Chapter 5: Reason Seems to Have Slightly Lost Control
As soon as she finished speaking, her beautiful face was completely flushed.
Yun Sheng only came to her senses when Xiao Xu's figure disappeared behind the screen and even the sound of his footsteps could no longer be heard.
She suddenly covered her cheeks, the temperature of her palms and face was about the same, the heat flowing, as if even her eyes were burning red.
After discussing serious matters, another matter, which was equally serious but considered extremely improper by Yun Sheng, came to mind, and the words of Granny Wenxin echoed in his ears.
Heaven knows that just now, while she was soaking in the hot soup in the bathhouse, she was really thinking about whether she and Xiao Xu would become the nominal couple described in storybooks, getting married in a grand manner but living together in name only.
But after hearing Xiao Xu's serious words, she knew that things wouldn't be like that between them.
Yun Sheng's heart skipped a beat, her dark eyes reflecting the flickering light of the wedding candles.
She tried to calm herself down, but the self-suggestion didn't work very well; she felt ashamed whenever she thought of the pictures in the album.
She walked to her rosewood dressing table, picked up the jade comb to comb her black hair, her gaze even wandering when she looked at herself in the bronze mirror.
She stopped combing her hair after a short while, hesitating whether she should lie down on the couch first.
Once all the lamps except the wedding candles are extinguished, the room will darken, and when Xiao Xu comes out of the bathhouse, they won't have to face the awkward situation of staring at each other in the bright light.
Just thinking about that scene made Yun Sheng's mouth go dry.
She walked to the couch, where the tea that Cuizhu had brought into the room was still on the table.
Yun Sheng stared at it for a while, then reached out and took the upside-down jade cup to pour herself some tea.
Xiao Xu never delayed taking a bath, and even on his special wedding night, he did not spend too much time on it.
After drying himself off, he picked up his nightgown to put it on. It was clearly made of the same material as the red nightgown Yun Sheng was wearing. Just now, it had burned his palm when he lightly touched it, but now he couldn't feel any different texture at all.
Xiao Xu recalled the image of her in bright red against her porcelain-white skin, her black hair falling gracefully and beautifully, not at all vulgar, but rather so alluring that she was unaware of it.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he turned his thoughts to the pot of cold tea he had ordered but hadn't yet tasted.
Xiao Xu deftly tied the belt around his waist and strode out of the bathhouse.
After going around the screen, I saw a red figure sitting in the same spot as before.
Upon hearing this, Yun Sheng suddenly stood up: "I'll go to the couch first."
With a soft clatter, she hurriedly put down the jade cup in her hand.
Xiao Xu's gaze was fixed on the jade cup, which wobbled slightly on the table. In the blink of an eye, the person in front of the couch was gone.
He didn't say anything, his throat still felt dry, and continued walking towards the couch.
Xiao Xu casually picked up a clean jade cup with one hand and reached for the teapot with the other.
A splashing sound filled the teapot.
Xiao Xu paused for a moment, then looked down at the teapot in his hand and then at another jade cup.
The teapot, which had just been filled with tea, was more than half empty when he unexpectedly lost control of his strength.
Could she have become so thirsty in just fifteen minutes?
Xiao Xu silently drank another cup of tea before putting down the jade cup and turning off the lamp.
Yun Sheng had already lain down on the unfamiliar bed, the clean bedding, there was no strange smell, and she couldn't find anything familiar about it.
She pulled the blanket up to cover most of her face, but her body was turned to the side, her bright almond-shaped eyes staring straight out.
Watching Xiao Xu drink tea, and watching him extinguish the lamps one by one.
The bright red nightgown he wore was quite eye-catching; although it was the same color, it felt completely different from when he wore his wedding dress.
The light and casual nightgown made his figure appear even more slender. Without the feeling of being heavily wrapped, his more muscular physique than the average person was also outlined with clear lines.
With broad shoulders and a narrow waist, the slightly open collar of her clothes when she turns to the side reveals a noticeably full and upright figure underneath.
