Chapter 34 Chapter 34 Come out to meet the mentor

After get off work on Monday, Ning Kai invited Pan Xianchen to a bar for a get-together.

Ning Kai and Hu Jingjing had a huge argument, and Hu Jingjing kicked Ning Kai out of the house. With nowhere to go, Ning Kai languished in a bar. That same day, Ning Kai had invited Pan Xianchen and Cheng Lin out for dinner. They'd agreed that Pan Xianchen would take Cheng Lin to the gym, but after dinner, Cheng Lin came out of the bathroom, and Pan Xianchen was nowhere to be seen, not even the gym. Ning Kai apologized on Pan Xianchen's behalf.

Later, Hu Jingjing and Cheng Lin met at yoga class. Cheng Lin, known for her straightforward nature, spoke bluntly about the incident. As Ning Kai's wife, and Ning Kai's close friend, Hu Jingjing wasn't happy to hear Cheng Lin's blunt criticism of Pan Xianchen. She felt as if Cheng Lin was implying she hadn't handled the matter properly, and Hu Jingjing felt both embarrassed and resentful.

After returning home, Hu Jingjing and Ning Kai discussed the incident. They had been enjoying their meal, but somehow, as they talked, their voices rose, their tone became harsh, and they threw their chopsticks down... In the end, Hu Jingjing kicked Ning Kai out of the house, sobbing.

Now, Ning Kai was cursing and complaining to Pan Xianchen about Hu Jingjing's faults.

"Do you know how painful it was when Hu Jingjing kicked me in the butt?!" Ning Kai shouted while drinking, "I thought I was going to have an anal fissure!"

Pan Xianchen poured himself a cup, downed it in one gulp, and said, "You two quarreled, and the fault is mine. I'll punish myself."

"I'm not blaming you," Ning Kai said. "It's uncertain whether something like this will succeed or not. Cheng Lin feels the same way. I just don't understand why she'd gossip about you in front of Hu Jingjing. Hu Jingjing likes to keep things to herself, and now she's been so full of it that she's kicked me out of her heart."

Pan Xianchen smiled.

Ning Kai was furious: "You still think this is funny, right?!"

"I didn't expect you to say something like that." Pan Xianchen and Ning Kai clinked their glasses. "I thought you were writing an essay."

Ning Kai finished another glass and glared at Pan Xianchen in dissatisfaction. "Who are you looking down on? Just your good grades? I got a higher score on an essay in third grade."

The bartender served them new drinks.

Ning Kai sipped his wine and sighed, "Alas, I can't hold my wife to sleep today. What about you? How are you? I knew you were very busy the past two days, so I didn't dare to disturb you."

"I'm fine."

Ning Kai's eyes widened. "You're suddenly well again? Weren't you drinking and torturing yourself in the gym not long ago?"

Pan Xianchen said, "I've figured it out."

"Have you figured it out? That's good. I, your dad, will be relieved." Ning Kai's eyes rolled around and he said, "How about I ask Cheng Lin out for another meeting? She seems to be obsessed with you. Even if you just walk away like that, she might still be willing to talk to you. Hu Jingjing has already tested her."

"No need. I said I don't have any feelings for her."

"Then shall I introduce another girl to you?"

“No need.”

A question mark slowly appeared above Ning Kai's head: "You call this figuring it out? Do you mean figuring it out like deciding which temple to become a monk in?"

Pan Xianchen was speechless: "Why did you become so fussy after marrying Hu Jingjing?"

"So what do you mean?"

"Wen Yu."

Ning Kai:?

"She broke up with her fiancé? Do you have a chance?" Ning Kai found it unbelievable.

“No points.”

"Then--?" Ning Kai looked at Pan Xianchen's face and suddenly understood, so a string of question marks appeared on his head.

Has Pan Gou finally lost his mind? He's giving up his role as a good person and is really going to become a dog? Has his morals lost their bottom line? Has his worldview been completely shattered? Is Pan Xianchen planning to fight and compete with his mistress for his position? Ning Kai was completely bewildered, and his numerous words condensed into one: "Pan Gou, Pan Gou, your rabies has finally struck."

After bantering with Ning Kai, Pan Xianchen returned home. The Trafigura trade matter had concluded smoothly, and the subsequent buyer matchmaking meeting had also gone off without a hitch. Work had been uneventful lately. The daily grind was mundane, but for someone who'd worked for years, it had become second nature.

Wen Yu had only one major event at work recently: Peng Yan was leaving, and she was taking over. She felt she wasn't cut out for leadership. She left work on time and hated working overtime. She disliked socializing with her colleagues and would never attend team-building events unless she could get time off. She was a self-reliant person, driving wherever she pleased, on her own, without the friction and internal friction of socializing.

Some colleagues who had heard the news had already privately congratulated her and even glibly asked her to take good care of them in the future. Wen Yu smiled and told them that nothing had been decided yet. Ye Yinuo had gotten inside information again and hurried to report that the group was holding a mid-level manager qualification training class, and Wen Yu's name was on the list.

