Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Shen Jiao had no idea what he was angry about.

They were talking peacefully last night, but he suddenly got angry. This morning he ignored her again, didn't eat his meal properly, and walked past her with a cold face when he left.

There was a dark spot under his eyes, as if he had not slept well.

The maid who was on night watch said that he tossed and turned until very late, and when he woke up in the morning he was cursing again. No one knew who he was cursing, maybe he had a nightmare.

It's very confusing.

Qiongzhi asked worriedly, "Sister, why does the young master seem angry with you again?"

Shen Jiao shook her head and said, "I don't know either."

Yinhua heard this and said comfortingly, "It's okay. It might be because it's too hot and you're irritable. You accidentally let some sparks fly and the firecrackers ignite again. It will be fine soon. Go get the basket quickly. It's still early, so go get some fresh fruits and vegetables."

Last night Shen Jiao told her that he wanted to go to the big kitchen with her to get something.

After hearing this, Jin Yu laughed at her and said that she just liked to watch the fun and must go to see what those two people looked like.

Shen Jiao laughed twice as a sign of agreement.

Yinhua was half asleep and responded. Shen Jiao wasn't sure if she really heard it. She wanted to say it again, but she still remembered it. It was really surprising.

He quickly responded and brought the basket.

Yinhua added, "You can go, but don't ask around or talk nonsense, or I won't take care of you if you get into trouble."

Shen Jiao and Qiongzhi nodded quickly and followed her into the kitchen.

Completely different from the quiet and leisurely atmosphere of Liao'e Courtyard, the big kitchen was bustling with activity early in the morning, with people working tirelessly. The cups, plates, and bowls to be washed were all counted by basin.

The housekeeper also has a bad temper and you can hear her cursing from far away.

It seemed like someone was being lazy and started chopping the green onions without washing them. This made her extremely angry and she shouted at the top of her lungs:

"Damn it, you silly turtledove, you're so stupid, you're still trying to make me unlucky. Look at this onion with dirt all over it that made people sick. Are you going to take care of it or am I going to take care of it? I'm kind enough to keep you here, and this is how you repay me? You don't even ask around. I, Wu Yueshan, have been in charge of the kitchen for more than 20 years. When has such a disgusting mistake ever happened? But you, after only being here for a few days, are already giving me this eye drops. Is this for people to eat or for animals..."

She grabbed a handful of scallions from the chopping board, including the roots and chopped green onions, and thrust them towards the girl, prying her mouth open and saying, "Eat one, and show me."

Of course the girl couldn't open her mouth, so she just backed away, fell to the ground, sobbing and covering her face with her hands.

Two cooks advised, "Okay, Sister Wu, this little girl is ignorant and doesn't know what to do. Don't argue with her."

"It's not surprising that I got carried away for a while because I was so busy."

Someone else went to help the girl on the ground: "Stop crying, get up, the manager is doing this for your own good, just change it in the future."

Everyone was trying to persuade them, and someone even reached out to push the kitchen knife that was about to fall back inside.

The girl didn't appreciate it. She pushed away the people around her and shouted, "Who asked you to be so kind?"

Then she ran outside crying.

Wu Yueshan immediately became angry again and pointed at her back and said, "She's right!"

"Okay, okay, someone go check it out."

"Come back! No one is allowed to go. Tell her to leave. This small temple of mine doesn't worship any great gods. If you have the ability, go and climb higher!"

Wu Yueshan stretched his neck and shouted, as if he was afraid that the girl who ran away couldn't hear him.

Shen Jiao and the other two were just entering the house when they encountered this farce. They stood by and watched for a long time. When the girl ran out, Yinhua whispered in astonishment, "Tongbao?"

Not only was she surprised, Shen Jiao was also surprised.

Qiongzhi said, "Tongbao? Is she the sister who went to Hechunyuan to serve the Sixth Young Master? Why is she here?"

Yinhua was also puzzled.

The difference between the maids in the Spring Courtyard and the people in the kitchen who cut green onions without washing them is not as great as heaven and earth, but it is quite big.

But before the Tongcai Festival, Yinhua went to see her. She said happily that she had given money to Aunt Zhang and had a good place to live. She only told her after repeated inquiries, which made Yinhua very envious. How did she end up in this situation now?

"Did you see her the last time you went to the Sixth Young Master's courtyard?" Yinhua asked Shen Jiao.

"I didn't notice. There were too many people in the courtyard," Shen Jiao thought for a moment and added, "But there shouldn't be any, otherwise Sister Jin Yu would definitely greet her."

Shen Jiao hadn't known them for long, and had been with Tong Bao even shorter, but it was obvious that they had a good relationship and they certainly wouldn't pretend not to see each other when they met.

Yinhua thought, "That's right."

After all, they had worked together for many years, so she couldn't help but ask someone about it. She didn't dare to offend Wu Yueshan, so she wanted to pull someone familiar out.

The other person was busy and had no time to talk in detail. Yinhua quietly handed over a small string of copper coins, and the cook was willing to come out and chat with her.

It's simple. She was just too lazy and took advantage of the good temper of the Sixth Young Master. When she was asked to sweep the floor, she hid and slept. When she was asked to wipe the table, she urinated in the toilet. Anyway, someone would do the work, so she thought it was okay. She kept doing this and was kicked out again.

No one else wanted her, so she had to do the hard work of washing clothes and moving things. After a few days, she couldn't stand it anymore and ran back to the door of Hechunyuan and knelt down to beg. Madam Wu passed by and felt sorry for her, so she took her back to the kitchen.

Who knew he would do such a thing again.

The cook sighed and continued, "She came from your courtyard, didn't she? I really don't know how Master Seventeen tolerates her. She's been here for a few days, but her work isn't very good. She just wants to be in the masters' courtyards. She spends all day fiddling with the two strands of hair on her head. I asked her to wrap them up so they wouldn't fall into the dishes, but she insisted on leaving those two strands out. I really don't know what she's thinking. She's a good girl, but she's so rude..."

Seeing Yinhua's unhappy expression, she stopped talking and instead advised, "If you have a good relationship with her, go talk to her. She can't keep doing this for long. If she is really sent to farm or sold, who knows what will become of her."

"Oh, okay, thank you for telling me, I'll go look for her later."

"You're welcome. I have work to do. Let's talk next time."

She touched the copper coins in her arms and smiled warmly and kindly.

Yinhua's smile was very forced.

Shen Jiao whispered, "If you're worried, why don't you go and see her now? I see Sister Tongbao is crying very sadly, maybe she has something to complain about. Anyway, we just need to ask the steward to get something. We can go by ourselves. I've memorized the route."

"What grievance could she have? I've long advised her to behave herself, but she never listened. Now everyone dislikes her and even feels ashamed to say she knows me," Yinhua said angrily, then pursed her lips and warned, "Just take your things and go back. Don't cause trouble. If you don't know the way, just wait for me at the door. I'll be back soon."

Shen Jiao and Qiong Zhi agreed honestly, and she hurriedly chased after them...
