In the first class of the new semester, Felix felt the restlessness in the hearts of the little wizards. They were all waiting to go to the courtyard to see the basilisk after class.
He cleared his throat, and after attracting the attention of the little wizards, he gently waved his wand, "The dragon came out of the cave." Accompanied by a cloud of black air, a small snake surrounded by black spots fell on the desk.
It made a "hissing" sound, and its slender body kept twisting.
The little wizards raised their heads and stretched their necks to see it clearly.
Felix's wand passed along its scales, and the appearance of the black-spotted snake immediately changed drastically - its smooth scales became thick and solid, giving people a metallic texture; its color also became green and radiant, with the unique bright light of venomous snakes.
Even its body swelled a lot, it raised its flat snake head, and a pair of yellow eyes looked cold and ferocious.
"Professor, is this... a basilisk?" a student asked.
"That's right."
"So, Potter and the others defeated this little guy?"
The little wizards in the audience said with some disappointment. This was too small, only about three or four feet.
Especially when the little basilisk huddled on the podium, it looked even more inconspicuous.
Many little wizards suddenly had the illusion that they could do it.
However, the basilisk looked very intimidating, especially the pair of yellow eyes, which were really creepy.
Felix did not comment on their attitude and continued to explain: "The biggest threat of the basilisk lies in its eyes. They are extremely lethal. In other words, when you see it, you may have lost the ability to fight back forever."
The discussion in the audience became much quieter.
"And--"
He waved his wand, and the little basilisk huddled on the podium suddenly jumped up from the table, scaring the little wizards in the front row to lean back.
When it drew an arc in the air and landed exactly in the center of the classroom, the body of the little basilisk suddenly expanded rapidly.
It enlarged more than ten times in an instant, and before they could react, it filled most of the classroom space.
"Ahhh!" Many little wizards screamed and hurriedly dodged the huge basilisk that was pressing down, but soon they found that the basilisk's body had changed from a solid body to a black mist.
A little wizard sitting on the ground mustered up the courage to reach out and touch it, and his hand went straight through the black mist. He looked up and saw that half of the bodies of many people were in the black mist, and they were moving out in fear.
Felix said with a sense of evil, "Well, this is the original size of the basilisk."
After a while, the little wizards found that this thing did not hurt them at all, so they calmed down.
Several students got up from the ground embarrassedly. One of them, a little witch named Campbell King, used her magic wand to stir the body of the black mist basilisk, and turned the scales near her into a ball of black mist again.
Many little wizards imitated curiously, and in the process, the black mist basilisk kept wandering and twisting its body in the small classroom, and the huge snake body passed through the tables, chairs, books, men and women.
But most of the little wizards were no longer afraid. They poked it with their wands with great interest. Sparks of various colors flashed in the shadowy black mist from time to time.
After a few minutes, the basilisk shrank back to about three or four feet, and its body changed from black mist back to a green entity.
"Professor, is this what the basilisk in the chamber of secrets really looks like?" A little wizard asked in awe.
"You can understand it this way." Felix conjured up a chair and sat on it himself. "Since you are curious about the basilisk, let it teach you today."
The little wizards looked at each other in confusion, but at this moment, a voice very similar to Professor Hep came out of the mouth of the basilisk.
"Now open the book to page 79. We will study an excerpt from a manuscript translated by Carlisle Matthew, an expert on ancient magic, in 1842. This manuscript is from about seven hundred years ago."
Many young wizards were startled, but with their previous experiences, they did not fall off their seats again. Instead, they stared with their big eyes at the little basilisk in front of the podium with its upper body raised high.
They blinked in confusion, and then looked at Professor Hepp who was sitting safely in the corner of the podium, with countless complicated thoughts surging in their hearts.
The little basilisk opened its mouth, revealing thin, dagger-like teeth, "Yes, it's me, your professor of ancient magic. So, what are you waiting for?" The basilisk suddenly approached the little wizard in the front row, scaring her so much that she dropped her quill.
"Campbell, tell me, what did I just say?"
"Professor, you just said the rune Eoh, which means yew tree, symbolizing death and rebirth, and can also mean continuity and maintenance." The little witch named Campbell King stood up and stammered.
"Well said, Ravenclaw plus ten points." The basilisk said with a tongue sticking out.
Campbell sat down with a long sigh and patted his chest.
"So, why don't you write it down?"
The other little wizards began to write furiously.
In the remaining classes, the little wizards gradually accepted this somewhat weird "snake professor". This snake professor kept wandering in the aisles on both sides, and from time to time he came up to the inattentive little wizards, staring at a pair of yellow eyes and said loudly, "Don't look at me, read books!"
And Professor Hep, who was sitting in the corner, had a smiling expression on his face from beginning to end, and he seemed very happy.
When the class was about to end, Felix stood up, waved his wand, and in the reluctant expressions of the little wizards, their snake professor turned back into black mist.
"Today's homework is to retell the contents of this manuscript. The requirement is a piece of parchment, and you must use the knowledge learned in grades three and four."
As soon as the bell rang, the corridor was filled with the sound of "crackling" footsteps and noise - these little wizards couldn't wait to rush out and headed straight for the courtyard. In the fifth-grade ancient magic classroom, the little wizards packed up their things in a trance and walked out of the classroom slowly.
"Hey! Campbell, hurry up, let's go see the basilisk together!" Her friend stopped her and said happily, "I've been looking forward to this in the last Transfiguration class."
Campbell said calmly, "You go first."
"What about you?"
"I suddenly lost interest in the basilisk." Campbell said.
The little wizards who walked out of the ancient magic classroom with her also nodded in agreement. Not only did they spend a class with the basilisk, but they were also taught by it to learn ancient magic.
...
In the courtyard, many little wizards had already gathered together, and they were huddled together, shadowy.
In the middle of the little wizards was a huge basilisk that was forty feet long. Its body was as thick as the trunk of an oak tree, and its scales were as big as a palm, looking very rough, and glowing with a cold green light.
