Chapter 89 The End of the Story (4) “Welcome back, brother. …

"…What's wrong with your eyes?"

Chen Que stared at the person in front of him with some surprise. To be more precise, it was Bo Bei's eyes that had returned to their original black color. His friend's irises were still that exceptionally deep black. He was unusually curious. "What about the hair? Can it return to its original length?"

"It's no big deal." Bai Bei raised his hand and touched his slightly longer hair. He waved it away disapprovingly. "But I feel like it doesn't matter if it's shorter or longer. I don't care."

Chen Que's focus clearly shifted to another point following Bai Bei's words: "So I don't have to get my hair cut anymore? That's so convenient, right?!"

Bai Bei was helpless: "Should you care about this now?"

He didn't expect that when he saw Chen Que again, the other party's focus would be on his eyes.

The time goes back to forty minutes ago.

Fei Yu returned to the world of ghost stories with the Abnormal Monitoring Bureau. He did not leave immediately, but went to the location of the game hall, the area outside where the ghost stories were.

The hall is more like a core location. As the center, outside its edge are other areas of strange stories, one after another. No matter how broad the scope is, it is always clearly limited.

Such a core position is very suitable for changing the overall rules of the ghost story game.

The closed game hall was unusually empty. The main system stood beside him, seemingly unsurprised by Fei Yu's arrival. "You want to change the rules here?"

Fei Yu didn't say anything, and his tacit agreement was tantamount to affirmation. Shadows spread out under his feet, seeping into every corner, crossing the established framework, trying to change the original rules here.

Replace that kind of death ending with a memory clearing. Failure in the copy will force you to exit the game, but you will not die. Instead, you will forget all your experiences here.

Fei Yu originally thought that the main system would stop him, but from beginning to end, this guy was quite calm. Probably as long as it didn't involve fundamental aspects, such as changing the way the ghost story game was run, it basically wouldn't care.

After returning to reality, Bo Bei changed his eyes back to their original black color. He confessed to Shen Que what he had done and told him that the ghost story game would be reopened in a few days.

Shen Que was a little surprised to hear this. A ghost story game without death should have been almost impossible to achieve, but after all, the consciousness of the world now is Bai Bei, so nothing is unbelievable.

"So, the matter was resolved smoothly?" Shen Que couldn't be completely sure. He just felt that Bai Bei seemed to have returned to his usual state of not wanting to meddle in other people's affairs. If that was the case, there shouldn't be any other problems. "Are you planning to come back?"

Bo Bei stood in front of the window, fiddling with his slightly longer hair that was almost reaching his shoulders. Through the reflection, he adjusted his hair back to its original length. "I'm not sure. After all, things aren't completely over yet."

"I just came back to explain the situation to you. I have to go to the Operations Department's headquarters later. I need to stay in that world for a few more days until I'm sure the barrier is absolutely solid, so it will take some time to finish."

Bai Bei seemed to have really just come to explain the current situation. After he finished speaking, he did not leave any extra room for thinking for the person in front of him. When Shen Que came to his senses, his figure had already disappeared from the spot.

Bai Bei went to the Operations Department to find Xie Jianshan.

The floor of the building covered by the Abnormal Monitoring Bureau had long since returned to its original state, and the Operations Department certainly noticed this. Xie Jianshan realized that it was Bai Bei who brought people back to the world of ghost stories. He intuitively felt that he would come to find him, so he simply waited at the base.

As long as the building disappeared, the abnormal movement of the detector subsided. No more unknown strange stories came endlessly. Xie Jianshan thought absentmindedly that Bai Bei still kept his promise as always.

"If nothing unexpected happens, the fusion has been completely completed. I will ensure that there will be no new strange stories." Bai Bei said, and there was no need to say more. Xie Jianshan naturally knew what he wanted to express specifically.

After a brief silence, Xie Jianshan avoided the question of fusion. He had no reason to ask how Bai Bei had done it. He simply turned to another topic: "Will the ghost story game be reopened?"

And Bai Bei nodded.

Xie Jianshan seemed to understand the real meaning of Bai Bei coming to him. It was not only because of this matter, but also because of the ghost story game. The cessation of ghost stories did not mean the end of everything. The ghost story game that had given them a headache before still existed.

"...The higher-ups probably won't disband the operations department immediately. After all, no one can guarantee that those ghost stories won't happen again. During this period of time, it's very likely that our focus will shift from those ghost stories to games." Xie Jianshan said.

He thought for a moment, observing Bai Bei's demeanor. Although the man's expression remained calm, Xie Jianshan could still see a hint of eagerness to transfer responsibility, so he tentatively said, "We will intervene in the game."

"Of course." Bai Bei replied in a light tone, but the smile on the corner of his mouth was almost impossible to suppress. The big producer who had handled the fusion incident and was temporarily on leave was ready to smoothly go on vacation again.

Although as a conscious being in the world of ghost stories, the relationship between Yugi and him has also become closer, but Bai Bei doesn't intend to interfere too much. He said lazily: "Then I'll leave it to you. I'll bring in the people from the Operations Department when the time comes."

"In a while, I will give you management rights to a similar copy system." Bai Bei added.

Xie Jianshan hadn't expected Bai Bei to do this. He had no idea that he would exist as a consciousness in the world of ghost stories, so he was a little surprised. "You can assign us permissions? Isn't that something that only the game system can do?"

