Chapter 4

Chapter 4

"How do you pick this? Can you reach it?" The two children stood under the tree and looked up.

Yun Mian stood on tiptoe and stretched out her hand to try. Her fingertips were still a long distance away from the lowest persimmon.

"You can't pick it." Zhao Xiaoli came to this conclusion just by visual inspection, frowned and said: "We have to think of a way, can you climb a tree?"

"I can!" Yun Mian nodded affirmatively: "I can climb very high!"

Although Yunmian had never climbed a tree before, this body's previous memories included climbing trees to avoid landslides, fishing in the river, chasing dogs in the mountains...there was nothing she couldn't do.

This also gave Yunmian the illusion that she could do it.

So, under Zhao Xiaoli's expectant gaze, Yun Mian seemed to hug the tree trunk very skillfully, took a deep breath and began to climb up.

After climbing about forty centimeters, Yunmian's face changed, and he slowly slid down from the tree like a boneless insect.

Yunmian: “…”

Zhao Xiaoli: “…”

The two looked at each other. Under Zhao Xiaoli's wide-eyed gaze, Yunmian scratched his head awkwardly: "I seem to have... forgotten how to crawl."

She was clearly climbing according to the movements and techniques she memorized, but why couldn't she climb up despite trying so hard?

Zhao Xiaoli took a deep breath, and after a while she still couldn't help but glared at her angrily: "Get out of the way! Let me do it!!"

Isn't it just climbing a tree? She can, she can, she can do it!!

Maybe it was because Zhao Xiaoli’s momentum was too strong. Yun Mian was stunned for a second and then obediently stepped aside, watching Zhao Xiaoli roll up his sleeves and climb up the tree.

“Come on!!” Yun Mian clenched his fists to cheer her up.

Zhao Xiaoli hugged the tree trunk tightly with all her might and moved up little by little.

She didn't know how things had turned out like this, but as the old saying goes: It's already here.

She had followed Yunmian all the way from home to the mountain, and then walked from the mountain to the persimmon tree. If Yunmian were to go home empty-handed, wouldn't all her running for so long be in vain? !

Thinking of how breathless and frightened she had been along the way, Zhao Xiaoli gritted her teeth and was determined to climb up the tree!

Yun Mian raised her face with her mouth slightly open, staring blankly at Zhao Xiaoli who had successfully climbed up the tree branch and was standing steadily. Her eyes of amazement were unconsciously filled with admiration.

"You are so awesome!!" Children's praise is always so straightforward and undisguised, and the rising tone is exaggerated yet absolutely sincere. Anyone can get an incomparable sense of accomplishment from these four simple words.

Zhao Xiaoli's face flushed with praise. She grasped the branch and pursed her lips tightly. For a long time, she could not organize a suitable answer. She only said vaguely and fiercely: "Don't waste time. I'm picking it from the tree. You must catch it firmly below, otherwise it will rot. Do you understand?"

Yun Mian didn't feel embarrassed at all because of the bullying by Zhao Xiaoli, who was younger than her. She still looked at Zhao Xiaoli on the tree with bright eyes. She listened to whatever the other party said obediently, pulling her tattered clothes, and waiting eagerly for Zhao Xiaoli to pick the persimmons and throw them down.

During this process, the system squatted on the highest persimmon and reported in a serious manner: "Task progress: 5.5%... 6.1%... %..."

The more he reported, the more confused he became. No matter how he analyzed it, he couldn't figure out what was wrong with this reborn protagonist. Not only did he not take revenge on the villain Yun Mian, but he also helped her climb trees and pick fruits.

Zhao Xiaoli picked a wild persimmon, squatted on a branch and handed it down, her voice trembling: "I'm throwing it down now, you, you must catch it firmly."

"Okay~" Yun Mian answered obediently, standing on tiptoe and trying to lift the spread out clothes up.

Zhao Xiaoli found the right angle and relaxed gently.

The tiny wild persimmon just slid down and was caught firmly by the clothes.

Yunmian stretched her head to look inside her clothes, looked at the persimmon, squinted her eyes and was as happy as if she had picked up money.

He is very useless and has no class. He doesn't look like a villain at all.

But Zhao Xiaoli just liked Yun Mian's silly smile so much that even though she was extremely scared, she still mustered up the courage to continue picking persimmons from the tree.

"How many persimmons do you want?" She lowered her head and asked Yunmian under the tree.

Yun Mian greedily looked at all the persimmons on the tree one by one, and then, in front of Zhao Xiaoli's increasingly terrified and resistant eyes, she opened her hand and answered seriously: "Sister, I want five!"

Zhao Xiaoli: "...Who is your sister? My real age is old enough to be your grandmother, did you know that?"

He muttered a retort while stretching out his hand to pick one off.

Soon, the pocket of Yunmian's clothes was filled with seven wild persimmons.

It should have been a fruitful harvest, if Zhao Xiaoli, who climbed up the tree, could successfully come down.

The two little girls, one on top of a tree and the other under, were dumbfounded by the distance of one and a half meters from the ground.

"It's getting dark." Yun Mian put the persimmon on the ground and raised her hand to try to pick up Zhao Xiaoli, adding a child's innocent threat: "Mom said that when it gets dark, there will be super scary monsters that will eat children. Come down quickly."

