paused and said to Meng Tang, "I'm sorry, I was rude just now."
Meng Tang shook his head: "It doesn't matter."
Wei Chuan stopped a car on the side of the road, opened the back door, and called Meng Tang over.
Xu Heqing didn't move. Wei Chuan pointed to the front and motioned him to sit in the passenger seat.
After getting in the car and telling the address, the three of them said nothing, which made the driver look at them several times.
Wei Chuan tilted his head slightly and saw Meng Tang's gaze fall on Xu Heqing in front of him. He felt an inexplicable dissatisfaction in his heart.
The taxi soon stopped at the east gate of Z University, and Meng Tang quietly went to a fresh stew restaurant that was quite popular among girls.
It is winter now, and Xie Lingyin is drunk. Drinking brown sugar ginger tea can drive away the cold and warm the stomach.
Xu Heqing was outside the door and said to Wei Chuan, "When you send her back to the dormitory, please say sorry for me."
Wei Chuan sneered and swallowed the words "Why don't you say it yourself?"
Seeing that he was still awkward, Xu Heqing chuckled and softened his attitude: "I don't know how to coax people, can you help me?"
Wei Chuan said "hmm" condescendingly: "It's difficult for me."
Xu Heqing saw through it but didn't say anything: "Then I'll go back to the dormitory first."
He couldn't see Xie Lingyin anyway, so he let her rest for a night and would settle the score with her tomorrow.
Meng Tang came out but didn't see Xu Heqing, nor did he ask. Seeing Wei Chuan still following him, he turned around and said, "You should go back too."
"I'll take you downstairs." Wei Chuan glanced at her face cautiously, "Xu Heqing is a bastard. You can curse at him a few times, but I will never complain."
Meng Tang laughed: "Why would I scold him?"
Wei Chuan said "Oh" in a sarcastic tone: "I understand. It's because she's the one I like, so I can't bear to let her go."
Meng Tang: "...When did I say that?"
Of course she felt aggrieved, but finding Xie Lingyin was the most important thing at that time, so she could only suppress her grievances.
She felt inexplicably relieved when she didn't see Xu Heqing after shopping just now.
Because of what happened tonight, she began to think about withdrawing from Xu Heqing.
"So what do you think?" Wei Chuan muttered.
"I'm not thinking about anything." Meng Tang said, "I just want to go upstairs and bring the brown sugar ginger tea to Lingyin."
Wei Chuan couldn't hide her depressed tone. When they reached the girls' dormitory, he suddenly said, "Let me tell you a joke."
Meng Tang raised her head without saying a word. Wei Chuan thought she was waiting and said:
"The wife asked her husband to buy groceries, saying, 'Buy five steamed buns after get off work, and if you see a watermelon seller, buy one.' But her husband brought back only one steamed bun. When the wife questioned him, he said he did see a watermelon seller."
Meng Tang looked at him without smiling.
Wei Chuan touched the back of his head awkwardly: "We're here, you can go up."
Meng Tang entered the elevator and suddenly laughed out loud, a little late.
My depressed mood has improved a lot because of this realization.
