Chapter 27 Chapter 27... Break Up
Wen Yu had a boring meal at Wen Yu's house.
The adults chatted about everything from the food on the table to international news, and then on to Wen Yu and Wen Yu's wedding. By this time, everyone at the table had already had enough to eat and drink, and their gazes were fixed on the two young people about to celebrate their wedding, each face beaming with joy.
Wen Yu's parents were discussing the wedding date, while Wen Yu's parents said they needed to calculate an auspicious date. Wen Yu's parents suggested a hotel for the wedding banquet, while Wen Yu's parents discussed the guest list and number of guests. Wen Yu's parents suggested that getting married sooner would allow for the birth of a child sooner, while Wen Yu's parents said both sets of parents were available and could help with childcare.
Wen Yu looked at the ridiculous scene in front of her. They were so engrossed in the conversation, one after another, discussing her and Wen Yu's marriage clearly, but no one came to ask for her opinion.
Wen Yu felt as if she had two souls. One soul was trapped in the body sitting at the table, acting with four whimsical adults and accompanying her mother to perform a harmonious and happy family; the other soul floated out from above her head, looking down indifferently at all the absurd things in front of her.
Wen Yu sat upright the whole time with a proper smile on his face.
The spirit above Wen Yu's head gazed in surprise at Wen Yu's face, watching the tender, affectionate look he gave Wen Yu's body, watching him politely pick up food for her. The adults watched with delight, the two mothers giggling and covering their mouths, the two fathers toasting each other in celebration.
By the end of the meal, Wen Yu was exhausted. She felt like a walking corpse standing there. Wen Yu's mother lovingly held her arm and caressed the back of her hand. They said goodbye. Wen Yu's father urged Wen Yu to drive carefully and get Wen Yu and her parents home safely.
Wen Yu saw the WeChat message from Pan Xianchen and felt the stubbornness and threat in it.
But she really didn't have the energy to spare now.
Mom was so happy tonight, and Dad was so cooperative. They talked like any normal couple in the world, smiling at their daughter.
Wen Yu sat in the car in silence. She rolled down the window, and the warm evening breeze rustled against her cheeks. When they reached the villa entrance, her mother asked Wen Yu to park the car. It was a short walk from here, so there was no need to drive them home. It was getting late, so the two young people could go home early without the adults dragging them down.
There were only two people left in the car, and it suddenly became very quiet.
Wen Yu said, "You don't have to drive in later. Just drop me off at the gate of the community."
Wen Yu glanced at her calmly, then said calmly, "It's so late, where do you want me to sleep?"
"I don't know." But Wen Yu reminded him, "You said it yourself, you'll move out these few days."
Wen Yu curled his lips coldly.
Besides his parents' home, he had other options. The company's staff dormitory, or at worst, a hotel. He had escaped the countryside and mountains on his own merit, having squeezed into a promising company without relying on his parents. His future lay in a vast expanse of territory. He had his own pride, and he disdained to argue with Wen Yu about such trivial matters.
He dropped Wen Yu off at the gate of the community and walked away without looking back.
Wen Yu stood at the doorway, looking up at the silent night sky. The city sky was always hazy, as if covered by a layer, making it difficult to see into its inner world. Tiny stars dotted this hazy canvas, their light dimming.
Pan Xianchen got out of the car and looked at the same sky.
He waited with impatience, his face expressionless. An hour or two passed, and Wen Yu didn't reply. He gave up, leaving his phone in the car and sitting outside in a daze. A long time passed, and he saw Wen Yu's parents walking back, one after another, with no one else behind them.
Pan Xianchen leaned slouched against the car door as his phone rang behind him. Tired of standing, he opened the door and sat back down. He was drowned in countless calls and WeChat messages. Ning Kai asked why he had suddenly left, what had happened, and where he was. His parents had called several times, too. Yan Qianqian sent him a WeChat message asking where he was.
He scanned them one by one and ignored any of them.
Not long after, Yan Qianqian sent another WeChat message: You didn’t answer the phone, your parents were worried, and came to ask me if I knew where you were.
Qianwan Millionaire: Why don’t you call me back?
Qianwanfuren: Or you could reply to my WeChat? I'm at your parents' house, I can talk to them for you. After all, I, Yan Qianqian, am a woman of my word. I promised to cover for you, and I will!
Qianwanfuren: So where did you go? I'm so curious.
Qianwan Millionaire: Ah!
Qianwanfuweng: You're not going to see Sister Wenyu, are you? Are you at her house? Her villa? Or somewhere else?
Qianwan Millionaire: Do you know that Sister Wenyu has another home besides the villa?
Pan Xianchen looked at the WeChat message and fell into deep thought. Then he asked Yan Qianqian: Where is Wen Yu's other home?