Ye Yinuo had a sense of security that "my sister will help me when I become rich", and winked at Wen Yu: "Isn't this fate coming? Don't forget me when you become successful! I want to be your little follower!"

"Okay." Wen Yu nodded. "I'll get you an office specifically and install the most expensive screen and speakers, so you can watch my brother's concert at work."

"Wow! You've got to keep your word!" Ye Yinuo's eyes lit up. "I'm already imagining my brother singing and dancing for me in my office!"

Wen Yu and Ye Yinuo looked at each other with sly smiles.

After laughing for several minutes, Ye Yinuo suddenly came to his senses and sighed, "That's impossible. The most likely scenario is that after you become a leader, you will drift away from me, and then you will meet other leaders and completely forget about me."

Wen Yu held Ye Yinuo's hand and said seriously, "No."

"Really?"

"The moment I become a leader, I will forget about you and block all contact information."

“…”

Wen Yu chuckled, but Ye Yinuo pouted and couldn't laugh.

Wen Yu: "...I was just kidding."

Ye Yinuo said: "You are speaking the truth in a joking way again."

Wen Yu: “…”

Ye Yinuo turned away and didn't want to talk anymore. Wen Yu leaned over to look at Ye Yinuo's face, but Ye Yinuo hid and didn't let her see. Wen Yu had no choice but to say to the back of Ye Yinuo's head: "I won't forget you. To be honest with you, I like this better than being a supervisor. Sister Yan often works overtime, and this is the price of being a leader. I can't be a leader at all."

Ye Yinuo turned back and said sadly, "I've never seen anything like you. The training is almost over, and I won't let you run away!"

The training took place in a small coastal town. A group of people from all the group's branches, large and small, gathered for the training. In addition to reserve managers like Wen Yu, there were also many young key personnel. While the participants were diverse, the course content was the same for everyone. The group assigned each colleague a business mentor and a Party-building mentor. The business mentor was typically a director-level employee from each branch, while the Party-building mentor was the company's Party branch secretary. This mentor-apprentice system not only helped trainees improve their skills in real time, but also allowed the group to monitor trainees at any time through the mentor's perspective.

Wen Yu and other colleagues arrived in the small town on the company's bus. The coastal town lived up to its reputation. The coastal highway was clean and spacious, and beside it lay a pale golden beach strewn with tiny shells. Many tourists flocked here to build sandcastles and play in the waves. The sea here was crystal clear, and the scorching sun shone on the surface, creating sparkling ripples everywhere. The waves never stopped, rolling tirelessly.

Sitting on the bus, we were very close to the sea. With the window open, we could seem to smell the fishy and salty smell of the sea water.

Wen Yu sat by the window, leaning on the windowsill. She had already decided that when there was a break in the training, she would go for a walk on the beach and swim a few laps in the sea.

The group had spent a fortune to house everyone at a resort in this coastal town. Wen Yu collected her room card and dragged her suitcase into her room to rest. Mr. Wang, the instructor in charge of the training, had added everyone to a temporary group chat, which had been buzzing non-stop since they'd gotten off the bus. Wen Yu first set the group chat to Do Not Disturb before browsing the chat logs.

Everyone was excited to arrive in the coastal town, discussing a trip to the beach in their group chats. As dinner approached, some people discussed where to eat and what to eat. Many also mentioned their two mentors, whom they wanted to meet formally and reconnect with.

Wen Yu put down her phone and stretched out on the soft bed. The resort had plenty of places to eat and drink, so she planned to have a nice meal at the Western restaurant. After dinner, she could head to the beach to digest her food. The moist sea breeze would caress her cheeks, and the soft sand would sink between her toes. Just the thought of it made Wen Yu feel comfortable. She moved her limbs happily on the bed, like a happy windshield wiper. After a while, she twisted and turned comfortably, like a starfish turning over on the seabed.

The phone next to her head buzzed and she picked it up to check the message.

Pan Xianchen sent a WeChat message: Come out.

Wen Xiaoyu: Ah?

Pan Xianchen: I am your business mentor. Come out and meet me.

Pan Xianchen: [Address]

Wen Yu jumped up from her bed and reread the WeChat messages in disbelief. The two mentors assigned to her on the list clearly weren't Pan Xianchen. She suspected she was seeing things and re-opened the list to check.

Pan Xianchen was annoyed by her lack of response and called her directly: "I sent you an address. I'll wait for you here."

Wen Yu was still surprised: "Mr. Pan, how come you are my business mentor?"

Pan Xianchen said, "I'm your supervisor. Is there anything unreasonable about being your business mentor?"

Wen Yu said: "You are not on the list..."

"It was indeed not me who was initially assigned, but I specifically applied to Mr. Yan, and now it's me."

“…”

"how?"

"Why?"

"I want to take care of you myself. I don't feel comfortable leaving you to others."