"The boss has been replaced, and now I am responsible for all matters in the world of ghost stories." Bai Bei summarized most of the content in just a few words, so much so that Xie Jianshan, who suddenly received the information, had a brain short circuit for a moment.

Xie Jianshan was very surprised after he realized what was happening: "You are now the consciousness of that world? But how could it be..."

"Nothing is impossible." Bai Bei accepted this well. After all, he wasn't affected that much. "Besides, I can't make the consciousness disappear directly. If I don't replace it, the advent may happen again."

Xie Jianshan hesitated and asked, "Are you okay? The connection between subjective consciousness and domain is very close, not to mention the world-wide level. You won't be implicated?"

Bai Bei waved his hand nonchalantly, looking unconcerned. Xie Jianshan knew it was probably nothing to him, so he felt relieved. He only thanked him solemnly on behalf of the Operations Department at the end: "Thank you very much for what you have done."

Bai Bei didn't have any thoughts. If he really thought about it, it was all because of Shi Yu. So he said half-jokingly, half-seriously, "With the connections in the Operations Department, I'll be satisfied only if I can help Shi Yu later."

Xie Jianshan agreed.

After Bai Bei finished talking to someone, he returned to the world of ghost stories. He stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. The exterior of the surveillance bureau building was still desolate and miserable. He turned his eyes away, and countless images related to ghost story games gradually appeared on the surface of the glass.

The sound of approaching footsteps became clearer, and the young man walked up to him. Because of the candy in his mouth, his pronunciation was a little unclear: "Are you thinking about the game?"

Bai Bei shook his head, his fingertips touching the cold glass, observing everything here as he had done before, "No, I just remembered some things from the past."

It was a memory from a long time ago, too distant to seem very real, and also chaotic and disorganized. In fragments of the past, Bai Bei saw himself sitting on a dead tree, gazing into the distance, or sometimes wandering aimlessly in the boundless night wilderness.

Boring, dull and monotonous, these were the only feelings Bai Bei had in the past.

In the world of ghost stories, even the changing seasons did not exist. When Bo Bei first came to reality, everything was fresh and new to him.

"Completely different from now." Bai Bei's words were particularly confusing, but the system knew what he meant. He was referring to the past and the completely different present. It sounded like he really preferred the settled present and future.

The system smiled and said, "It will be like this in the future."

Bai Bei lowered his eyes and whispered, "I hope it's just like you said."

He stayed in the surveillance bureau for the next period of time, but in fact, he basically stayed in the lobby of the ghost story game. He used some additional permissions to prevent the players from seeing him and the main system standing next to him.

Occasionally he would use Fei Yu's identity to check on Shen Que's progress, but most of the time, he was just observing, sensing whether there were any signs of those strange stories coming again.

He needed to make sure the barrier didn't break again.

After a few days of observation, Bai Bei was sure that no more accidents would happen, but he couldn't say anything too absolutely. If he returned to the world of ghost stories in the future, he would definitely have to check the integrity of the barrier from time to time.

"There shouldn't be any major problems here. I'm going to go back first." Bai Bei said a few words to the main system before leaving. He turned his head and said, "I will open up permissions to some people in the Operations Department in a while. It will be easier for you."

The main system just nodded to show that it understood.

After saying that, Bai Bei took a few steps forward and grabbed the collar of his system, which was about to run away without knowing where. The restless young man was much shorter than him, so he could easily pick it up like a kitten.

"Stop playing. You're not a player. Do you still want to go into the dungeon and have a look?" Bai Bei said helplessly.

Bai Bei reminded it: "Let's go, back to reality."

The system curled its lips: "Okay."

The young man's figure quickly disappeared from his side, and Bai Bei left here soon after. The people passing by disappeared, and when he raised his eyes again, the surrounding scene had turned into a familiar corridor.

Bai Bei walked towards the familiar door. His steady steps were unusually urgent, as if he and the person waiting for him were both looking forward to it so much that they could no longer tolerate the separation.

He raised his hand and knocked on the door. Footsteps sounded almost the next second, and the door in front of him was pushed open. Bai Bei looked at the young man, but lost his voice for a moment.

Shi Yu's eyes were a little red, but he still smiled and said, "Welcome back, brother."

The author has something to say: The main text is finished, my dears!

Thank you to everyone who read this! I know there are still many shortcomings in the plot that need to be improved, and I will try my best to write better in the next book!

Next up is the extra chapter! I've already decided what to write [kiss]

I'll start by writing about the heartwarming little moments after everything is over! Then there's the forum post, featuring Fei's reactions after he cleared the game!

Next I want to write two more if-line-type extra chapters. Currently I want to write:

1. Let's see how the older brother version of Xiaoyu, who is in a different age group, raises the teenage Bobei, a less serious and extremely doting guardian, and the reliable young adult Xiaobei (just this cool and cute face)

2. There is no sequel to Xiaoyu, after Hunxie Zhongli Ge enters the game.

In addition, I am considering whether to write some fragmentary descriptions about my brother in idol paro and comic content (including reader reactions and barrage). I have some ideas but I don’t feel comfortable writing them. I’m still thinking about it. If I write them, I will put them in the welfare extra!

Here comes the delicious little extra [hahaha] [hahaha]