Zhao Xiaoli was almost mad at her and cried. She held on to the branch tightly and dared not let go. She cried in her voice: "You are talking nonsense! There are no monsters in the world, only wild beasts!"

Man-eating beasts and scary ghosts...

If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have been a hero and helped Yunmian pick persimmons!

Zhao Xiaoli regretted so much that she wanted to cry, but she sniffed her nose and held it back. Under Yun Mian's worried and urging gaze, she slowly and tentatively slid down the tree trunk a little bit.

As she looked down, Yun Mian held her breath and watched with wide eyes, not daring to breathe, for fear that she would slip and fall from the tree.

Only when Zhao Xiaoli finally landed successfully did the two children breathe a sigh of relief.

"Hurry, it's getting dark, let's go back quickly." Zhao Xiaoli grabbed Yun Mian's sleeve and urged her.

The autumn wind was bleak, and from time to time there were sounds of small animals running out from the dry grass. Even the sound of leaves swirling and falling could make Zhao Xiaoli, a tomboy, terrified, for fear that there might be wild beasts or ghosts.

Others are like newborn calves who are not afraid of tigers, but for Zhao Xiaoli, who has lived once and is no longer an atheist, the quieter it is, the more terrifying it is. Even the slightest sound will cause all kinds of horrible fantasies.

Yunmian was walking back with a pocket full of wild persimmons, thinking about how to divide the seven wild persimmons.

Mom must have plenty, and I must have some too, and then Uncle System and Zhao Xiaoli, who worked so hard to help pick these persimmons, must not be left behind.

Just as he was concentrating on thinking, Zhao Xiaoli, who was walking next to him, suddenly stopped.

Yunmian didn't notice that the child was missing at first. After she walked a few steps forward and found no sound, she looked back in confusion.

"What's wrong with you? Did you sprain your ankle?" Yun Mian tilted her head and stared at Zhao Xiaoli who was squatting on the ground, not understanding why she suddenly stopped walking.

Hearing the voice, Zhao Xiaoli looked over with an extremely complicated look.

At least Yunmian couldn't understand what Zhao Xiaoli's strange gaze meant.

So she chose to walk to Zhao Xiaoli with a bag of wild persimmons and took a look down.

"What is this?" Yun Mian stared curiously at the green leaf next to Zhao Xiaoli's hand.

"..." Zhao Xiaoli opened her mouth, and it was unclear whether her tone was happy or bitter: "This is ginseng."

Ginseng? ?

Yunmian tried hard to recall, ginseng... seemed to be something edible?

"Then let's pull it up!" Yun Mian squatted down excitedly and prepared to start.

Zhao Xiaoli: "...That's not how you pull ginseng!"

"Then I'll call my mother to dig it out!" Yun Mian has great confidence in her mother. In her eyes, her mother is an omnipotent superwoman, and nothing can stump her!

“No, Mianmian.” This time it was the system that stopped us. It flew over and explained, “This ginseng belongs to the protagonist. It does not belong to you and your mother. If you take it back, fate will backfire on you and your life may be in danger.”

The opportunity to be the protagonist is not so easy to obtain. It and its more than 3,000 hosts have learned enough lessons from this.

Yunmian couldn't understand. It was just a blade of grass, why was it so serious?

And she never thought of taking it back. Zhao Xiaoli helped her pick persimmons, so she wanted her mother to help her pick ginseng. Isn't that fair?

"...Are you a little fool?" Zhao Xiaoli glared at her speechlessly: "Do you know what ginseng is?"

Yunmian shook his head honestly.

“……” Very good, he is indeed a little fool!

Zhao Xiaoli shook her head and ignored her, continuing to stare at the ginseng at her feet with her head down in a daze.

She also found a ginseng in her previous life, and her family saved a little money from that ginseng. When the locust plague and famine came the next year, the family was able to buy enough food to survive.

But the ginseng from my previous life was clearly not found this year, let alone on this mountain.

Zhao Xiaoli was in a daze, feeling complicated and panicked for a moment. She didn't know what she would have to face and pay for behind this good luck.

The question now is, should I accept this opportunity and find a way to dig out this ginseng and bring it back to my parents?

"Aren't you leaving?" Yun Mian looked up at the sky that was about to get dark, then touched her butt with her backhand. She felt that if she didn't go back, her mother would chase her with a broom and beat her again.

"... Let's go, let's go back first." Zhao Xiaoli gritted her teeth and stood up, forcing herself not to look at the ginseng leaves again, and walked down the mountain holding Yunmian's hand.

Yun Mian looked back a few times and memorized the appearance of the ginseng.

She didn't know why she did this, but it was such a big mountain, maybe there were other ginsengs there?

The system uncle said that this ginseng belongs to Zhao Xiaoli, and neither she nor her mother can take it. But if it is another ginseng that she found herself, she can at least take it, right?

However, Yunmian's idea was very naive. She simply thought that this thing was edible, so she wanted to find another similar ginseng in this mountain and bring it home for her mother to eat.

Just like in her memory, when she saw the wild persimmons, her first reaction was to run over to pick them and take them home for her mother to taste.

Fortunately, Yun Mian did not speak out these messy thoughts, otherwise not only would Zhao Xiaoli call her a little fool, but even the system might seriously advise her to be a good villain and not daydream.