How could his body be so...?
Just then, Xiao Xu turned around, and Yun Sheng abruptly looked away, making a rustling sound on the bed as she turned her back.
The bedroom darkened, with only a pair of wedding candles burning on the corner table, their light mostly blocked by the partition screen.
The warm yellow light enveloped a thick red glow, adding to the lingering ambiguous atmosphere as the man approached.
When Xiao Xu walked to the bedside, Yun Sheng suddenly remembered that she needed to get up to let him.
She propped herself up halfway on the bed and turned to see Xiao Xu raising his hand to untie the thin gauze on both sides of the bed railing.
Inevitably, my gaze first fell upon his collar, looking down at the ground.
Even before the veil was lowered, it already evoked an atmosphere completely enveloped in dim red.
The outline of that patch, barely visible in the dim light, became even more apparent.
Should we let it go?
Yun Sheng was so nervous that she could barely hear herself. She moved her lips and said in a barely audible voice, "Let it go."
Xiao Xu gazed at her silently for a moment, then removed the thin veil and said to her, "Lie down. You can sleep on the inside. There's no need for me to."
Yun Sheng slowly lay back down, but her hands, hidden under the covers, were clenched so tightly that her palms were sweating.
Unable to control her tension and panic, Yun Sheng wondered if other girls felt the same way on their wedding day, and she felt utterly useless.
However, Xiao Xu was too handsome, and his physique was completely different from the men described in the books.
His presence was so strong that Yun Sheng was caught in an uncontrollable conflict between daydreaming and maintaining her composure.
When Xiao Xu moved to lie down next to her, her breathing caught in her throat, and her whole body stiffened.
The faint, cool fragrance she smelled while drinking the Heqin wine wafted over, mingling with the fresh scent after her bath, as if enticing her to get closer to smell it more clearly.
Ke Yunsheng was unable to move, lying flat on her back like a fish on a cutting board.
She naturally didn't notice that when Xiao Xu lay down, his gaze fell on her face with her bright eyes closed, and when he saw her reaction, he paused for a moment.
Once he was completely lying down, Xiao Xu made no further movements, remaining flat on his back with his arm about a fist's distance from hers.
In the darkness, Xiao Xu pulled the covers up and whispered, "Don't be nervous, just sleep like this."
Yun Sheng opened her eyes in a daze, her eyes veiled with a hazy mist, causing her to subconsciously turn her head, but she still couldn't see Xiao Xu's appearance clearly.
"Does this count as consummating the marriage?"
Xiao Xu didn't speak, but turned to look at her as well, his eyes conveying a clear meaning. Yun Sheng saw it clearly after the mist dissipated, and blushed instantly.
He didn't even touch her, so how could it be considered consummating the marriage?
My mother taught me, Aunt Wenxin said, and there are many more things depicted in books than just this.
Yun Sheng didn't want to think about it further, so she changed her question to, "Is it really okay to sleep like this?"
Yun Sheng had never shared a bed with anyone since she could remember, but if that was all, she could barely accept it.
It was a little warm in the bed, probably because she was too tense. Xiao Xu didn't have an unpleasant smell, nor was it strong. Just smelling that scent wasn't enough to keep her from falling asleep.
She heard Xiao Xu answer her in a deep voice: "Okay."
Yun Sheng knew that it would be improper to sleep together like that, but Xiao Xu had already given a positive answer.
She pursed her lips, wanting to just let it go, but a rigid set of rules was still holding her back.
Xiao Xu gazed at her quietly for a moment, then suddenly turned over.
When lying flat on your back, your breath suddenly comes from the side, and the distance between you is not close at all, but rather farther than a punch, yet you feel instantly that the other person is very close.
Xiao Xu said, "You don't need to force yourself. Rules are rigid, but people are flexible. We are already married. Just because we didn't consummate our marriage tonight doesn't mean we're not husband and wife. We can talk about this after we get to know each other better."
