Let me talk to you about this book.
From April 6 last year to June 5 yesterday, I wrote almost a year and two months, with a total of 2.35 million words, which is much higher than my own estimate (expectation) of 2 to 2.2 million words. If we count the extra chapters that I haven't started writing yet, the number of words will be even higher.
Qidian can't show comments these days, but the author can see them from the backend. I just flipped through everyone's comments, and I will first answer a few questions that you may be more concerned about: Why does the story stop here? How is the emotional drama arranged (yes, there is one again)? And there are extra chapters?
In fact, the story does not stop, but the main text ends here. My personal understanding is that the main text is continuous in time and the plot is coherent, and the extra chapters can jump out of time and pick some representative and meaningful things to write about.
The latest few chapters are the climax of the whole book. What follows is nothing more than the daily life after returning to peace, the political intrigues, and the details of the establishment of a new order. As for the substantial changes brought about by the integration of the magic world and the non-magic world, it will take time to ferment. If we move forward step by step according to the timeline, it is not impossible to write, but it will slow down the overall rhythm of the story, and make it long and boring. "Boring" is what I have always tried my best to avoid. Even the daily plots, I try to make them interesting. I put a lot of thought into it, and these daily plots have clear purposes, such as showing what the protagonist does from another perspective, laying foreshadowing, showing the charm of the characters and the magic of magic...
At the end of writing the book, I am the one who wants to write a good ending for the story the most, ending it at the climax, leaving a lingering aftertaste, and at the same time putting the content that cannot be written into the main text in the extra chapter, filling in the foreshadowing if possible, some will be glossed over, and some will be described in detail. The
second and third questions can be put together. Regarding the emotional drama, after thinking it over and over again, I finally decided to put it in a separate extra chapter, so that readers who don't like it can skip it. The plot time is temporarily set five years after the end of the main text (2003). This time point has a special meaning, and it describes the beginning of the budding of the two people's feelings. In
fact, it is a bit similar to the last part of the original work, "Epilogue Nineteen Years Later". This is compared with the whole set of interrelated extra chapters that follow.
There may be more than a dozen extra chapters that describe the future appearance of the magic world. My current idea is to learn from the POV writing method of Game of Thrones, that is, each chapter uses a different name as the title and the main narrative perspective, showing the various changes in the future magic world from his current situation, social relations, and what he is doing. He will also intersect with other people, so that the perspectives are constantly changing, and finally choose the right occasion to bring these people together.
The above is the consideration of the extra chapter. If nothing unexpected happens, one chapter of the extra chapter will be updated every day starting from June 11 (next Saturday). The five days left in the middle are the margin left by the author for himself to rest, conceive the plot, and deal with things that have accumulated for a long time.
Okay, now that the business is over, let's talk about my thoughts.
First of all, I would like to thank the new alliance leaders of this book, Eu Ru, Chen Yi Sain, Hei Meng You, and Mus, and thank you all for your strong support. In total, there are 19 alliance leaders in this book, including two silver alliances. I looked at it and found that this book has accumulated 200,000 collections, 300,000 recommendation votes, and 10,000 monthly votes (I think it is far more than that, but I can't find the specific number). It has been recommended by the big fans, has been subscribed to 10,000, and has become a glorious one-star work. During the serialization period, it often appeared on the first page of the classification list...
It is no exaggeration to say that this is a miracle for me.
On the day of uploading the first chapter, I made a pessimistic prediction (based on past experience) that this book would most likely die. I published the book with passion, but no one was interested in it. I played it alone. When the word count was enough, I applied for a contract but was rejected. Then there were all kinds of trivial things pressing down, and finally it was left unfinished. From college to a few years after graduation, I wrote six or seven beginnings one after another, and I am very familiar with this process. But there is no way, I can't control my enthusiasm. Now I can have such excellent results, which is inseparable from your support. Thank you very much!
I love you! ! !
Well, let me talk about my mental journey of writing.
This book was difficult to write, and it became more and more difficult as time went on. However, the difficulty lies in how to present the story better, rather than causing psychological fatigue due to continuous writing. From the beginning to the end, I really liked this story, loved this story, and devoted countless efforts to it.
I believe that no matter who you are, after devoting thousands of hours to a thing, you all hope that this thing can end perfectly and give the people in the story a good ending.
I posted a post on April 26 last year, which mentioned three key words about the writing style of this book: reasonable, original style, and foreshadowing. At that time, I had been writing the book for less than a month, mainly based on my intuition that this was the best way to write it. I didn't expect how many challenges it would bring me later. Of course, after more than 700 chapters, I did try my best to work towards these goals, and I felt that I did not violate the original intention of publishing the book at the beginning to write a magic story that was as authentic as possible.
In order to achieve this goal, I set limits for myself in the writing process, such as trying not to add new characters, but to explore the charm and more possibilities of the original characters; not opening duplicates casually, and the content written can be traced in the original book and reference materials; the perspective is mainly focused on the school and students; respect the original work; pursue the rationality of logic... and there are also foreshadowing.
Some foreshadowings are flashes of inspiration when I am writing, and I think they may be used, so I just mention them casually, usually hidden in the dialogue or in a detail; others are events themselves that need time to ferment and turn. The one that impressed me most was Hermione's SPE, from her proposing this idea, to Harry and Ron's reactions, Felix's guidance, writing papers, talking with the kitchen elves, comparing the treatment of the Ilvermorny goblins, establishing the ideal of becoming the Minister of Magic, and finally the Pan-Magic Alliance. There were many chapters in the middle, and I didn't have a comprehensive idea at the beginning, but I found that I could integrate them together while writing.
The consequence of paying attention to details and foreshadowing is that the more you get to the middle and late stages of the book, the longer you spend thinking about the plot, which is much more than the time you spend typing. This is actually my deepest feeling after writing a complete story. The chapters that readers see are the result of the author's repeated weighing and thinking. They are the most appropriate and most reliable (not necessarily the best) ones selected from countless plot development directions. This is more obvious in the seventh grade plot. In order not to fall into various moral dilemmas, the author racked his brains and denied many assumptions.
The role of the above restrictions may not be completely positive, but at least it helped me write smoothly to the end, without breaking down or deviating from the topic. I am very satisfied with such a result, not to mention that it can also help subsequent writing by summarizing gains and losses.
Then what should I write in the new book? Well, I haven't thought about this question yet, and I plan to think about it seriously during the time I write the sequel.
Finally, I would like to thank every reader for their support and companionship. Thank you for your subscriptions, rewards, comments, monthly tickets, recommendation tickets, and Easter egg chapters... and for the footprints and emotions you have left on this book. I would also like to thank my three editors Xiaoyuan, Otter, Good Luck, and Editor-in-Chief Green Bean for their attention and support for this book. Thank you to the operation officer Lazy Fat Cancer for his dedication all the time. Thank you to the management of the book club for maintaining the order of the group under my long-term diving. Thank you to all the fan and painting masters for enriching the connotation and extension of this book. Thank you to the original author Rowling for providing a good story. I learned a lot of my writing skills from here...
It's almost over here. When the editor goes to work tomorrow, I will ask about the investment in this book. I remember seeing it in a group. It seems that the last step requires the author to click to finish the book. Then we will see you on June 11! The time is just right. The author is going to drink beer and eat skewers!
