Chapter 55 Chapter 55 I want you to be willing
Huo Zizheng drove a Wuling Hongguang and took Wen Yu to a nearby pet hospital. Xiaolin was also in the car. She had to personally repeat the process of feeding Aslan to the doctor.
Wen Yu was terribly anxious. It was the first time she'd learned that dogs, like humans, could have diarrhea and vomit. It was also the first time she'd seen the once-bubbly Aslan become so lifeless, like a decrepit, old dog. Aslan lay motionless in her arms, and Wen Yu felt like crying. She kept urging Huo Zizheng to drive faster.
Arriving at the veterinary hospital, the three of them and the dog rushed in to see the doctor. The doctor briefly examined the dog's condition, asking about the duration, frequency, and nature of the diarrhea. He also inquired about what, how, and how much the dog had been fed. Xiaolin spoke nervously, and Wen Yu's heart grew colder as she listened. Huo Zizheng patted her shoulder, as if to comfort her, and squeezed it soothingly. Wen Yu shrugged, shaking off his hand.
They spent most of the night in the hospital, conducting medical consultations, examinations, rehydration, and prescription medicines. They left exhaustedly only after Aslan's condition stabilized.
Xiaolin returned to the front desk. Today was her night shift, and because she had gone to the hospital unexpectedly, another colleague had covered for her for a few hours. Now she was back. Huo Zizheng followed Wen Yu upstairs to her room. After Wen Yu calmed the dog, she looked back and saw Huo Zizheng still standing in her room, as if he had something to say.
"Boss Huo, Aslan and I need to rest." Wen Yu drove him away.
Huo Zizheng glanced at the frail dog, then at the exhausted Wen Yu, and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect this to happen."
Wen Yu turned away, her eyes still red: "It's none of your business."
Huo Zizheng moved his lips and finally managed to utter a sentence: "...I'm not good at speaking. I don't know how to put it in a better mood."
Wen Yu said, "If Aslan gets better, I will get better too."
Huo Zizheng: "..."
Wouldn't that mean he wouldn't be well for the next two days? He also planned to take Wen Yu lobster fishing and barbecue.
After thinking for a long time, Huo Zizheng could only say: "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry."
"Stop talking. There's no point in saying this now." Wen Yu walked over and put his hand on the door handle, as if to ask him to leave immediately. "Boss Huo, I'm very tired now. I want to sleep. Please go out."
Huo Zizheng was kicked out of the room by Wen Yu. He went downstairs and passed by the front desk. Xiao Lin was also in a bad mood. He had just apologized to Wen Yu countless times in the car and at the hospital, and admitted so many mistakes. Now he was in a daze. Seeing Huo Zizheng coming, he looked at him with a sad face and said aggrievedly, "Boss..."
Huo Zizheng sighed and said, "If you're not feeling well, switch shifts with someone else. I'll go out for a while."
Wen Yu squatted beside Aslan, stroking him gently with her hand. Through the warm fur, Wen Yu seemed to be able to feel the slow, regular beating of Aslan's heart. Aslan closed his eyes, then opened them with difficulty, looking at Wen Yu with his blue eyes, and then slowly closed them again.
These subtle movements seemed to allow Wen Yu to guess what Aslan wanted to say. Aslan regarded her as his only master, his only friend, and his only relative. Aslan felt her sadness and sorrow. Although he was too sick to have any strength, he still wanted to comfort her and accompany her. Aslan's paw rested on the instep of Wen Yu's foot. Wen Yu looked down and suddenly burst into tears.
Her cell phone suddenly rang. Pan Xianchen called to ask where she was, and she said she was in her room at the guesthouse.
"I know. I was asking what your room number was."
“…”
Wen Yu glanced at her phone, seemingly unresponsive, and told Pan Xianchen her room number, who then hung up. A moment later, there was a knock on her door.
When she opened the door, Pan Xianchen stood outside, dusty and exhausted. Tears still streamed down Wen Yu's face, but when she suddenly saw him, she threw herself into his arms without a second thought. Her hands curled up like Aslan's claws, clutching Pan Xianchen's clothes tightly. Her shoulders shrugged, and she buried her face in his chest. Soon, Pan Xianchen's clothes were soaked.
Pan Xianchen hugged her tightly, his left hand gently patting Wen Yu's back like a feather fan, and his right hand, like another feather fan, stroking the back of Wen Yu's head. They were silent, one crying quietly, the other silently comforting.
After an unknown amount of time, Wen Yu ran out of tears. She finally raised her head, looked at Pan Xianchen with hazy eyes, and asked, "Why are you here?"
Pan Xianchen wiped Wen Yu's tears with his thumb: "Shouldn't a father come when his son is sick?"
Wen Yu cried and laughed. It was such a late hour, and he was still trying to make her laugh! Wen Yu felt that if she laughed now, she would be sorry for Aslan. It was all Pan Xianchen's fault! She clenched her fist and hit Pan Xianchen. It felt hard.
"Mom, don't cry. Your son doesn't want to see you cry. Dad would be heartbroken if he saw you." Pan Xianchen said, "Take me to see Aslan, okay?"
Wen Yu nodded, and their hands held together very naturally. Wen Yu was in front and Pan Xianchen was behind, and they squatted down together beside Aslan.
A shadow even larger than before loomed, and Aslan opened his eyes slightly. Pan Xianchen patted Aslan's head and said, "You've seen the doctor and taken medicine, right? The fact that he's back from the hospital means Aslan's condition is stable. From now on, you need to take good care of him. Aslan is still young and will recover quickly."
"Um."