Yan Qianqian was speechless. As the night wore on, she realized the thread she'd previously unraveled seemed to be a bit off. Based on Pan Xianchen's reaction and her reflection on his character, Yan Qianqian felt there might be another interpretation. Perhaps Pan Xianchen wasn't the one who was being completely blinded by the truth? Perhaps he was being kept in the dark, simply enjoying the sight of a vast, green prairie above him. If that were the case, he was truly unscrupulous, truly pathetic.
As she thought about Pan Xianchen's latest WeChat message, Yan Qianqian felt more and more that his hair was green.
She couldn't bear it, so she told him everything she knew.
Qianwan millionaire: [address]
Qianwanfuweng: This is the neighborhood where Sister Wenyu lives in the city center. I was lucky enough to visit once! I noticed she seems to live with her boyfriend. Are you sure you want to go?
Pan Xianchen replied: Tell my parents not to worry about me, I will be back soon.
Yan Qianqian was convinced.
At the gate to the residential complex, Pan Xianchen finally spotted Wen Yu. She wasn't surrounded by anyone, nor was that car. She stood there alone, looking at something, thinking about something. After a night of waiting, the person finally arrived. But Pan Xianchen didn't rush over. Instead, he stood there, gazing at her for a moment.
For a moment, Pan Xianchen felt that Wen Yu was so lonely.
He walked over slowly and suddenly appeared in Wen Yu's sight. Wen Yu seemed to be still in a daze, and her eyes slowly fell on him.
Pan Xianchen twitched the corners of his mouth, revealing a cold smile. He said, "Hey! Wen Yu. Why aren't you with your real boyfriend? Instead, why are you being blocked by a self-righteous fake like me?"
Wen Yu: “…”
She looked at him speechlessly.
Pan Xianchen wasn't in a hurry. He'd been up all night, and his stomach was still empty. His body was exhausted, but his spirits were incredibly high. He seemed to have a lot to say to ridicule her. He said, "You and your boyfriend are living together, right? Is he waiting for you at home now? What about you? What were you doing out there? Fishing? Is your and your boyfriend's interest just to toy with the feelings of idiots like me?"
Wen Yu: “…”
Pan Xianchen felt ridiculous and actually laughed out loud, saying, "Why are you mute? Your mouth was so useful when you kissed me, why aren't you talking now?"
Wen Yu looked at him in silence. Every word he said now could pierce her like a thorn. But she was numb tonight. She felt dull, like a gear that had been working in an orderly manner but had gradually rusted and could no longer turn.
After several rounds of silence, Pan Xianchen finally got angry. He pinched Wen Yu's chin with his palm and shook her face.
"Speak!"
Wen Yu turned her face away, shook off Pan Xianchen's hand, and said, "His name is Wen Yu. He is not my boyfriend, he is my fiancé."
“…” Pan Xianchen was speechless. He opened his mouth several times but could not utter a word.
After a long while, he said in disbelief, "I've been waiting for you for so long today, and the first thing you said to me was this?"
I have a boyfriend. I have another home. I live with my boyfriend. Now, a fiancé?
How many more surprises are there that he doesn't know about?
"Wenyu, you really treat me like a dog, don't you?" Pan Xianchen said through gritted teeth. "You've been playing tricks on me for so long, how do you feel?"
Wen Yu closed her eyes. Silence seemed to fill her ears for a moment, then suddenly, a sudden explosion. After the ringing in her ears, the gears began to churn. Her dulled senses suddenly overwhelmed her like a rising tide. Shame, guilt, self-blame, regret... a thousand complex emotions crawled through her body like venomous snakes, spreading to every part of her body.
She blinked painfully, tears filling her eyes.
Pan Xianchen hated himself for feeling such a pang of pain at the sight of this woman's crocodile tears. He said with equal pain, "How dare you cry?"
He is right.
Wen Yu wiped her tears with her hands, over and over again, but she couldn't stop. She rubbed her eyes hard, making them red and swollen.
Pan Xianchen rudely pulled her hand off and shouted, "That's enough!"
He turned away, not looking at her. After a moment, he asked feebly, "Is there nothing else to say? Is there nothing else you can say to me?"
Wen Yu lowered her head. At this moment, she really wanted to die.
Would jumping off the roof put an end to everything? No hypocrisy, no deception. All the accounts with Mom, Dad, Wen Yu, and the man before me would be written off.
She moved her lips, and Pan Xianchen turned his head back and waited for her.
She said, "...let's break up."
Pan Xianchen stared at her for several seconds, his face twisted with anger. "Are you sick? You're breaking up with me? Shouldn't I be the one to initiate the breakup? Who the hell do you think you are?"
He could not tolerate the humiliation of this night and this place, so he unconsciously took a half step back. Before leaving, he glared at Wen Yu and cursed her viciously: "...scumbag."
Pan Xianchen's car sped away, and the harsh sound of the wheels scraping against the ground attracted the attention of passers-by.
Wen Yu walked forward slowly, and at a certain moment she suddenly squatted down, hugged her knees, curled up like a ball, and cried.
She sucks.
She's a rotten person. As rotten as her disgusting dad.
She is trash.
She deserved it. Why didn't she just die?