Yun Sheng's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down after hearing these words, and she couldn't help but let out a visibly relieved sigh.
After exhaling, she held her breath, thought for a moment, and then suddenly turned over.
A red candle flickered in the distance, casting a thick, red glow through the thin veil. Their eyes met, their faces shrouded in dim shadows, yet their eyes shone with light, reflecting each other's likenesses.
Is it really possible?
Xiao Xu affirmed again, "Yes, it's possible."
After he finished speaking, there was a moment of silence between the two.
Looking at his wife's relieved and thankful expression, Xiao Xu's already somewhat confused state of mind became even more complicated.
Clearly, she hadn't considered that her husband's failure to consummate their marriage on their wedding night was a sign of neglect; instead, she seemed relieved to have escaped a disaster.
He thought inappropriately, if it were Xiao Ling, would she have the same mentality?
Looking at those bright, clear eyes now, he could still recall the tearful look in her eyes when she lifted the veil.
It's not hard to guess that she was crying because of Xiao Ling.
They had been discussing marriage for two years, and she had long harbored feelings for Xiao Lingfang. How could she not be heartbroken to be abandoned in one fell swoop?
If this were an ordinary marriage, and he was the one who initially discussed marriage with her, he would not allow his wife to have another man in her heart.
But this marriage is not a conventional one; she has someone else in her heart. He should rationally express his understanding and generously give her time to adapt and adjust.
Moreover, if he were to get intimate with her at this time, he would appear ridiculous.
In fact, it was already absurd of him to agree to the marriage in the first place, to marry a woman who already had someone else in her heart.
Xiao Xu's lips curled into a strange smile, his expression appearing somewhat gloomy in the darkness, though no one noticed.
"Then I'm really going to sleep," Yun Sheng whispered, her head covered by the blanket.
"Sheng Sheng." Xiao Xu suddenly called out to her.
Yun Sheng paused, her hand still pulling at the corner of the blanket, a hint of anxiety in her eyes: "What's wrong?"
"Wake me up before you go back to sleep."
"What?"
Xiao Xu said, "I've told you my courtesy name, but you've never called me that even once."
Yun Sheng retorted guiltily, "I already called for it."
That time doesn't count.
Yun Sheng thought to herself, "How can it not count?" But she couldn't deny that she had deliberately stopped calling him by his nickname. In contrast, Xiao Xu had already gotten used to calling her by her nickname.
You always need to get familiar with something.
“…Okay.” Yun Sheng lowered her eyelashes and called to him in a gentle voice, “Chang Yu, I’m going to sleep.”
Without waiting for a response, Yun Sheng had already closed her eyes.
Xiao Xu stared intently at the peaceful sleeping face nearby.
When he is expressionless, his sharply defined, handsome face appears cold and indifferent.
Xiao Xu recalled that two years ago, in the summer, he was tricked by his mother and forced to attend a lotus banquet.
He sat alone in the waterside pavilion, looking into the distance. Several pretty figures were playing and laughing by the pond, but his gaze was fixed on a girl surrounded by flowers.
She leaned slightly forward, extending a finger to touch the flower buds near the shore. Her profile was soft and delicate, and under the sunlight, she looked like the finest white porcelain.
She turned around abruptly after her female companion said something, a bright smile spreading across her face, her lips curving upwards, her eyes sparkling with a charming and endearing quality.
A summer breeze swept by, and a few strands of her hair brushed against her cheek. Xiao Xu watched her calmly and without emotion. By the time the girl left and he withdrew his gaze, the crispy mountain on the table had completely melted into sugar water.
Xiao Xu's eyes darkened slightly, and his rationality seemed to be slipping a little out of control.
Before the thought even occurred, the voice came out first.
Xiao Xu called out, "Sheng Sheng."
Only the sound of even, long breaths answered his call.
A few dark emotions surged in Xiao Xu's eyes before finally settling into calm as he closed his eyes.