As Aslan gradually fell asleep, Wen Yu's mood gradually stabilized. After worrying about the dog, she finally had time to worry about Pan Xianchen. Wen Yu looked at Pan Xianchen. He was actually not in good spirits. He had been so busy with work these days, and now he drove through the night to be with her. He looked bad. Wen Yu frowned and blamed him: "Didn't I tell you not to delay work for me? Can you handle coming here so late? Are you stupid?"
Pan Xianchen smiled, put on an aggrieved expression, and said, "I've worked so hard to get here, and you still want to scold me..."
"...I didn't scold you..." Wen Yu couldn't stand Pan Xianchen's feigned weakness and quietly defended herself, "You still have to go to work tomorrow, right? Then stop running back and forth like this. What if the dog falls down and you fall down too?"
Pan Xianchen continued to feel wronged: "Then you can take care of both of us at the same time..."
"No. Then I will fall down too." Wen Yu pouted.
"Then the three of us will fall together...the family must be complete."
Wen Yu couldn't help laughing again.
Pan Xianchen also laughed and said, "I've taken a day off tomorrow morning. I'll stay here tonight and leave tomorrow morning. This way, it won't be too much of a hustle and bustle."
"Then go get a room and get some rest!" Wen Yu pushed his arm.
"good."
Pan Xianchen walked out obediently, and after a few minutes, he returned. Wen Yu looked at him questioningly. He spread his hands and said regretfully, "There are no rooms available. Maybe business is too good."
Wen Yu: “…”
Pan Xianchen walked into Wen Yu's room like a host, closed the door naturally, and said, "How about I spend the night with you?"
Wen Yu folded his arms and looked at him: "..."
If she hadn't talked to Mr. Huo Zizheng about his poverty, she might have been deceived by Pan Xianchen. From the moment she was brought into this B&B by Huo Zizheng, she hadn't seen any other guests.
Looking at Wen Yu's eyes that seemed to see through everything, Pan Xianchen touched his nose.
At this time, there was a knock on the door.
Huo Zizheng said from outside: "Wen Yu, you're still awake, right? Open the door."
He had just gone out to buy some dog supplies: a warm blanket, small toys, dog food, and the like. He felt guilty for letting Aslan get sick in his shop, and seeing Wen Yu's eyes tear up made him feel bad too. He had to run around to several stores and supermarkets to get these things together. He wasn't sure if they would be of any use, but it was a token of his appreciation.
Huo Zizheng waited for a while, and the door opened. He was met with a man's unfriendly gaze. Huo Zizheng recognized him; he had been video-calling Wen Yu for the past two days.
As Pan Xianchen walked out, Huo Zizheng had to step back. After both men left the door, Pan Xianchen closed it behind him.
"A photographer?" Pan Xianchen frowned, looking Huo Zizheng up and down. "You're filming someone in their B&B? How is that considered an illegal service?"
Huo Zizheng explained: "I am the owner of this B&B."
"Oh." Pan Xianchen understood, and his tone became even more disdainful. "So the boss can just knock on the female guest's door in the middle of the night?"
“…”
Huo Zizheng lowered his head, pointed to the bag in his hand, and said, "I bought something for the dog."
"No, the dog needs rest right now." Pan Xianchen glanced at the contents of the bag and added, "You don't need to buy anything for the dog. You need to pay for the dog's medical expenses."
Huo Zizheng nodded: "I know."
Pan Xianchen had nothing to say to him. He withdrew his gaze and looked at the other rooms in the corridor. He asked, "Do you have any empty rooms?"
Huo Zizheng said, "Yes, Wen Yu is the only guest here today, so all the other rooms are empty. I asked her to choose a room, and she chose this one. From the window of this room, you can see the lake outside, and the scenery is beautiful."
Pan Xianchen: “…”
Okay. Now I know why Wen Yu looked at him like he was a moron, a liar, and a pervert.
"Then please get me a room next to hers," said Pan Xianchen.
He reentered Wen Yu's room, where she was leaning against the bed, checking her phone. Pan Xianchen sat down beside her bed, her left hand casually resting on the bed. He hooked his finger against hers and said, "Can't you take me in tonight?"
Wen Yu pursed her lips and said, "How can I take you in? There's only one bed in the room."
"I'll sleep on the left and you'll sleep on the right?" Pan Xianchen tested.
"Why didn't you say you slept on the sofa?" Wen Yu said speechlessly.
Pan Xianchen glanced back. The sofa was placed by the window and was short and narrow. He argued reasonably, "The sofa is too small. Do you think I can lie down on it?"
"Then you lie on the floor."
"You want me to sleep in the same bed with a dog?" Pan Xianchen glared exaggeratedly.
Wen Yu rolled her eyes at him and said, "Weren't you calling me son and son affectionately just now? Now you're calling me dog and dog and being disgusted?"
“…”
Pan Xianchen pursed his lips and fell silent. After a moment, he revealed his aggrieved expression again and looked at Wen Yu and said, "Wen Yu, if you don't agree, I won't touch you. What's the point of forcing myself? I want you to be willing."
Wen Yu sighed and said, "...Okay."
She got off the bed and pulled Pan Xianchen to his feet. She turned Pan Xianchen around, Wen Yu's hand on his back as they walked. Pan Xianchen turned back, unsure of what she was going to do. In the blink of an eye, Wen Yu had pushed him toward the door.
"Don't stay here with me, it's very late. I just heard you talking to Boss Huo. Don't you live next door to me? Go take a shower and go to bed!"
With a bang.
Pan Xianchen was locked outside the door.
